    Drill pilot holes about 1.5mm smaller than screw size and use a countersink drill bit then screw in screw this will stop the wood from splitting and leave a stronger, more flush finish. Amazing build guys! Really impressed with the creativity and unique nature of your build 🙌 happy travels

    Great idea, but I don't think that they are supposed to be screwed down because they are bowed and when you lie on them they should flatten, if they are fixed at both ends with screws, then that can't happen. the pull out bit is fine, because they are only screwed to one side.

      Flora & The Novice Explorers I really like that design as some of them pull out beds are so stiff! And look like a ballache. Yours looks really easy to use. Going with the same in my mates vivaro. Thanks for taking the time to reply and enjoy your travels 👍

      Sorry, only just seen your reply! Yeah, ours works surprisingly well considering we made it :p we tried to keep most things as simple as possible! Hope the bed works out for you! Cheers :)

    Hello from California. Where do you find the curved/arched slats? Are these from IKEA?

    • @FloraTheNoviceExplorers
      @FloraTheNoviceExplorers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Condell hello! Yes indeed. A bit of searching around ikea and we found a perfect set! I think these may have been for a king size bed if my memory is correct. We bought bigger than we needed just in case and cut to size :)

      Nice bed! Do the slates give you any trouble when your pushing them back in? We want to use the slates too. Do they seem to be holding up good?

    • @FloraTheNoviceExplorers
      @FloraTheNoviceExplorers  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Yeah they go back in perfectly. But you have to make sure you’re pushing it back in equally instead of one side then the other. Holding up well so far. Only thing we’d advise is being careful screwing them is as we have cracked a couple slightly. But all good!

      @@gaylein39503 I saw a van bed build where they screwed a piece of wood under and across the ends of the pull out slats... so they were not moving around so freely... hope that makes sense ((-;

      Kev Horwood Hi! this is a LWB t5. the bed measures about 180cm in length. I can't remember the exact width at the moment, but it's almost a standard double sized bed!

      Hi, curious as to how you got those bed slats slightly curved upward? Thanks!

    • @FloraTheNoviceExplorers
      @FloraTheNoviceExplorers  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the slats came pre-curved as we bought them as a set from ikea. When we trimmed them down we took a bit of each end to retain as much as the curve as we could! Thanks :)

    How tall did you make the bed?

    • @FloraTheNoviceExplorers
      @FloraTheNoviceExplorers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there. Sorry for slow response, had to go measure! The bed is about 15.5 inches tall (excluding mattress). This gives us a bit of storage space underneath and makes it comfortable to sit on and have your feet on the floor. Our mattress is about 4 inches thick. Hope that helps :)

      @FloraTheNoviceExplorers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Yes. This is the LWB T5. We'd definitely have another LWB as that little extra room does really add up.

      Hi! Can't measure them right now but they are pretty much these: www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/mattresses/slatted-bed-bases/lur%C3%B6y-slatted-bed-base-art-50278726/ however ours might be slightly longer, hope that helps :)

      Thank you that worked, one more question what did u use for the foam

    • @FloraTheNoviceExplorers
      @FloraTheNoviceExplorers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We're still working on the foam! For a quick fix we used some old foam from a caravan, however this is a little old and not overly comfortable. In the new year we'll be purchasing some foam, looking at something that comes topped with memory foam. We just need to work out the best thickness of foam that is comfortable and practical.
