I don't think it's rewriting history to say that this was a huge moment of exposure to a new audience. It depends on who you are. I've never watched Men's or Women's College basketball, but once I heard about this rivalry I tuned in for it and watched the rest of the tournament. Obviously, I was much more interested in watching Clark than Reese after it, but I wouldn't have watched it if I hadn't seen the media article about them.

I am a 52 year old male and never would have watched women's basketball if Catlin Clark was not setting records.
I've talked to over 20 people about the WNBA and every person I talked to knew who Caitlin Clark was and only 1 or 2 had even heard of Angel Reese.
I will say this steph curry went 7th in the draft while playing a more entertaining an effective version of caitlin's game and was not a phenom until he turned his team around. Keep in mind m from the bayrea where he played. People didn't know if they should trade him or monta Ellis despite him being way more entertaining and efficient than caitlin as a pro.

To be fair, Magic and Bird early on HATED each other. Like they despised each other during early 80's, and it was only until later in the late 80's when they played each other in the Final series when they started to truly respect one another which then turned into what we see now them now as life-long friends.
