I started into Trials in 1973 (Yamaha DT50, Montesa Cota 49, Cota 123, Cota 310, Fantic 200) then quit around 1981 ... and got back 26 years later (on a Beta250Rev3) now on a TRS300RR) ... so thanks loads for filling my 26 years knowledge gap with videos like this one. Keep them bringin!!! And again great riding on the "Titanic". 💪🏻
I love the older bikes, I just picked up a 74 suzuki RL 250 It is proper fun even though it never was the greatest LOL I always am looking for a TL though
What a beauty. I bought a new Ty250 in 1974. Currently own a totally stock and original 1985 TY350 with only 285 kilometers on it. It feels really light when I get off my KTM 950 Super Enduro😊. Thanks for posting😊😊
Great stuff my Oldman baught one from bvm mid 90's for his return to trials at 50 for North somerset time trials it was ol but the revs hung on forever and gearbox was like a steam engine lol it was popular in the timetrials some guys moded them to to really fly and wher ideal for meetings like the tanner trudge, nice bike if you can ditch all the pink and go red and white
When I started riding trials in the late 80s in Southern California, I rode with a 60 something year old wizard, Art Webster; he would do amazing full lock turns hollering, laughing, and bleeding! Fun days!
Thanks Danny great video :) You mentioned "if you're not looking into your suspension for your weight, and height...then do it." That would be a great topic for Trials Tube Plus :)
@@TrialTube Another that might be really good or squeezed in somewhere... size of your first trials bike. as a new rider 125, 200, 250, 300 all feel about the same in one sense... "not used to it". and i'm not cracking the throttle hard trying to get over a big obstacle etc. it's slow turns, learning wheelies, stoppies, etc. if i have sense i don't twiiiist my wrist too hard while doing that and like you showed in the turning video try to be smooth with the clutch. but as a new rider i don't know what i don't know. what comes after basics? will i then be like "gads! i'm gonna die! arm stretch!" Great Video. Little bit of trivia, The last national a ty 250 won was ridden by John 'JR ' Reynold and owned by Richard Thorpe the importer of PJ1 oils
Great bikes so bomb proof, some farm lads used them all week shepherding then rode trials on them on a weekend. Some bored out to 270, Phil Alderson could make one fly round the Scott.
Yamaha, not the best first impression when you got on one as they were not particularly powerful BUT, they made you a better rider. Both TYRs and TYZs, you could be off line from the start of the section to the end and still clean it. Fantastic bikes, thanks Danny, brings back a few memories.
I don't remember this pink version, only the red and white one which had a drum front brake. I really wanted one as I was riding the old 250 twin shock version at the time, but could not afford one. I did stop riding in the late 80's though...
We can all see you had fun making this one. I tool about on a 03 TXT280 Pro. I guess I have to wait a while for that to become retro. Thanks for the great content.
Falcon linear uprated fork springs and longer rear shock, make the Mono suspension much more like a modern bike. Rear shocks not designed specifically for the Mono, sometimes mean rather low rear ride height, with the tyre getting very close to the guard. Fitting a Fantic 305 reed block and Keihin PE26 carb, improves throttle response, gives extra power. and overcomes any possible problems related to badly worn TK carbs. Moving the rests down and forward, puts a bit more weight on the front end, and means that the chopper steering angle doesnt affect the steering quite so much.
Really sad about T+MX news. As a 15 y/o I read it cover to cover. Bill Lawless asked to borrow my TL125 to nip up to the car park at a trial at Alvanley I was chuffed to bits!
Loving this Danny. The only time I ever got my name in the paper was in TMX when I got 3rd place in a Man17 trial on my 88 TY250R. I couldn't throw it around at 16 like you threw that pinky around though. 😂
now i know why you have a pinky on your show.... remember your dad having one in the day, and i sold him my 175 TY with a samey miller tank and seat conversion.... PS it was (gulp) 125 on the log book then ......
Such a shame about TMX. I bought one recently for the first time in years for the ads as I wanted to buy a bike. But there weren't any ads. And there weren't as many reports as I remember. So without the ad revenue, and the readers buying it for the reports and the ads I guess it just wasn't viable anymore.
Shame modern style riding, would mean a 5, in mostly everything you just did! Apart from the last bit, when nowt was touching the pegs and it stopped for ten seconds, they seem to clean that, in no stop.
Most trials in the UK (and everywhere else) are stop allowed. Best rules in my opinion. World Championship no stop is stupid really as people take advantage of the rules constantly…
Sorry but your board on the front is completely wrong as the logo and Yamaha are the Yamaha music logo as the points of the tuning forks don't touch the circle and the middle of the letter M stops short
had one of these ,but it got pinched never to be seen again never road it in a trials ,missed out . the engine`s never sounded sweet on these`s just like this one
Love your videos, not a fan of the cut scenes with the dog and the bomb and the background music. I honestly don't think they are needed at all, just my opinion, sorry.

Haha cheers man, we all have a soft spot for a TY-80
RIP TMX. All hail TrialTube. Great episode Danny we smiled all the way through this retro episode.

Wow the bigger engine ones were a rare item! Take care of it!
Bike looks as good in the flesh as it does on video, and your Dad's a good rider too!
Haha he is ok lol
Love it. Might have to drag the Pinky out the garage and start the project! Nothing like a bit of inspiration.
That’s what we like to hear!!! Get on it!
ahhh the memories of that gear change noise
It was rough as toast!
Thank you for the educational and interesting videos. Fun to relive the retro colors! Looking forward to checking out TrialTube+.
Trial tube plus great info on the training for the money spot on would recommend

The red ones were the older models, the pink is there to make the girls wink lol
My first bike as a kid was a twin shock ty250 majesty, my second was a pinky and I loved that thing
Both great machines there pal
A great bike giving better memories! Who could ask for more?!
Great to see the classic Pinky in action, nice ride !!

I understand the suspension set-up for weight, but not for height. I'm a novice from the MX world. Would someone please explain this for me ?
Okay, I could get used to the pink, but that green seat GAK !!!
Talk to Yamaha about that one …

Indeed!!!

You are talking about the earlier 250S there and they were dual drum brakes. A great start for this version of the bike for sure.
I'm constantly in awe of your riding skills, so serious question. Do ever look at an obstacle and think, nah I'm just going to get hurt if I try that.
All the time 😅😅😅

Seen a few lads riding TYZ’s in the 2022 Scottish. Just shows how impressive these bikes are for the time
Aye, they were the men of the trial for sure!!
@@TrialTube i cleaned stuff at the SSDT on my TYZ in 98 and 99 that i never cleaned again ! Not on a BETA or Gas Gas or Sherco, amazing bikes

Good stuff as always mate, love seeing the old bike reviews.
