Hi I got one in marks recently biased on this review, i just noticed while cleaning the wheels that the centre axels float, I used to own 201 and never noticed 😂 have they always been like that 🤔
Hi Ciaran, all the MM 201s are like this so nothing to worry about. I believe it's an enhancement to improve the performance of the three axle configuration where you always want the wheels on the outer axles to be glued to the track. A floating middle axle facilitates this. The only real disadvantage is you need to take a little extra care to ensure the centre axle is mounted on the track correctly when placing the loco.
Hi, I got my MK4s from arxmodels on eBay. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IRISH-REPAINT-MK4s-HORNBY-2-0FF-ENTERPRISE-LIVERY/184366301716?hash=item2aed168214:g:7M0AAOSwA75fEHkH
All sold out from the retail channels I'm afraid so it's down to auction sites and pre-owned offerings now which means the prices can be crazy. Murphy Models are due to bring out a new batch of 201s this year though not in this livery. See www.murphymodels.com/. Hard to believe Hattons were still selling these for £129 around the time I did this review.
@@Dams2016RBLX While the website indicates 1H22, I'd be surprised if this is the case given all the challenges of the last year. Expect 2H or even early 2023. I'll definitely be reviewing as soon as they are available.
Hi Ronan, if it was any other loco I might say better to get it fitted for you but the Class 201s from MM have such easy access to the DCC socket via a removable panel on the roof I would say give a go yourself. Just be careful not to stress the sidewalls of the opening when levering out the dummy connector before inserting your decoder. You need a 6 channel decoder to control all of the lights. If you purchase either the MM DCC or DCC Sound offerings you're covered. If purchasing a 3rd party decoder, make sure it has six channels. A four channel will give you the directional and headlights. The last 2 channels are needed for the forward and reverse cab lights.
I think I might have to get this one for Christmas. Nice model and great review mate.

Is it better value to buy this dcc fitted or to fit it myself? Never fitted a loco before. Thanks Ronan
