Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever looked TERRIBLE last night. Their performance was bad for a PLETHORA of reasons, but their terrible defense-especially Kristy Wallace’s-was on full display. This lead to Jewell Loyd’s 34 point performance, where she shot 66% from the field. What went wrong for Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever? In this video, I break down the film.

Kelsey Mitchell wants to go one-on-five every time she gets the ball, never wants to pass, especially to Caitlin. Wheeler is not a good defensive player. This team cannot set a screen if their lives depended on it. Sides is a disaster as a coach. Getting rid of Celeste Taylor was a horrendous move. This team is a mess.
Cc didn't even get a good screen no shot was doubled most of the time no cutters is crazy what a waste of talent

Wallace had like four knee surgeries in the past years so i don't blame her if she isn't as fast as others. anyway what's more embarrassing is Jewel Lloyd schooled Fever with one eye closed.

There is always going to be a weakness defensively with Boston and Clark so they gotta surround them with bulldogs defensively that can knock down open 3s, also someone else that can create her own shot but not hijack the offense everytime it touches her hand lol

Wallace is main defender so that CC and Mitchell don’t get into early foul trouble. They also don’t want CC and Mitchell getting banged up running through 100 screens. CC is a long distance shooter- can’t do that if you dog tired chasing Jewel for 25 minutes. Mitchell is a playmaker with a fast first step- can’t do that exhausted. Did you see the woman that went out with leg cramps from chasing CC around all game? You can’t sprint all game and be flawless in the last 2 minutes.
If Clark doesn't start putting up better numbers and make for a better viewing the momentum that she brought to the WNBA is going to be lost. People will quit watching even the fever because frankly they suck and Clark is not really doing anything magnificent at this point.

Its very obvious what they are doing. Let me give a hint. They do not have a good enough team to win the year. What is the benefit of coming somewhere in the middle of the standings?? Now if they come in last or close to it they get a good draft choice for 70k or so. Now.... the GM is not doing anything , the owner is not doing anything so they are all in on this. Second vid of yours I'm watching... you're winning me over with excellent analysis and asking the questions that EVERYBODY, especially the media, should be asking, of Coach Sides. I'm in agreement with nearly every point you make, as a youth basketball coach and high school point guard, you're mostly making commonsense, should-be-obvious coaching points, and Coach Sides is a FAIL on all of them. She should be coaching middle school, not WNBA. Yes, absolutely, Wallace is simply not capable of guarding Jewell, it's a mismatch, why did Sides put her on Jewell? The only one I mildly disagree with you on is Boston going out to the corner to guard Jewell on the break, but it's more just that the team seems to have no design, no plan, no defensive rules for this situation. OK, so your way is probably best, a speedy guard should've gone out to con test, while the bigs retreat to the middle to stop fastbreaks and be in the best rebounding position for a miss. Keep up the great work!

They run the same offence in every game. They have one offensive set. Thats it. They never come out of man to man defense, ever.....
I don't understand why people keep saying Coach Sides. Sides is NOT a Coach by any definition of the word. She is absolute garbage and should have been fired weeks ago. There has not been any defensive adjustments made in any of the games. Even the ones they somehow manage to win in spite of Sides. There has been no offensive adjustments made by Sides. Same play over and over, and what makes that even worse is the fact that it is not being executed properly. Wallace and Wheeler never need to touch the floor period. Mitchell needs to see the bench until she can learn to play team ball. The owner needs to clean house starting with his GM, and entire coaching staff. Good video by the way!!
Out of respect for the position and the title and what a coach SHOULD BE, I do call her Coach Sides. Coach Sides is definitely way below what should be the standard for a coach. I'm sure she'd do fine coaching middle school girls, though.

The problem with Fevers offense is not Clark not getting more shots-it is they absolutely WILL NOT cut weak side. I mean absolutely refuse. This is one of the most fundamental things one can do offensively and this is also the Coaches fault if she’s not calling it out. And I’m not a Fever fan nor do I have to be just giving an objective assessment of the most glaring problem. No ONE cuts 🤷🏽♀️🤦🏾♀️

I watched both and you made an excellent choice. Believe me Biden ran a worse defense. There are at least 2 players which need to be removed; those players spend most of their time playing to make points, not defending nor helping other make points. It was great to see Temi Fagbenle on the court. Boston needs to do at least 1 hr of potato races a day to lose weight and learn to corner and get used to short sprints. You are an excellent analysts.

