Learning a new language is hard, eh? I'm sure there are some mistakes that I haven't picked up on, so please help me out by correcting me in the comments below! Also, let me know, are you guys learning any new languages?

      @@Guresu Where and how did you learn Cantonese? Your tone is so good that if you speak faster, you will be not much different than a native Cantonese speaker. Oh...just found your other video "
      HOW TO LEARN CANTONESE" I was thinking you must have a Cantonese speaking parent of something. You are amazing!

    Wow, your Cantonese is excellent. Your tone is most impressive. That is a lot of hard work and dedication you put into learning a language that is completely different. I came to the US from Hong Kong went I was eight. Most of our relatives spoke Toisanese here. We also use different words and call things differently. Maybe is a regional thing?

    • @Guresu
      @Guresu  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh wow, before your comment I had never heard of Toisanese. It must be a regional thing, a sort of dialect.

    Possibly one of the best Cantonese accents from someone actually learning it that i've seen online! Your accent I feel is very on point compared to say many white speakers and I wonder if it's due to maybe your native accent or maybe you've picked it up super well!!!

    Your Cantonese is marvellous! As a Canto native speaker, I can't even maintain a conversation as long as this without the help of English terms. Yours is a lot better than mine. We don't even realise we're switching between writing words and speaking words. Thanks for reminding us how beautiful our language is. Well done and ga yau!

    Speaking as a native Canto (HK) speaker, you have definitely found passion in the right language!! Canto may sound a little rough compared to Mandarin but it offers a much wider range in terms of usage, effectiveness to express emotions and simply so much more fun!! I applaud you for promoting this awesome language on your channel!! Means a lot to me!

    If you want to say you want to restart your Cantonese studies, you can say ngo5 seong2 hoi1 ci2 FAAN1 hok6 gwong2 dung1 wa2. If you put faan1 after a verb it would indicate that you’re starting to do that action after a while of not doing it.

    I speak cantonese and I think your cantonese is good (you have a fairly good accent by the way). Of course there’s still a big room for improvement, but I’m sure you’re going to make it.
    You are right about the fact that cantonese learning materials are more limited compared to mandarin materials.

  • @grammarnazi12
    @grammarnazi12 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your Cantonese is amazing! I think what makes your Cantonese stand out is how on point your pronunciation is; I find that people tend to focus on vocab over pronunciation, especially for tonal languages like Chinese (probably because tones are hard to get right, and also most native speakers can still understand you with the wrong tones). But I find that if you actually want to sound native, it is very important to be disciplined to force yourself to learn the tones properly from the get-go, otherwise you get used to saying the words with the wrong tones and then you will always have a foreign accent when you speak Chinese.
    One thing I noticed is that when you say "I want to learn Chinese again", you usually said 我想再學廣東話. This is grammatically correct, but if you want to sound more natural, a native speaker will usually say 我想再學"返"廣東話. (Sorry I don't know jyutping so I'm just going to guess the sounds haha... basically add "faan" between "hok' and "gwong dong wa").

    • @kevinkmhui
      @kevinkmhui 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Guresu Not exactly. 國語 is the language that Taiwan use, while 普通話 is the language that Mainland China use. 國語 sounds softer than 普通話

    • @never4ever386
      @never4ever386 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kevinkmhui Nonsense! 國語 and 普通話 mean the same thing and are the same language being Mandarin. Though people in mainland China tend to use the term 普通話 whilst those outside tend to say 國語 but it’s becoming more interchangeable. People in Taiwan just just speak mandarin with a different accent. Even the mandarin spoken in northern, middle or southern China are done so with different accents too.

    Wow ... awesome, you grasp the tones so accurately!
    The rhythm and the use of words are also stunning!
    I'd like to give you a suggestion if you want to sound more like a native speaker.
    You can learn more about the final particles.
    You've already got some, like the 'la' at the end of your sentences.
    There're still so many particles like that.
    I know this is going to be much harder than the tones
    because not many books would mention this part.
    Maybe you can watch some TH-camrs from Hong Kong.
    Listen to their conservation.
    Pick up the final particles when you can understand most of their sentences.
    Some particles have just subtle differences
    but they can change the meaning of a whole sentence.
    Add oil~~~

      Thank you for your comment! Yeah, when I watch HK dramas and stuff, I notice that people use particles quite often but I just don’t really use them because I’m scared that I’ll use them inaccurately. But I’ll try and add them to my sentences and see what happens. Thank you!

      I hate it when ppl add it to the end of a sentence in English 🙄
