    Hey everyone! On this episode, we show you how build a custom daybed! This daybed will be going into our camper and will act as our couch/guest bed. This was our first time building any type of furniture, so we hope you're able to learn from us and avoid costly mistakes. Thanks for watching and remember to "like" and "SUBSCRIBE" to follow along!

    Add 2 solid ply wood 1/4 in thick with hinges for the back ply wood to open for back rest while the other covers the seating for a stronger seating area then add wheels to all legs. Make your own mattress or get a thick toper. When you open the bed to twin or king you can fold down the plywood after you slide the other out. I seen these they run from $350+ they can have drawers or trundles under the extended end. Thank You for the Blessing I couldn't afford it, but now I can build and I'm good at that.

    Yes! Thank you for this tutorial! My mom owns the ikea version of this bed, and I've always loved it. 🥰
    I don't necessarily have a small bedroom, at least for an older home, but it also isn't "big" by any stretch of the imagination. My previous [California king sized] bed used to take up most of the floor space in my room. Even though I loved it, I decided to downsize to something smaller about a year and a half ago. This bed looks fairly easy to build and would make a great compromise between floor space and a bigger bed.

      You're very welcome!❤ Yes, it's very easy to build and holds up very well. We've had it for over a year now and it's as good as the first day we had it. Let us know if you have any questions through your building process!

    This build is somewhat similar to the IKEA Hemnes daybed. There are online video guides on how to assemble it. The user manual with dimensions, parts list, assembly instructions is also online. IKEA does offer some of the assembly hardware as a separate purchase. I just dismantled my king waterbed but have kept the two 3-drawer units that supported the mattress. I'm considering using one or stack both of those drawer units for the trundle component of a daybed. I like that the Hemnes has vertical panels on 3 sides. I'm thinking I could use 30x80 hollow core interior doors instead, one for the backrest, another cut in half for either end. Since hollow doors aren't suitable for bearing any load, I plan to build a sturdy frame from 2x lumber as a "sleeve" for the trundle. The doors will then attach to the sturdy sleeve.

    This is the simplest build and one I've been looking for. I'll build one for my fifth wheel. The only change I'd make in mine is the two outside slats would be pull outs, not screwed down. I think that would stop the falling in. Your build allows oodles of storage space underneath- fantastic. Mine will be built of reclaimed pallet wood (it's what I can afford). Thank you again.

      I've lived here since 1993, I'm originally from Dublin, Ireland. The scenery is very much like home. You guys should try and make it down here for a tour, it is an amazing country.
      When I came here in 1993 I bought an old wreck van for $750 and put a new engine in it, also suspension, brakes, new spray paint, and kitted out into a Campervan and traveled the North and South Island for 3 months..... it was my best experience.
      Keep in touch and let me know if you guys come down this way 👍
      Hope you keep clear ov the Covid-19.

Beautiful scenery. Heard amazing things about Ireland too! Hopefully we make it out your way one day, would love to see your beautiful country! Thanks so much, you guys stay healthy and safe as well!

    Nice job. The section or part that pulls out "stands" on two front legs that don't have a cross piece like the other part of the bed. Why wouldn't you add a cross piece that would keep those two legs stable when it is pulled out? Couldn't see if that cross piece would sit on the floor but if not, maybe it being not quite as wide across the front of the bed would be okay or it could just go up off the floor an inch or so. To have a cross piece acting as another stabilizer would keep the bed from being too wonky on the pull-out action. You can take bees wax or a bar of soap & rub it along those wood slats which would make the pull-out action a bit easier too (in case the wood swells with the weather or you can always give it a spray paint shower). Thanks you two for a great video & reminding us to measure twice & cut once (which we saw when we realized how careful you were about your measurements).

    Lookd like didnt make runners? Stops it dropping. Also put a spacer under to stop friction so slides open with ease. Thats what i did to mine

    Nice easy to do, measurements also super. But which one is 1", like to didn't show any wood measurement before or at the timing of sofa making. Reply us

    Thanks a lot for that. how did you fix it (if you did!) inside the camper ? on the wall and floor ?

    • @MellowCo
      @MellowCo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem! Never needed to fix it so don’t have much info for you there. But it can be easily taken outside to work on if it needed repair.

    Hello, very interesting and easy to make bed solution :) Is this still in use? Did anything break over the years? I think of sitting at one end in the middle will break the long 2x2 or something?

    • @MellowCo
      @MellowCo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much! We sold it when we sold our camper, but it held up perfectly as long as we had it. Never had one problem with it. Held everyone safely that sat or slept on it.

    Absolutely love the visual video thank you so much.
    If I could suggest something it would be.
    Annie Sloan Clear Chalk Paint Wax. Or any namebrand. Chalk wax paint.
    Which would tremendously help the slide of the wood. I’ve used it on the bottom of old drawers to help them open and clos Easly and it Works great.

    Respectfully, that's not the greatest. If and when those slats drop with the weight, it will be a nightmare to get that thing back together.
    But it's a design, and if it works for you... GREAT JOB!

  • @daljordan8921
    @daljordan8921 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You need diagonals on each section unless you are covering the back and sides with plywood. Then you would only need them on the front slide out legs. It won't hold up without them.

    • @MellowCo
      @MellowCo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good info! Ours has held up great, but def a good suggestion for people!

    Legs on the back of the pull out instead of that 'lock'. 2 x 1 slats and more of. You'll get serious matress sag. Good how to, thank you!

    • @MellowCo
      @MellowCo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No sag on ours after a year of use. Thanks though! You're very welcome!

    What type of mattress do you use with this style pullout daybed?

    • @MellowCo

      We used a mattress topper type of foam and cut it to fit.

      Can you start in the reverse with the braces so that the pull out brace is on the very end? I am thinking if I go with a thinner foam type mattress it won’t be supported enough on the ends?...☮️