THIS is where she needs Angel's not just mental toughness (which cc already has too) - but tap into that unapologetic "bad guy" toughness, and just unapologetically take over like the other iso-players on her team keep doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have you seen the movie inside out 2? If you have remember when Riley’s anxiety put so much pressure on herself to get three goals instead of two to make the team? All she thought about was scoring? That’s the Fever team in a nutshell- they never grew out of that anxiety to score to feel “good enough”. They continue to completely disregard other aspects of the game, which is on full display 🤷🏽♀️

maybe you're right for a lot of fans, but I'm a CC fan and I don't want her to go iso. what I saw at Iowa was her heartfelt dedication to the team. look at her assist stats, even now. she wants to build a team. coach Bluder saw that and supported her. coach Sides doesn't see it, and doesn't care.
I do agree that she's not helping herself or the team with passes to people who aren't ready for them, or able to do anything with the ball. but I have to wonder why the coach isn't lighting a fire under CC's teammate's butts, to get her the ball, look for unexpected passes, get the ball back to her if they can't do anything with it. i.e., play as a team, using CC as an actual point guard.
Once again spot on analysis! For the life of me I can't understand any of the things they do on the offensive or defensive side of the ball.

All hands are on deck - but only because this ship is going down. Sides is doing coach theatre. The ship is going down and it's every woman for herself. This can't be coarse corrected. This can't even be patched up. This one is going down under the weight of its own futility.
Caitlin Clark has been left behind and she's just playing violin on the bow. She does have a helicopter-from-God lifeline, but she won't use it. This girl's got courage and she'll let it go down, knowing she is always buoyed by the loyal, then she'll swim to find a better harbor if she must.
The question now is whether this debacle is insured - will the Fever owner-ship rebuild something that resembles a pro franchise? If not, then cut Clark free of that tether on her ankle. Maybe Fegbenle too. Boston still has one foot in two different boats. She may mature past the anchor of the Bully Club (w/Staley) because she is not a bully, or she may not.
Now if you want to torture yourself, then join the rest of us who we'll hold our breath as we endure the test of the WNBA stink. If this thing got this bad this fast, just think how much further it can sink.

Video suggestion. I've seen Sides react to CC turning the ball over and missing deep 3's. You ought to do a video of her reacting to plays. She is somewhat of a mad person on the sidelines. Running up and down. Has a lot of expressions.

The WNBA is a sisterhood of 143 basketball players plus coaches. Caitlin Clark is not part of this sisterhood. Clark was not drafted to win games. Clark was drafted to increase the WNBA audience and showcase the skills of the sisterhood. Sister Sides and the sisterhood will not help her with proper screens. Clark needs to figure out a way to shoot 20 + three-point attempts. Caitlin Clark needs to protect her brand, or she will be considered a bust.

Their only hope is pulling Griner up towards the free throw line or top of the key with the screen for Clark on the strong side. Clark gets Boston the ball and she passes it off to the weak side cutter. The only problem is NO ONE ever cuts on the FEVERs team-NO ONE. It is as if everyone including the coach skipped that in fundamentals 😂.
Ultimately they will lose unless Copper DT Cunningham and Griner ALL have a bad game🤷🏽♀️

