Yup. Now more than ever. They need one based at Lake Tahoe... Oh yeah some moronic environmentalist would complain that fish could be sucked up or some stupid thing like that... In reality however it amazes me that Boeing has not redesigned a 737 for this purpose. It only makes sense to use a seaplane for firefighting operations. It also disturbs me that we have drifted so far from free market principles that Boeing isn't losing sales in the US to aircraft like this.
@@bossymodo "In reality however it amazes me that Boeing has not redesigned a 737 for this purpose." I don't think it's possible. Also, as the engines are mounted on the top of the wings, so the whole internal structure is different. Awsome engineering.

I would disagree. They have built some amazing aircraft. And their newer SU's are quite amazing. Concord knockoff, Space shuttle knock off, B-52 knockoff, C-5 knock off, XB-70 knock off.
Russia has indeed produced some amazing aircraft over the years. The Migs all the way back to World War II to their SU's. We Americans have had some great success stories as well. The Mustang, The B29, B52, B1, The F-15. F14 For what it is the F16 and now the F22. So I wouldn't say they have one uped us. Love this sea-jet..
Sergey Zhuravski The topic of B-52 is rather loose. Just as the Blackjack is a "loose copy" of the B1, or the Sukhoi T-4 is a "loose copy" of the XB-70. In this case the TU-95 "Bear" is considered a loose copy of the B-52. Although the big difference is turboprop vs coaxial jet, the airframe is still very similar from length, wingspan, wingplanform, wing sweep, tail, and general "idea."
Justin Martin, you look too much western propaganda. Just small example, Concord was about half year later on the wings than Tu-144. Does it tell you something? With Apollo almost the same story: even today people are not able protect themselves against open space sharp radiation. May I ask you how american astronauts was protected 50 years ago? Have to admit, yes very practical as a fire fighting platform. In Southern California we have some of the worlds largest brushfires. We do use the Canadian turbo prop, USAF C-130's and sometimes a 747. But this has a faster response time from pick up of water to its target location. Too bad the State of California or Los Angeles County in California USA doesnt contract with Russia to use one during fire season. At times we have to drop our country spirit USA vs Russia or Russian vs USA.
Well because I love flying boats and large turbine powered flying boats are rare in this day and age. Also In general I like how the Russians build airplanes. They build good strong planes. So in all, I think this is a very interesting design, plus hey, it looks good too. :)
@ArrowSmith95 Turbo props. (relatively) small gas turbine engines with a shaft take off connected to propellors via reduction gear. Provides increased power and efficiency over piston engines while being cheaper to run than a pure jet.

i think it was the be-200 that clipped a tree on takeoff during a demonstration run - one engine "ingested" some tree branches, and stopped. the pilot continued the run on one engine, dumped his (full) load on the target, and then returned for repairs. not a lot of twin-engine planes can take off with a full load on one engine. a very impressive airplane.

@pangrac1 I know. The problem is the 500 character limit here. I was mostly thinking of the coral atolls where the water inside the atoll is quite calm. Besides, if the waves are too high to land a seaplane on then they are probably washing over the normal landing strip too. Either way, no planes go to that island.
I wish more machines like this one were made. It would really open up the gate domestic flights. Imagine how much simpler it becomes to organize a small airport So much less to build. At least for remote areas with positive winter temperatures it's a lifesaver. Way better than driving.
@gumby2440 and others. Yes this is a firefighter, but the only difference is internal fitout. As an airliner it carries 72 passengers some 2,100km, not too shabby that. Countries like Spain, Italy and France have made significant investments into these aircraft to protect their forests and it has made a huge difference.

