  • Are F1 driver’s safe? The F1 fanbase has seen a rapid expansion which calls for greater F1 security measures. Everything from F1 track safety and F1 circuit security to F1 driver’s security guards have all become a much more serious requirement in recent years. I can tell you that we have seen a lot of drivers and teams with more F1 security personnel. Lewis Hamilton’s security guards were the first I saw to accompany a driver to the track but recently even Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris have security guards at the F1 track with them. Will we see more F1 safety measures in the coming years and what would those increased safety measures look like? Make sure to watch the whole video to find out?

Thanks for getting rid of those random fact inserts. F1 or FIA, whoever is in charge of distributing passes for paddock access, really need to limit the amount of passes they sell or give out. At some tracks like Miami way too many people who have no business being there other than to harass the drivers get in.

5:21 Yes i witnessed this first hand. And as i told Aust F1GP via email after the event, the main problem was....
"EVERY SINGLE SECURITY GUARD THAT I SAW WAS WATCHING THE RACE, NOT THE CROWD!!!"

Kym, You may not be aware that Juan Manual Fangio was kidnapped by Cuban rebels in 1958 at a non formula one sportscar race held in Havana.
Yes security has greatly increased in the last couple of years.
Thanks for every video you and your team produce

Thanks, I remember listening to a podcast about a kidnapping in the late 50s, but I wasn't sure it was Juan Manuel Fangio.

The thing that impresses me the most about F1 security is the professional F1 security staff that goes to every race around the world. Those guys tend to be extremely professional, highly trained, and very large. They are friendly and helpful, but definitely don’t mess with them when it comes time for business.
You get to know many of them if you go to the races a lot in the Paddock Club/Paddock areas but when they do their job, they do their job regardless of whether they know you or not.
For example, during pit walks when it’s time to clear the pit lane at the end of a pit walk period they’ll get you to move even if they know you well.

Security is also part of the reason driver appearances are done at the F1 Fanzone stage areas at most races . In Bernies time in charge teams used to be solely responsible for organising driver appearances and it used to be chaos. It is no surprise Lando has a security guard given his Wembley experience.

Same with Leclerc. When his watch got stolen, he got in his car to chase them down. The robbers got out of their car and got on a vespa and were able to escape down narrow streets. The watch, valued at over $400k was eventually recovered and the criminals arrested last year

I met Romain Grosjean randomly at the 2019 US GP at a BBQ across from his hotel in Austin, after he housed a brisket at 9:30pm. No security and nobody bothered him really - except us.
At the same event, we met David Coulthard at a sushi restaurant while waiting for a table.
On the way home, my buddy encountered and had a chat with Nico Rosberg at the airport.
No security, just acting like regular people.

with the cost of tickets - how is more security necessary. I understand why it is needed for drivers and the teams, etc. But, for example - trouble makers that get in and sit on the track - the problem is the people or groups that organize and pay for those people to get in at all. Right, I know that is not something that we can solve on this channel.