For example, if a coach sees their star player being shut down, they should call a timeout to make some adjustments on the screens, allowing the player to gain an advantage and score more points. Instead, this coach wants her to pass the ball to players who gave up on turnovers and didn’t deliver, taking her out of her natural flow seen in other games. Caitlin Clark is understandably frustrated. The coach has created a negative vibe from the beginning among the players. The Indiana Fever needs a more experienced coach to compete against tougher opponents and improve their standing as the worst team in the league. The opposing teams have better coaching, and the Fever was outcoached. Caitlin Clark struggled all night with the blitz, a defensive tactic in basketball where the ball handler is double-teamed during a screen to force a turnover and disrupt the offense. Blitzes can be applied in both full and half-court settings, often used against star players to neutralize their impact. It’s starting to look as if it’s purpose to disrupt the rookie’s psychologically to chill out her fans. That coach hates the attention that this player is receiving because she is threatened so she keeps her on the floor in vulnerable situations to prove a point. Her coach does not have Carlin’s best interest. She looking to remove her morale compass and we started seeing this in her last game against sky. Sides is gifted at exposing her jealosy and envy of Caitlin .. Wheeler SHOULD NEVER be in Fever offence .. Wheeler will NEVER pass to Caitlin .. Caitlin should shoot at lease 24 times per game .. that's 6 shots per quarter .. and at 50% completion that's 9 points per quarter .. Caitlin can easily perform at this level .. but she needs SCREENS or PICKS .. something completely absent in the Fever's offence ..

The owner(s) of the Fever see this, too. There is no desire to win. They are consuming Caitlin's energy to fight because she is on a team that is totally chaotic from top to bottom.. Caitlin is used to structure. I have played for a bad coach and at some point it takes the love for the game out of you. Caitlin would be better off faking an injury and hanging it up for the year. The alternative would be to allow her winning spirit to be broken which seems to be the goal of this Fever team, that is to break Caitlin's spirit.

Ideas for future videos: (1) Why are the fever unable to set a proper screen? - take 4-5 examples of good screens from the teams, set by different position (center to guard screen, guard to guard, forward to guard, double screens) and compare them to same position screens on the Fever. this will help the Fever as they will see how it is done right, and what lousy job they are doing. (2) How or move without the ball - compare steph Curry to Caitlin; she will thank you her entire life, (3) What is a good pick and roll? compare some stockton-Mallon and or Nash-Stodumire wit caitlin -Aliya Boston. You gotta gift man, you have to use it to better this team, Their dumb organization sure ain’t doing it.

I have a crazy request, which may or may not be possible. I would like to see all the passed up passes to Caitlin Clark. I know you have talked about the pump fake screens and passes but to actually mark and cover each one for an entire game and who exactly seems to refuse to pass to CC would be interesting. Saw a couple videos today of at least twice in the Seattle game where CC comes off a screen wide open and Wheeler just did not pass her the ball.
Adrienne Ross did a video about that, and one of her examples was Kelsie Mitchell running right by CC, with her hands up signalling for the ball. it's like they don't know what "point guard" means.

Curly (greatest Globetrotter) is smiling to see his lost daughter dribbling to the point of mocking the sport, until her Apendicitis Demon seizes her to Violently Heave the ball towards the backboard. Then she runs to the other end of the floor to keep her legs warm, waits for the other team to score so she can heat seek the ball for a comedic releif sequence of riding her invisible tricycle in circles around the court.

Clark never has any of those looks that Loyd got. Gratz Loyd on the great game, but damn the Fever defense just let Loyd do whatever she wanted. If only Clark could get even half of those looks. hope you're wrong. pretty sure she knew going in that it was going to be kind of like this -- there's a reason they got the #1 draft pick. just that I believe, from what I've seen of her, that CC is deeply committed to building a stronger team -- and so far, almost nobody else seems to even notice that she's trying, let alone trying to help by getting her the ball so she can distribute it. which she's amazing at: look at her assist stats. but the coach doesn't seem to care about that, at all. damn shame.

Nobody could have anticipated what is happening to Caitlin. Who anticipated that old washed up, dried up WNBA veterans would personally attack her by wishing ill upon her in the media and before the public. No one could have anticipated the non-basketball physicalities that are personal and not related to the action on the floor. Who could have anticipated that some of my people, Black people, would scorn her and attempt to associate her with racial animous. Who would have anticipated that the lesbians in the league would attempt to shame and demean her because she decides to play basketball and not bend the Colin Kaepernick knee to their wants. Caitlin's IOWA women's basketball team were much more fundamentally sound than this so-called professional women's basketball team. If she had saw this coming, then maybe she would have opted to play overseas.

