    I’m working on a load with my 22” Ruger American 450BM
    300 XTP Mag
    Lil Gun and H110
    Starling Brass
    CCI 450
    Hoping to hit 2200fps, will update with results once temps get out of the 90s

    Make sure bullets are not moving in clip.

    Lot of room to use a longer bullet

    Try different bullets from a different company

      At the time these videos were made there honestly wasn’t very many options for this rifle. Just a lot of 45 colt type bullets that wouldn’t withstand the velocities. Now there is all kind of different options.

    I have the same gun and I think the over all case length could be a 1/4 inch longer more like a 45-70

    With .450 Bushmaster taper crimp only. Headspace is on the cartridge mouth. Do not roll crimp
    .

      Ermine Alox most of the time I don't crimp at all only crimp with h110

      I shoot a lot, but new reloader. I’m working on reloading this bullet for my .450 hoping for something that dumps a little more energy on target. I’ve killed several deer with the 250 gr ftx, but they seem to zip right through them. This crimp issue, my Hornady die set will do a taper crimp verse roll?

    I love this caliber so much I went out and bought a Savage to compliment the .450 Ruger. Both guns shoot like lasers
    This caliber is a cast bullet shooters dream come true. Waiting for a lever action. Marlin or Henry?..

    I shot a 200 pound boar hog with 50 grain Hornady FTX the damage was devastating I was very impressed

    P.S. Just a observation not a judgment. FYI the only animals I ever had run anywhere where the ones that were shot with bullets that held together to well. I didn't lose them but had to retreive them out of the bottom of a canyon , that I would'mnt have if they would have been my normal soft point bullets.

    I got those 240 xtp mags shooting a super tight group in my 22 inch Ruger American!!!
    I weighed the bullets individually (240.0 g), used 37.5 grains of Lil Gun, C.O.L. 2.06, CCI450 primers, Winchester Brass.
    avg. speed 2375 fps

    I have not loaded the bullets that you used in this video. I am loading Hornady 250 Gr FTX with 37.0 grains LiL’Gun . Out of my AR platform this load is a tack driver for me. I recently purchased the Ruger American.450 bolt action with a 22” barrel. I mounted a Burris .450 caliber specific scope on it. I have not sighted it in yet. I will start with factory ammo, Hornady Black 250 gr FTX and then see how my reloads perform. I heard you mention the issue with the magazine so I compared both my AR and Ruger mags. Sure enough my Ruger mag does have excessive gap at the front of the bullet to the mag. But my AR mag does not.

    I appreciate your approach. Thanks for posting. I’m using factory Hornady custom 250 gr FTX, but would like to hand load soon. Looking at options. 👍🏼

    Thanks for another video, more good information. How would accuracy possibly be affected by not seating bullets as deep to fix the magazine/feeding issue? Looking forward to the next one.

    • @Rushshooting67913
      @Rushshooting67913  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      David Fairchild accuracy could actually increase because the bullet would be closer to the rifling lands. Now this was just a test run so I didn't know the problem would occur. But I might try lengthening them to see what accuracy would be like. There is honestly just so much to try and not enough time and money. It's a very interesting cartridge.

      There definitely are a lot of variables that are basically unknown because of the bolt action platform. I’m still looking for the 275 grain Barnes TSX, I think the heavier bullets may do well due to length and being more stable.

    I have a 450 but it’s a Remington. Any goods or bads about the Remington? I don’t see a lot of reviews about it. All the reviews are the ruger.

    I don't understand ya'll and your worring about bullet seperation. looks like a great bullet to me. The first deer you shoot I am betting will fal straight to the ground. If the bullet passes through flesh what differance does it make. I have whatched several people shoot those through gelaten and the passed through two 18 inch blocks of it. I say worry if you have trouble with the animal running off and no recovery.

