The fact that its proof you dont need hundreds of thousands of dollars to build a dream. Just a garage basic tools and whole lot of imagination. As someone on a tight budget this is the stuff that pushes me to try harder at completing my dreams.
How could you not love this car. Home built hot rods like this are amazing. The amount of time and thought in this build is top notch. Plus he knows every millimeter of it. Love it!
Honestly out of all the cars that have shown up at the Hoonigans over the years, this one has always just pop back into my mind. I am not sure what it is but this car just always stands out amongst the rest of the cars that show up
Same here, I think because a lot of us had that "highschool car" with awesome plans for it; and seeing this car makes us think that it's not just a pipe dream ❤️
I sold Chrysler's at McPeek Chrysler from 84- 89 and these were by far the best cars on the sales floor. In 87 they came out with the TSI intercooler with ground effects, suspension/wheel upgrades and more. The engine was the hemi 2.8 liter Mitsubishi (basically like the 70's Dodge Challenger made by Mitsu) The price was at 20k. Nice 5 sp. RWD. The somehow caught a hard-angle -924to928-jap-appearance. Around 1996 l was selling Chevys and a dude traded a beautiful white onevin for a vet. He had put some mods and spent over 20k on the car and they allowed $500as a trade. He didn't care as he was getting a Z06 for 50k. I bought the Conquest out of the deal. I wish l still had it. But, after 3 years l sold it for 5k. Fun car.

Lol right 🤣🤣🤣 I was like what??? That makes absolutely no sense at all 😭😭💀💯 but then I put 2 and 2 together and realized he meant to say "why buy something for $400 when you can make it for $10"
Yeah I know what you mean. I've got an 87 with a blown motor(getting a 347 sbf) and an 89 with the notorious electrical gremlins I'm fighting with cause the harness is so old.
Conquests have always had a special place in my heart, after having one in high school. This build is the best I have ever seen, by far! Makes me want to start looking for a conquest again
I remember the first time you guys had this car, and I was impressed. But hearing that the back brake caliper was actually a trophy he won for the build, is priceless...…. #builtnotbought2damax
I said it before on his first time at the garage, and I'll say it again now, this is probably my favorite build you've had on the show. A lot of people make their own stuff, but this guy has literally built everything that he wasn't legally obligated to have made from someone else. The car looks amazing, sounds amazing, and he abuses the shit out of it and doesn't trailer it around. 11/10
When he said "it's impossible to find parts" I felt that. But hearing him speak about all the things he personally made and the detail he knows that car inside and out is something special. Props and phenominal build.
I'm wondering how many of those had be chosen to be built in the first place. You build it up to a point where it's a representation of a car. It's a full build in the owners eyes of what could've been. I love it.
One of the best build bios ever, loved this video, it's just completely different when you have a car made 100% by the owner, they just know every little detail of how it drives and how it's built, it's amazing.
John's car is a work of art. I have been following his build since around 2010. This car will always be a monument to the heritage of DIY built racecars.
I was so psyched to see this! I commented on the original video that it should be here for a build biology & here it is! My favorite thing about this car has got to be all the detail.. I mean this guy has thought of EVERYTHING & that makes it even sicker to me!
This guy's Conquest is the entire inspiration behind my Mk2 Golf. If was just meant to be a fun road car, then I seen how he made his interior so simple and beautiful and I made my own Aluminium dash shaped and modelled almost exactly like his. He should be the poster boy for home builds.
When you literally put heart and soul into a car that you love. What could be better. I’ve seen this car so many time with different setups and each time is gets better. 🔥
My sister came home year’s back with. 1988 Chrysler Conquest TSI red with black interior. I was about 9 and that was the start of my love for cars, she had mustangs and everything else but conquest was killer. Loved them ever since and Porsche 944s. My dad passed when I was young so lucky to have a cool older sister who was into cars.
This is still one of my top 5 favorite vehicles ever. I will never forget this thing, the first time i saw it was on his one take. Its perfect. I love it. And the guy who made it is awesome. I think similar ways so this is GOLD for my OCD, to hear his thoughts behind it all lol
By far the grestest Conquest/ Starion every built! John only sets the bar higher every year with his highschool dream car. I know John personally and is just as humble in person. Keep up do you John. And Hoonigan keep bringing John's Conqueat back!!!!
I shudder to think "how much" I have in ANY project, when you look at your own time @ $100/hr. Important calculation to keep track of, doe... Awesome build. Thanks for the full details. Seriously impressive home-grown engineering that works.
Glad you came back to do a build bio on this car John! I have loved this thing ever since i was on SQC and you started building it many years ago. And true about finding parts. When stuff goes wrong on these cars you better have a stock pile of spares. Not so much the motor but all the stupid little things(that you don't have anymore) like vac solenoids.
The absolute BADDEST STARION/ CONQUEST IN THE LAND! John has an unrelentless commitment to hand building everything on this car. The best part is that it actually sees action at the track. I was at his last track event, people can't believe he drove it there!😆
Other than Ol Smokey this is probably my favorite car I've seen on here. Probably because if I were to dive into building cars, this is exactly how I'd be. Always tweaking, always changing, always making it better.
Really loved this car when you guys first had it I'm glad you brought it back with more details. Hes put so much into that car it's cool seeing more of it. Still feel like build bios could be even longer lol don't hold back!! We want to see it all!
This car is timeless the stylings on this car is even better than some of the most modern cars, definitely ahead of its time I’m just saying perhaps I’m bias because I had the pleasure of having one of these cars. first car I ever bought from a dealer.
I really love how this thing basically almost looks like Van Halen's guitar and the guy just died and one of my first memories is shifting gears to Van Halen
My dad made me shift gears in a starion when I was five.cell phones were starting to gain prominence in the late 90s and he still had his car from the late 80s which was a stick shift.so he would handle the clutch and driving and steering the car and I would handle the stick shift
The money race teams put into a program to come up with what this man has done in his home garage. The thought and forward thinking on this car still amazes me to this day. It’s a toss up between this and Old Smokey on my favorite build to have come come through
It’s amazing to see proper aerodynamics on a home brew race car! Those Venturi tunnels under the car are so important for the diffuser to work. I would love to see the car in a wind tunnel
thats the REAL racer, and a REAL car guy. built from scratch on his own. its amazing! if he were smart he would figure out how to mass produce all the parts on that car and get rich building it. its crazy how many of these cars are still on the road and being sold/purchased. ive always liked these cars, and would love to build one someday...when all my other projects get done....

Every car from the hoonigans is a track smashing masterpiece...when they work 😂😂
True 😂
We smash the track one way or another, it just depends what your definition of smash is.

This guy and his car is an absolute legend.
Didn't think I'd ever be jealous of a Starion... I can see why he's so proud of it, with how much work he's put into it.
No doubt. One of the coolest transitions and editing channels on TH-cam. Keep up the work guys. Great content!!!!!!!!! My favorite channel for sure.
