    Back when I was a teen in the late 80's everyone liked the notchback 5.0

      @jacobeldredge803 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've always like the hatch better aesthetically, but I know the notch is better performance wise.

    A Mustang LX of this generation with the 5.0 V8 is arguably the closest thing in concept to the original 1964 1/2 Mustang. A modest car with decent get up and go but not the tire-shredding fire-breathing insanity like some of the muscle cars of today.

    • @bldontmatter5319
      @bldontmatter5319 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shredding tires is wasted power don't forget it. The 392 challenger just wastes gas and tires but is slower than most i6 and more modest v8s

    For those that don't know, the steering wheel on this Mustang is from the Ford parts bin. It was used in A LOT of Ford's from the late 80's to the mid 90's. Some examples of Ford's having this steering wheel include: Ford Crown Victoria/Mercury Grand Marquis/Lincoln Town Car, Ford LTD Crown Victoria, Ford E-Series made until 1996, '92-'96 F-Series trucks (including the Lightning), Ford Aerostar and Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable just to name a few

    In 1987 I drove a friend’s ‘85 GT. Stiffest clutch I’ve every experienced. In 1988 I took a spin around a parking lot in a friend’s new LX 5.0 5 spd. hatchback. Much more civilized. It was new, not mine and way more powerful than anything I had driven so I was careful with it, but what a joy to drive.

    My upstate NY high school parking lot was filled with these Cool Beasts back in the mid-late 80's!! Lxs Gts, Z28s, Iroc's..I was Lucky enough to have buddies with manual versions that loved to thrash them,Lol!! First few years of college in the early 90s, the new Cool teen "affordable" more nimble, fuel efficient 4cyl turbos & vtecs.. started hitting the streets!! (Talons, eclipses, integras..) Great Times to witness as a lifetime car guy here🙏

    I miss my 1992 LX 5.0 Hatchback, Red. Not the fastest of my 7 Mustangs (GT's and Cobras), but the one I miss for nostalgic reasons. I was young, relatively poor, and a tad wild. Such great memories.

  • @lamarw9901
    @lamarw9901 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good friend had a LX, I was Chevy guy with a 4th Gen Z28. Many fun memories in both.
    Cup holders back then were plastic hangers that hooked to the door bought from K Mart or they were wedged between the ebrake/consol and the seat.

    Really enjoying all these old car reviews! you have done many of the cars I grew up driving: the early rx7's and the rx7 turboII , the mk2 supra ect.... one car I Wish you would give a thorough ,old time review is the 1993-1997 probe gt 5 spd..
    These have an almost cultlike following among their owners with many being modded to the hilt,engine swaps to the KLZE higher performance one... What I want to see though is an original spec, Unmodded 5 spd probe gt....these are Tough to find anymore! some other reviewers have done reviews on modded ones or ones with an auto and then ragged on the car... try the v6 manual, stock and see what you think..the 93-94's were the meanest and stiffest sprung ones with the least emmissions...ps: I've been driving an all stock 94 pgt for the last 29yrs as a daily..

    Fox body notchbacks are classics for a reason. The 5.0 is legendary. For the time, it was plenty fast.
    I don't know if I could bring myself to drive the car of someone who was killed on 9/11. I know it's just a car but that's just me. Glad to see the owner is honoring his friend and keeping the car in excellent condition.

    I have a soft spot for a Fox body Mustang, the first car I drove was an 83 with the 3.8L V6 with an automatic. My preference is for the styling of the hatchback.

    I havent experienced that "Boxing Match" with the shifter in the 91 LX but maybe it's because it knew not to fight me after I'd already won a fight with the shifter in an '86 Suzuki Samurai!

    I feel like everyone loves this Mustang now. But seriously, this was from when I was 9 and it was the coolest car I could think of. I always loved these more than Camaro's and would take a Fox Body over one without hesitation.

    The LX 5.0 was faster than the GT 5.0 of the same year due to lower curb weight. The hatchback LX 5.0 was also slower than the notchback LX 5.0 also due to curb weight. So this Mustang 5.0 was the fastest for this year.

    i have the exact same car that i bought new in 91 same color except mine has black interior and its a 5 speed and i never had to fight with my clutch and shifter to change gears .....so i didnt undertsant what you were trying to say about that subject .even power shifing at 6k rpm .back in 91 those who drove a 5 liter lx didnt care about little sippy cups or big tumblers we drove the car like its supposed to be driven ......and were not modern pussies looking for cup holders and blue tooth etc ...now i will go out and take my 91 lx for a run ...its got all original parts interior and glass and has original paint and 50k miles .....and never seen rain or snow just nice sunny days of cruzing the streets and highways and some midnight street racing and many track days running the 1/4 mile ....i like your video but not the part that a lx notchback needs a cup holder .....those who drive a 5.o lx dont care about sippy cups we are a special breed of people .....where can i send you a photo of my car

      All I needed was 3 pedals and a cigarette lighter

      @@bldontmatter5319 yup. My driving school advertised that they use red Mustangs and that's what you got. Interestingly, they were notchbacks. The first car I owned, an 89 Dodge Aries K sedan, was probably faster!

    Well, to be honest than gen Mustang lasted way too long with no serious suspension updates for a stock car. Ford had the perfect MN12 platform by 1990, still they used it for luxury coupes only.

    The stock clutch in these cars are not heavy or hard to use. Swapping out the OEM shifter with a short throw will remedy the shifting issue. Many many aftermarket shifters to choose from. When these cars were popular, mid 80’s thru mid 90’s the hatchback GT was the car to have and the most desirable. The notchback was used mostly by the drag racing scene. Yes now a days the notch is the most desirable but I do believe the GT will be close to it very soon.
