    I have a Kleinguenther K14 and three Golden Eagles in various calibers. Both are extremely fine rifles, and are still undervalued in most auction venues because folks don't know how nice they really are.

    yes! i went to their store in seguin, texas,and had a memorable, if not expensive experience, i guess in the late eighties i admired a beautiful rifle stocked with cherrywood that had been struck by lighting right outside their building. they offered to let me shoot the gun (or any that i fancied), but since my dad was with me and a little tired, i declined. it was a fine trip and not far away from our home then. i later acquired a voere from europe made for mauser in 8 x 68s which proved to be a bear to load for. my first attempt left me hammering open the bolt with far too hot a lot (tho by no means max). it remains a mystery....

    I picked up a Nikko, Beautiful gun, Quality & Craftmanship is off the charts, barrel is pencil thin, just a Gorgeous Gun., Action is Smooth as Butter.

    I owned a Golden Eagle, 300 Weatherby Mag in the 1980's that was a beautiful rifle. But I didn't keep it very long because of what I decided barrel whip from that long slender barrel. Seemed like every quick follow up shot produced a flyer. It took me a lot of time to get the scope 'sort of' like I wanted it. Had to wait several minutes between shots for a cool barrel. It was sure pretty, and I sometimes wish I had kept it.
    Great video !!!!!! Keep em coming !!

    Thank you for posting! I'm 26 and own only black guns but your channel has really given me the classic bolt gun bug. I found a 1963 Belgian Browning Safari in 30-06 online for 800$ that I will probably buy, thanks to this channel. Thanks for reminding me old world craftsmanship wasn't just for classic cars, tools, and industrial equipment.

      Hi Nate - welcome on board and I'm glad you're here. It would be difficult to buy a better rifle than your Browning Safari 30-06 - great decision on your part. The black guns are remarkable in their reliability and durability and it isn't surprising the market is captivated by them for now. On the other hand, one cannot live on one food alone.

    I've seen the Nikko for sale but your video really brings out the craftsmanship and function. I had no idea it was a rear locking gun or that the fit finish was so nice. Thanks as always.

      Sleeper guns - those Golden Eagles - and with the 60 degree bolt throw - which I forgot to mention in the video - almost any scope fits - the bolt handle does not hit.

    Had a K15 i bought new back in late 70's in 7mm mag the most accurate rifle i ever owned.The action was so slick just tilting the rifle down would let the big 3lug bolt slide and lock the action.Also had the nicest blueing i ever saw sorry to let it go when i lost my job.

      I visited the Kleinguenther location back in the day… their guns left the shop with an attached plastic target that was shot with the particular gun … my understanding was that didn’t leave the door unless three shots were touching … they were a beautiful gun …

    Bob Kleinguenther was brought to the USA by Roy Weatherby to be one of his design team members. He was working for VOERE. If you look at a VOERE SHIKAR and a Weatherby Mark V they are almost identical. After leaving Weatherby, he started Kleinguenther Dinstictive Firearms KDF in Texas. He modified the SHIKAR Model and called it the K14 and modified the Voere Titan and called it the K15. I have many of both models.

    • @UnitedStatesOfGuns
      @UnitedStatesOfGuns  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're a lucky man Jason. I only have 2: the one in the video and one Voere Titan in 6.5X55 that someone at the factory made a huge mistake on - the wood is extraordinary. The blank must have drifted over from an exhibition production line - well....close anyway. How these rifles are not better known is a mystery. The Titan/Kleinguenther is brilliant.

    Well, you've done it again! You've managed to pick a pair of rare rifles that I've seen recently, you have an uncanny ability to do that...
    One of our local shops had a Golden Eagle in 30-06 on the shelf for about 6 months, nice rifle which sold for $550.
    I also ran across one of the K-15's at a gun show 2wks ago, dead mint for $1,000. I'm sure I'd have actually looked at it except for the fact it was in 300WinMag.
    Great video, as always! Take care!

    Good afternoon USOG - you must be going thru my gun collection again!!! I was lucky enough to have one of my Model 788's customized by Mr. Kleinguenther (Lord rest his soul) - everything he did - especially custom rifle building was first class... My 788 is built in a 7mm-08 and it looks very little like the original 788! And, I almost bought a Golden Eagle one time while in Michigan and for some reason - I did not pull the trigger. (no pun intended...) So I do not have that one... Great and informative video as always... Going to watch your other new video on Kimber rifles. I own a number of Kimber rifles and love them all. I especially like a Model 84 with a beautiful wood stock in .257 Roberts and a "all weather" stainless Model 84 in .325 Short Mag. Thanks so much Sir - always fun to see and hear your videos... Very fun to listen to a gentleman that is a crazy about rifles as I am... Best regards USOG

    • @UnitedStatesOfGuns
      @UnitedStatesOfGuns  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello my friend - wish you had that Golden Eagle - gotta get one or two before the crowd finds out. Your 788 must be the ultimate 788 - accuracy wise and otherwise; they are great to start with. For sure we're the keepers of the realm when it comes to guns; thankfully in good company - now I know there are like minded people around the world.