Pathetic game. You tried to not attack the coach but spent the whole video talking about bad coaching decisions. I think that means it’s pretty hard to analyze a fever game and not question almost everything the coach does.
Ask Christie Sides all these questions because she doesn't coach at all.

I mentioned this in another video comment, something Id like you to explain/talk about if you have anything to say on it: I don’t understand what they’re trying to accomplish with their offense when Caitlin just gets a “screen”, runs along the 3 point line and passes it to another player like Aliyah right at the top of the key. Maybe idk enough about basketball but it doesn’t seem to get them anywhere and they did it like 80% of the time.

They are trying to do what’s called a pick n roll. It’s where a player comes and sets a screen ( also called pick) on the defender to get the pg double teamed, which opens up the screener, who then is supposed to roll towards the basket giving the pg the opportunity to pass to the roller. Go back and watch Seattle- they did it the whole night. All Christy sides had to do is put them in a 1-3-1 defense and this would have help stop it typically. Problem is Fever is slow and Seattle understands how to cut weak side.
Man to man defense also works but again as we can see Fever is slower than Seattle.
Seattle’s just a better team- period. Faster and more athletic 🤷🏽♀️

It would be cool if you made a game analysis of one of Clark's Iowa games and talk about how the Fever could benefit from adopting a similar style of play. Like the LSU vs Iowa in the Elite 8, where she went for 41 points and 12 assists. Seeing the game you can see Iowa does all the things you've mentioned the Fever should be doing, they know Clark will get them the ball, they pass the ball back to her unlike Mitchell, Smith or Wheeler, and they set up good screens for her to make open shots. That game is a great example cause you can see Clark didn't get hot at any point in time, she was simply consistent throughout the whole game as she could rely on her team.

Nice job. As a former college basketball coach, Indiana runs some of the worst offensive screens I've ever seen at any level. On almost every possession, as soon as Clark gets into the forecourt, the Fever, usually with Boston, will try and screen at the top of the circle but it's pathetic. The screeners just fall off, never holding their ground and when Clark does use the screen, instead of driving hard into the screen and rubbing her shoulder off the screener, she goes wide allowing the defense to easily hedge to her. Also, where are the double screens to free her up on offense??? It's disgraceful. Another thing Caitlin must do (and she will be unstoppable) is to develop a mid range and a floater in the key. She can get a step anytime she wants but she either takes a three, drives and dishes, or goes in for a layup when there are times she could pull up and shoot five footers all day long. I hope she develops this in the offseason. She should be glued to videos of Steph.
Caitlin had 1 floater against the Storm. Then the ball was taken out of her hands and we all know how well that ended up. Adrienne Ross has a video comparing the screens set by Iowa versus Indiana for CC.
Listening to the game is just as bad as watching it. 😅

Why isn't Christie Sides setting up plays for the best player on their team? They never set screens for Caitlin and Sides wants Caitlin to do nothing but pass the ball which is insane. She lead the country in college in scoring and she only wants her to pass the ball. Sides must have never watched her play in college. Sides has no idea how to coach and she has never been a head coach before now and shouldn't be coaching this young team, she is hurting them more than helping them. They need a new coach!!!!!
Sides also does nothing to HELP CC pass. CC values assisting: look at her stats. but no-one gives her the ball to distribute, and no-one's looking for her amazing and unexpected passes. look at any Iowa game, how they know to get open and look for a pass. and the responsibility for getting that to happen is the coach's.

I’ve followed AB, and nalyssa through their college career so I have a good idea of if their playing style. Before CC even joined I knew this would be a learning curve because they were both offense dominate players. Defense is not their strongest suit. Kelsey is used to having the ball. Everyone is dealing with changes and having an inexperienced coach on top of that has to be the worst. Everyone is confused. Now cc, another offense dominate player joins. All of them are used to having screens set for them and not them setting the screens. Sides over here has them doing ring around the rosy at practice. With an experienced coach, they can be one of the best teams and I’m not even an Indy fan but seeing how they’re playing is crazy. Free them from Sides.