    Nosler should bring back their 260 grain partition bullet in .452 caliber for this cartridge! I still have some loaded .454 Casull cartridges loaded with them and they are SUPER PERFORMERS! Apparently however, there was not enough interest in such a specialized handgun bullet... I wish that I would have bought hundreds of them in both .45 and .44 caliber back in the day!
    You might want to give the 275 grain Barnes bullets a try in this caliber! Just a thought... Where I plan on using mine, there is is a good chance of running into one of the "problem" grizzly bears that have been being brought down here that "we" aren't supposed to know about (Washington) so, I want my rifle shooting some good bear loads. Another bullet that you might want to consider is one of the gas checked hard cast bullets from Montana Bullet Works outside of Missoula! I've been using their 335 grain hard cast gas check in my RSBH .454 Casull with H110 and getting some very accurate and very hard hitting, flat shooting performance with those! I may be testing them in the .450 Bushmaster Cartridge as well... Velocity isn't everything where big, hard cast monolithic bullets are concerned! I enjoy your videos!
    Before I forget, in the #10 Speer reloading manual, you will find an article written by the late and beloved, Mr. Jack O'Connor and his thoughts on "rifle pressures" and the real world facts concerning them! I read that article because I have the manual, many years ago and have always brought my hand loads to what a "particular" rifle or handgun "told me" it would accept as pressures that are right at the top end of where it wants to be! Never had an issue, but then, I don't worry about case life when I'm looking for high ballistic performance and accuracy in one package. Keep up the good work!

    I've loaded the 250gn XTPs with 34gn of h110, I havent shot through a chrono yet but I've had great results with my 450. Finally got a hold of some lil gun so I'll have to play around with that soon.

    you are shooting pistol bullets out of a rifle . they will come apart a the higher velocity. the lead part will be lethal because it is still heavy and the size of a nickel. remember there have been thousands of deer killed with a .22 lr

    • @Rushshooting67913
      @Rushshooting67913  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are the xtp mag bullets with a heavier jacket. The same bullets that they use in the 460 s&w and 454 casull at close to the same velocities. The only bullets that loose their jackets are the 225 ftx bullets designed for 45 Colt. All the rest hold together with no jacket seperation at all.

    So the bypod you have on your 450. Is it easy to put on and take off? I have mine to deer hunt in Iowa with and I would prob wanna take it off to hunt with it. Or should I just leave it on?

    Have you used hornady 250 grain xtp hollow points for 450 bushmaster yet? I've loaded some but haven't had a chance to test them yet.

    • @Rushshooting67913
      @Rushshooting67913  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I haven't they aren't recommended for high velocities. The 240 and 300 xtp mag bullets hold up. The 250s will hold up just not sure what kind of velocities that's for. The 250s are for the 45 Colt if I'm not mistaken. Maybe just try them a lot the low end and see what they do

    I'm happy I found this channel! 450 Bushmaster is new for me. I have been reloading a few years with lots of the 240g xtp Magnum bullets on hand. I shoot it out of 10.5" AR15. I have been looking for reloading data. Thank you!

      I got a video on here where I tried titegroup powder. Very light average velocities were between 1550 and 1650. It would have to be for a bolt gun though.

    I wonder how much of an effect if any the CCI 450 would have compared to the 400s. Just thinking it might burn up a little more of that extra powder you’re talking about with some loads

      I use cci 450 primmers i was having hangfire issues with imr 4227 they seem fine and burn all the power compleatly even at 41 gr charge useing a 224 cast bullet powercoated

      Seth Lantz at 40 and 41 the gun doesn't have the huge fireball coming out the sides. I'm not seeing any unburnt powder in the barrel or case it's just the flames shooting out the sides. I recently purchased some rem 7 1/2 benchrest primers which are a hotter primer so we will see how those do. I'm gonna purchase some of those 450s soon to to try

      I switched to the 450, cause my earlier loads were hang firing bad. my charge is 250 FTC, 450 primer, 33 LIL gun.
