- South Asian Americans are one of the fastest-growing ethnic groups in the United States. As the community's roots grow deeper into second and third generations, its achievements and cultural boundaries are also expanding. Nearly 5.4 million South Asian Americans live in the United States, according to advocacy organization SAALT. Within that group, people descending from India have a median income of about $100,000 a year, according to Pew Research Center. That is about $20,000 more than the national average listed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

@@Infiniteemptiness I am from India, obviously you're not from USA. the other south asians get lumped in with us, they almost always have to state otherwise. Most don't even tend to correct them. Also only half of Indian Americans are hindus, 18 percentage are muslims and 37 percentage are Christians. Christians disproportionately represent over hindus and muslims. The most successfully integrated are sikhs, they are the most unproblematic also.

India is a birthplace of 4 religions. Sanatan Dharma(Hinduism), Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism. All Indic religion teaches Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, all world is a family. There is no concept of believers and non believers like Christianity or distinction as momin and kafirs like Islam. All Indic religions are truly inclusive and not exclusive like abrahamanic religions

It’s like W Bengal and Bangladesh. But remember Pakistan is way more than just Punjabi culture however dominant it is. Pakistan has other provinces.

Why South Asian? Why not just mention Indian? Other south Asian groups are different and so are their achievements.
India with 1.2+ billion people deserves its own individual identity. You don't see Fox lumping Greeks and Turks together as South East Europeans. Or Japanese and Koreans together as North East Asians.

South Asians in America is a great thing for American diversity. Very happy that America is the only country with the most diverse backgrounds. Tectonic plates decide Continent Status. The Indian tectonic plate is named exclusively after India & is separate from the Asian tectonic plate, hence Himalayas are still growing each year as India pushes deeper into Asia.
Indians from India have to be identified differently from native Indians in North America.

Simple question - why do pakistani people, like you, try so hard to include us, Afghans, as part of South Asia? Is it because you falsely believe including Afghanistan will distance you from India? Pakistanis tend to do the same with Afghans even tho they only share Pashtun and hazara ethnic groups. I also notice Afghans trying very hard to align themselves with Iran while the Iranians constantly distance themselves from Afghans lol. I think Iranians distancing themselves from Afghans is a result of negative connotations associated with Afghans and Afghanistan.

@@ramrao668 I don’t live in the states but whenever I do go, I’ve never encounter a Pakistani who claimed to be Indian and it’s good if Indians accept they are different than Pakistanis most of them look different than Pakistanis anyways except ethnic Punjabis and Kashmiris. South Indian culture is more progressive than the North Indian culture, particularly when it relates to the status of women. A higher percentage of women from south India study STEM in colleges. This leads to their financial independence and social upliftment, which contributes to the success of their community both within India and in the USA.
The worst off are women from Pakistan who are treated as inferior beings within their culture and discouraged from pursuing higher education in STEM. This keeps them subjugated both socially and economically, thereby not enabling them to contribute to the success of their community both within Pakistan and in the USA.