    • @manwithclass09
      @manwithclass09 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good morning Sir - as usual - you are correct... The 788 Custom is silly accurate thanks to Mr. Kleinguenther. Yes - we are obviously like minded and very passionate about firearms and the history. Sometimes I just look at a firearm and marvel at how an inanimate object - can still seem to have a "life" - only a few people like you would understand what I mean by that statement. As I have said before - there are times when I wish the forearm could talk. Starting work on a home defense Baikal single shot - I do not really need one - but why not??? I only hope it turns out as well as the SKS I recently finished. Lastly - still in the market for a Golden Eagle - I always thought that rifle would be great in a .300 H&H due to the long action - seems a bit longer to me than a Model 70 or 700... Almost like an old 1917 Enfield. Anyway - take good care Sir - thanks for the wonderful channel/videos...

    Too bad that Nikko is no longer making firearms . They made some fine shooting shotguns . The rear locking bolt is criticised for weekness but yet we hold some rear lockers in great esteem , the Lee Enfield and Lee Speeds have fast bolts and the Remington 788 is renowned for accuracy . Perhaps it is time for one of the major manufacturers to introduce a rear locker , I for certain would be interested in purchasing one in preference to , say , a complicated straight pull bolt action . Thank you for showing the Golden Eagle , I will keep my eyes open for one , it has great appeal .

    4 hundred dollars for the Golden Eagle??? lol Wow! That is a lot of beautiful wood and metal for a terrific price! I have owned some browning firearms made in Japan and the detail and the fit and finish I believe assures those rifles a place as a treasured addition. Why so inexpensive? Maybe the somewhat flamboyant woodwork? I am just stumped on that price compared to value.
    Is it Voere that introduced the caseless ammunition rifle? I love your videos, they always remind me of my wishlist and dreams as a child. I am happy you chose to keep your dreams and share them with us. Thank you!

    Two very fine rifles. I like the covered removable magazine on the K15. On the Golden Eagle it looks like the trigger is serrated trigger which I usually like. One of mine is still in military configuration with the grenade launcher, all numbers match including bayonet. It is very accurate with its open sights. The other was sporterised in the 50's or 60's by a company in CA. Its a really good shooter, and as light as a 22. I think the company in CA was Santa Fe Arms (not 100% sure). I recommend the military version as well as the sporter by SFA.

  • @Patriot-rising
    @Patriot-rising ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I own a Voere single shot .22LR which is a rather cool little rifle. But I really like the one you have there with the drop down bottom metal and a magazine.
    As for Nikko, aren't they are part of that whole mess with Winchester ?
    This was in a Japanese firearms plant where Winchester provided tooling , training and materials. And instead of putting the higher end materials on Wincbester 101's they used the materials for the Nikko brand.
    And I personally always felt the Nikko brand ( Golden Eagle) were rather cheap looking. I honestly believe that Nikko was also the producer of S&W ( non Sauer) bolt action rifles. Prone to cracking and other issues.
    I could be very wrong as I am old er now and do have a tendency to get my stories wrong ever so often.

    • @UnitedStatesOfGuns
      @UnitedStatesOfGuns  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Patriot - I think your stories are right on track. I'm not sure of the ins n outs of all the Japanese makers - but m Golden Eagle rifle is a diamond so far - as for the rest - I know the Model 101 Winchester - original model - was the best O/U ever - dollar for dollar IMHO. Thanks for the note Patriot. I'm waiting for your next post. God Bless.

    Funny thing, yeah? All brass stretches no matter the lug type, which is why when neck sizing, or whole case sizing we have to trim, not to mention the stretching that occurs from die resizing. To the average sportsman shooting the rifle less than 20 shots per year it is virtually irrelevant how a bolt locks up. Unless it is a Ross Rifle put together the wrong way...

      It is Voehre out of Vohrenbach (Germany) not Voehre out of Kufstein (Austria). The german company bought a bancrupt austrian company (Tyrol) and gave its name to their austrian subsidiary in 1964. In 1987 the german production in Voehrenbach was sold to Mauser due to a market breakdown in Scandinavia (Voehre‘s main market) after the nuclear desaster in Tschernobyl 1986.

      Hi Bob, Thanks to you now I know about this company and action. Interesting bolt handle and they seem to be using impressive steel alloys in their actions; which are derivative actions - at least based on what I've seen. By that I mean they have Mauser, Remington and other features - which is an intelligent way to go. Quite a robust mechanism for holding the magazine in place. I'll keep track of what they are up to; maybe I'll send a deposit for an action. Thanks for mentioning.

Just strange since Scranton Pa is spelled with a "c" not a "k". lol

I have one that was passed down to me that once belonged to my father who passed away in 1983 and the he never shared with us to where he stored the bolt. And since Nikko is no longer around I have failed to find any leads as to find a replacement bolt. I'm desperate to make this rifle functioning since its a family airloom.

    My dad has a Golden Eagle 7000 in .30-06, seems to be in great condition, and has offered to let me buy it for $500. Should I do it or let him sell it?

      Hi roller_47 - I receive a lot of questions such as yours. I also receive a lot of comments about guns people have been gifted by their parents. I would say the 70 condition is worth $500. but offer maybe $400. and if you don't like it, you can always sell it.

    Is it difficult to to remove the stock from the golden eagle? When you separate the stock from the receiver and Barrel. Is there any little parts that may fall out?

      Hello - I wanted to get my Golden Eagle from the vault to check - but ran out of time. From memory, you should have no surprises - basic floorplate screws. I usually remember if a rifle has tricks to it on disassembly and I don't remember any with the Golden Eagle. I hope I remembered well.

      Hi, I dont know if its still relevant, but I believe the golden eagle was marketed in Europe as Winchester model 777. Might be worth a try. Best regards.