My thoughts for the last 10 years !!!, All aircraft should float !! let alone be Safer if an engine or fault developes mid flight, Safer for all aboard , no run way needed particularly, and drop in anywhere !!, Its Gotta be the way to go, plus its fire fighting capability !! 10/10
Good video. The plane is somewhat like the Martin Sea Master of 1955. It just had regular jet engines, the Turbo Fan had not been discovered yet. Rather I should say the technology had not yet been explored.
Depends. Most of the US water bomber fleet is operated by private contractors. They can buy whatever kind of airplanes they like. If Beriev got a type certificate in the US, even as a Restricted category, they would get some sales. The real question is whether it would be worth the expense. Doing so might allow the retirement of the last 3 remaining flying examples of the Martin Mars, which is doing just this kind of duty.
Reminds me of the majestic WWII era Catalina, Nice Video, When get my I tropical island lair, in a hollowed out extinct volcano, this will be my personal transport,
@garandguy000 Yeah, you raise some good points I was pondering too. Especially the whole FAA certification thing. Though on the lake issue, from looking at a map of the AZ, California, Nevada areas you do see a good number of sizable lakes like Lake Tahoe, Mead, Powell, Mono Lake, Walker Lake, and the Great Salt Lake, etc that seem to be large enough for reloading on water. And you have the Pacific Ocean as well for wildfires within say 100-200 miles of the coast.
This is a very impressive jet. I can see this having many uses in the firefighting services and as well as search and rescue at sea. It is too bad this jet isn't available in the US. I believe Russia has produced some of the best aircraft and that includes many of their helicopters. Its too bad politics has to get in the way of things here.
The National Guard and Military don't have any _dedicated_ water bombers in their fleets, but they do have systems to adapt cargo types to the job. The dedicated water bombers are all operated by private contractors. The National Guard has equipment such as the Bambi Bucket for use with their helicopter fleet, and I know there's a slide-in system for the C-130 Hercules. The military does have some of this equipment, but they're only allowed to fight fires on military land, IIRC.
@JohnJ469 Only problem is, where is it going to go? The wheels are clearly placed to low to land on a normal runway. Water runways would have to become the standard of all airports, or at least most of them. I just don't see that switch happening.
@PaleHearse Probably not sea rescue- there are high waves in see. This plane is primarily designed to scoop up water from a lake in a few seconds, then quickly fly to the forest fire and release a few tonnes of water over the fire within a few seconds.
Bewok Hensem : Perhaps you do not realize just what type of plane this is. It is not a sea plane. A sea plane can only take off and land in smooth, still water. This plane is a flying boat. A sea plane is a conventional air plane that has had its landing gear replaced with pontoons. This plane is a flying boat. Notice the entire fuselage is floating on the water. The fuselage of this plane is a boat hull. This plane can take off and land in moderate seas. This plane is a flying boat. It can take off and land on some moderate seas.
+Stephen Williams This machine is the ultimate in firefighting water bombing. We badly need two or more of these fantastic machines for fighting our wild fires in Australia. We have plenty of large dams or lakes and as it has two jet engines it wouldn't take much space to take off on the water. Our very large air tankers we have on hire from America during our fire season have limits. The DC10 LAT which is contracted by the New South Wales Rural Fire Service and is based at the RAAF air base in Richmond NSW can land at most major air bases but cannot land at the Albury airport as the runway is too short, and it can land at Avalon airport in Melbourne but they don't have refilling facilities for fire retardant.
+Stephen Williams Actually it *is* a seaplane. Sea-plane is a category, floatplanes and flying boats are sub categories. Both sub categories are also divided amphibious and non-amphibious. You are correct in calling the Be-200 a flying boat but what you describe as a "seaplane" is actually a floatplane.
@@vaulthecreator you say potato I say potahto brought you are correct the average Joe calls it what he wants but the plane doesn't listen it can't read or understand language with all the fires raging around the world these are badly needed and Britain and America can build better ones if they wanted to and with global warming I bet they're already working on it
A jet powered Super Scooper!! Here in Los Angeles, we have the Canadair Super Scoopers for firefighting. I believe that our propeller aircraft can approach slower and execute more precisely than the jet aircraft can. I just wanted to throw that out there. :-)
It's turbo-fan powered. The stall speed of an aircraft has nothing (directly) to do with it's engines though. It's dependent on the aerodynamic design - to a large degree the wing-shape. Though usually you will of course see the aerodynamic design adapt to some degree to make use of the speeds the engines can provide. Take a look at the A-10 for example - it's also turbo-fan engine powered, but is optimized for operations in lower speeds. As a result it doesn't do well at higher speeds. The Be-200 has a quite low minimum speed of about 150 km/h. On the other hand it's top speeds are more than twice that of it's turbo-prop colleagues - unless the fire is directly near a lake, a high top speed can save traveling time, and thus allow for more frequent drops.
Love it. They should produce a luxury business jet variant for the western market, it would be the ultimate boy toy. If you had a coastal (or large lake-side) home you could park it right outside your house.
Can't find the info on specific modifications they made to the engine, but the manufacturer claims it was certified for salt water specifically. Modified model is D-436TP
Perfect plane for a purpose. Trouble is water fire fighters can only afford 3rd hand aircraft. They never buy new so could never afford this wonderful machine. Everything comes down to cost but when the day dawns that a Government will pay for new aircraft for fire-fighting services this will be first on the list. Nice one, Beriev.
I think a lot of people are missing the point. A normal jet needs a lot of land for runways and a normal seaplane needs an extensive dock network. This aircraft only needs a terminal for loading and unloading and a boat ramp. The benefit to small island nations is enormous as it frees up the land normally needed for runways. The ocean around the island is now the runway. Have a look at Pacific Island nations to see how much space they waste right now. Some islands are half runway.
@valevrik Very good points, very good. I must admit that I was thinking totally from the POV of efficient use of land space on small islands and not the fuel efficiency part. I wonder how a turboprop version would go as an airliner?
This is an amazing plane wish I can fly on one of them before I die and the song is just as fascinating. Almost like a dream good combination song and plan great taste
I won't argue with that. Helicopters do have their advantages and planes have theirs: The Mi-26 can rescue ppl while the BE-200 can get to a lake which is 50 kms away and back in just under 9 minutes.
We the humans are awesome, I love how our imagination goes beyond from simple to extra-ordinary. Peace To all the world.!!!