I also left the debate to watch this, I was sure it would be a good game. After two periods, I returned to the debate. That’s how bad the Fever were.
From the Fever perspective: Defense, nonexistent; hustle, mostly nonexistent; CC makes great passes, most teammates couldn’t catch them, if they did, they weren’t positioned to take a decent shot; CC often drops two 3’s at the start and then focuses on assisting her mates, most of her mates weren’t scoring much in the first two periods, that I watched.
If Wallace can’t make a bucket, leave Lexie on defense and rebounding. She can sometimes get hot, but is a great defender, regardless. Show Wheeler the basket, she dribbles like she can’t find it.
I really felt like they didn’t want to play last night.
Also, I’m sick of watching Smith miss excellent passes. Temi has an excuse, she’s still a bit rusty.
Sides has since announced she now wants CC to take 15 shotsper game, but has the digression to shoot, rather than assist. Sides also said the others need to accept the ball and, if nothing is there, send it back to CC.
I’m anxious to see if there is difference when they play PHX on Sunday. I have high hopes.
I’d like to see a video of one game of CC shooting every time she comes up the court.

Great analysis. Keep up the good work. I agree. The team, except for Clark, doesn't know the.basics of basketball and she needs work on her defense. The whole team needs to be trained on pick and rolls, weak side defense, on the ball defense. pick and roll defense and how to make layups of perfect passes from Clark. She losing 4-6 assists a game because her teammates can't make layups.

SIDES KNOWS ! Sides out at the break or end of the season so shes not doing anything to assist Clarks development. She blames Clark. And Wallace is just terrible!
My thoughts, too. She resents Clark for exposing the mediocre coaching and performance of her pet vets.

Nobody on the fever has a clue on defense,their only chance of winning is outscoring other team which will be hard to do when you have ball hogs keeping the ball away from the best scorer ever

No, No, No, No. Wheeler has no chemistry with Clark. She tried to get close to Clark. But Clark has figured her out. Wheeler and Reese is a lot alike. "My Good Friend Caitlin". CC constantly runs around screens to get open and no pass from Wheeler then CC throws her arms up. Not friends. Just another player who belongs to the other clique.
CC biggest shot came from Wheeler assist, CC had 2 big assist off Wheeler shots. They are building chemistry. There is no conspiracy, they are the youngest team in a rebuilding phase. I know you were told that CC was superwoman and she could score a 100 points a game without breaking a sweat but it’s time to come back down to reality.

Lexi Hull would have been better on Loyd, she's taller and more athletic. Loyd has her best games against the fever, look at her stats, they haven't been great this year.

The game was beyond embarrassing from the tip off. I could write an essay on how the defensive/offensive scheme, and overall effort was lacking this game. It's just a dumpster fire at this point. They're not even a team half the time. The win streak covered up some major flaws, but im convinced the coaching staff and front office are actively trying to lose games and miss the playoffs.
Its coach sides fault, thats the way they practiced and execute the game....its frustrating to watch ,they are all lazy players except for C Clark and AB .

I'll be honest with you I'm getting tired of watching the fever. They're boring to watch and that's just sad because the only reason I even watched the WNBA to start with was because I watched Caitlin Clark in college. I have no interest in any of the other teams but frankly I would rather watch the other teams because they're better to watch. 😊

The Fever have no good single defenders except for Boston, but she’s a rim protector not a perimeter guard. They have no one on the floor coordinating otherwise average defenders like Draymond Green does. And the coaching staff seemingly has no plan when it comes to defense whatsoever. Not during the game or in practice. It’s the only part of their game that is not showing any improvement as the season goes on.
I'm learning the game, but it looked like the new player only passes to smith or mitchell. There seemed to be distain for Clarke. They all seemed confused about what to do on the court.
It feels like the games are scripted to be as bad as can be. Like they are trying to make us stop watching. How can the players in the WNBA be so inconsistent? They are supposed to be the best of the best. They think they are great but they really aren't.

C C continues to perform at an elite level in spite of weak support from her team mates and brutal defense by the league. She's the reason i watch.