OK that's just cool, I'm sure it's fitted with stainless steel gear, we need some here on the left coast. Bet it hauls 20-30 tons of water and it looks like the engines are high enough, if it flies as good as it looks they have a real winner here, congrats.

Viacheslav Kalashnikoff 10 самолетов они уже купили.
Yes 4 of CL215 were sold to Greece back in 90s, but far as i know one CL215 passed to Croatia, Yugoslavia had 5 in total.
||nah ini cocok di beli presiden Jokowi buat sikat maling ikan di laut Indonesia
buat kandang kepiting juga bagus ko
Huahaha

In Russia there are talented people and there is very bad political system.

Nice Dog...
Fantastic airplane!! I like the center joystick controls.
aerokane !cool!
lmaooo that duck at 0.28 just ducked like it's not gonna get sucked into the engines
Best for California fires!
Fantastic, she performs brilliantly and even looks great, very effective machine
Три раза смотрел!!! Автор спасибо!!!
Reminds me of the majestic WWII era Catalina,
Nice Video, When get my I tropical island lair, in a hollowed out extinct volcano, this will be my personal transport,
@garandguy000
Yeah, you raise some good points I was pondering too. And you have the Pacific Ocean as well for wildfires within say 100-200 miles of the coast.
nice show would have liked to be there and see this. thank you so much for posting.
I want one for my personal aircraft. BTW, love the music.
Good point, Suyamu!
Love it. They should produce a luxury business jet variant for the western market, it would be the ultimate boy toy. If you had a coastal (or large lake-side) home you could park it right outside your house.
Великолепно,красиво,функционально.
Can't find the info on specific modifications they made to the engine, but the manufacturer claims it was certified for salt water specifically. Modified model is D-436TP
@halnwheels
its a firefighting plane.. so its one of those few airplains that benefits from this capability...
Cool, I've never been in a sea plane, would love to try it.
I didn't know such a thing existed. It makes a Canadair 215 look like a toy. The USSR/Russia have such cool aircraft designs!
Larger distance between useable water sources and fires need a faster plane.
Я был на одном таком шоу в День Воздушного Флота России, это в Геленджике, очень впечатлило! Слава российской авиации, слава России!
mantab itu pesawat untuk indonesia cocok banget...sebagai negara yang lautnya sangat luas....
That's pretty badass. Seems like it would be a great plane to use for air sea rescue.
What a spectacular looking aircraft; a very smart design. Great job Russia on drawing and building that!
Bet it hauls 20-30 tons of water and it looks like the engines are high enough, if it flies as good as it looks they have a real winner here, congrats.
nice picture. Very nice. And music is gorgeous
Arguably a triumph of engineering and technology, well done. Although at 1:27 it's a bit let down by the cooling fans on top of the instrument panel.
It seems that this plan can do a flyby and catch water just like the Bombardier CL415. Interesting indeed.
Designed as a firefighter and has been used as one since 2006 or so.
Quite efficient to be able to collect water without having to stop, nice firefighting machine!
Cool Plane !!!
Major Fire Fighting Capabilities!
Name of the song?
