I think it's funny how he discourages opening packs in the end of the video. It's like smoking crack in front of children and then 15 minutes later telling them not to do drugs.
1 of the main reasons I love this channel is the music selection. I had to watch the video twice because on my first viewing the music put me to sleep and I woke up halfway through box two. Keep up the good work Professor, and keep up the great music.
my first thought when I saw this was you lied to wedge!!! I was told no booster box game for ETM! but still happy you made it past the first box, loved the bloopers at the end!
I always get so excited for these videos, thank you for filling my pack-cracking fix for the next like two months professor. Now I can be responsible and just draft.
+Sethsters 91 I've seen alot of boxes fall way short of even msrp, a set like this I would expect the value of the set to stay high for a few weeks. It's 110% not a good idea to put any money into boxes if you have to get one or more of the big 6 cards to break even or make a few bucks.
If you go to mtggoldfish, the author Saffron Olive does a great job explaining Expected Value of boxes. Wizards purposely makes sure no boxes are ever worth more than MSRP on average, and the EV (Expected Value of Eternal Masters was $200 before printing even began). Right now it will be a little lower, and since EMA is out of print already it will rebound quickly, but as it rebounds people will charge more and more for the limited boxes that are available. Hence the reason to never open sealed product and only buy singles.
At 12:40 you went from displaying 3 uncommons to another 3 uncommons. I'm curious if that was an error or there was something omitted so you would miss the $280 mark.
The real value for playing the booster box game is all the pauper decks you can make now! I saw quite a few Rancors for Stompy, and there are so many elves... :)
I played the booster box game for Eternal Masters, got a Karakas, Jace, Mana Crypt and a Senseis Divining Top, and a foil Relic of Progenitus. Could probably look through and find more cards of value but I bought the box with the idea of keeping all of the cards to build more commander decks in the future.
I agree with you professor. Buy single you need. It's my #1 rule. I use to buy booster boxes, but it is mush more fun to spend to money on the good cards you need to make my decks better.
I've had an idea, Professor. When you open the first box, you put that up as a video, then at the end tell us if you got enough to sell for a second box, then put up a separate video for each subsequent box. For example, I looked at the time of this video and the date it was posted and guessed that you opened the number of boxes that you did. That would keep an air of mystery and suspense about the whole game!
OH I really like that idea, Booster Box Game Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 etc. and we never know if you make it to another box just by looking at title/date/length of the video.
love this set drafted twice now have a Jace, Sylvan library, chrome mox, and bunch of stuff in the $2-$10 range that should rebound once the set is off the shelves. The set is definitely well designed for drafting with one exception what is the point of infinite worldgorger mana combo without a mana sink like a fireball to take advantage.
Chidon0 with the life gain lands? you can also do infinite damage with a Keldon Marauder but that doesn't actually count as a mana sink to do something with the infinite mana that you can produce with animate dead world gorger dragon
TH-cam recommended this to me again... The prices on SO MANY of these cards have plummeted. The only ones I saw go up were Chrome Mox from $15 to $90, Mystical Tutor from $6 to $9, Sensi's Divining Top from $22 to $26, Winter Orb from $4 to $8, and Enlightened Tutor from $9 to $21. And frankly, Chrome Mox and Enlightened tutor are the only two to drastically chance.
Pretty pleased with the box my friends and I opened. We're holding on to half for another guy, but from 12 packs we got Jace, Karakas, Dack Fayden, and, in one pack, Sensei's Divining Top and foil Mana Crypt! Very pleased :D
Hey guys sorry for bothering. I know that the titles of most of the songs used throughout the video are displayed in the description yet the one being played towards the end of the booster opening is not. I am sorry for bothering but I would appreciate it greatly if somebody could tell me the name of the song that sounds a bit like a rap theme (the last song being played)! Thanks in advance :)
I like how the professor is doing this series to showcase the gambling factor of buying a booster box, and yet every single time he opens the best first box possible and a few average quality boxes. It really motivates me to buy boxes watching these videos. I understand the risk, but the rewards are just too good to not try it :)
Looking back, some of the prices here compared to nowadays are just wild. Chrome Mox at $15, Ashnod's Atar under $3, Sensei's Divining Top barely breaking past $20... Buying just one copy of each nowadays is easily anywhere from $120-$150. Miss the good ole' days...
Hi professor So far most of the time when you are opening boxes you seem to get the better of the booster box. Sometimes opening up to 4 before you lose out. So by chances when opening a booster box with just one seems to have a better value over singles. when i view your booster box game, i tend to get more inspired by buying a booster box thinking i could get some of your luck. :)
You did better than I did. While I did get a Sneak Attack everything else were valued at under $2.00. All in all my box was valued at under $80.00. Now I know when you buy a box the chances of breaking even is pretty low but between what I paid for to what I pulled Eternal Master let me down the most. After loosing a little over $200.00 of value it has soured me on buy boxes, at least for a while.
Dear Professor, the Booster Box game seems really fun and it's pretty inventive, so I would play it, but I don't want to sell the cards, so I won't. Anyway, thank you for delivering quality content and informative videos.
I had been thinking of what "alternative" land to the life lands they could have printed that A: are common or uncommon, B: haven't been printed in a long time, and C: possibly have no foil version of them, and D: see some play in legacy, and I thought of it, and it dawned on me, what about the Fallen Empires double mana sac lands, those might actually see some play in certain combo decks and haven't been printed in a long time and to my knowledge aren't any foil versions of the card.
One of my favorite things about this set, I think Burn will be played a LOOT more in pauper with the chain lightning reprint. I'm happy with my G stompy deck though. Rancor is too sweet.
What people are forgetting is that this set made a bunch of legacy and commander staples much cheaper, such as cabal therapy, which was 12.00 before this set came out. I would say it absolutely succeeded in that.
Even tho it's sad not to get at least the price you paid for such an expensive product, I'm happy to see the prices drop so fast. People will be able to buy the singles they need and I think in that way the set succeeds to give us the opportunity to get cards that would've been too pricy otherwise. Great video ! And god did that Worldgorger Dragon hurted lol.
I need token creatures for Blue and Green Decks. So far I haven't found any boxes with sufficient amounts of them. Except for Wizards of the Coast decks and people seem to not like those folks. The only cards I want from these boxes are Tharmogoyf, Elephant Guide, and Bestial Menace.
Professor, I would like to know if you are going to review the new dragon shields? I saw the clear matte ones and thought they would be strange yet cool. Replying to me would make my day too :)
well, with the reprints on their price-low right now, i think even with a fairly bad box you still get a good value... not guaranteed of course, but with a good chance! Nice booster box game!
No, it's $10. There's tons selling for $10, NM, on TCGPlayer and so that's all I can sell mine for. If I list it at $30, it won't sell. I need to actually recoup my money from this.
Traded my Foil 'Pyro'blast on Pucatrade for 4999pp ($49.99). Also, bought two boxes, both below MSRP from two LGS' with a total current value in cards opened (using the prof's method) of over $800. No worldgorger!
In my first and only EMA pack that I cracked just for fun after a Commander tournament in my LGS, I opened a young pyro, blood artist, Ichorid....and MANA CRYPT FOIL. Best 12€ spent on a pack!
dude those are some epic pulls. id buy a box but im to afraid of getting poop that i dont take the risk. also for me booster boxes are about busting slabs so id rather get a box of BFZ where there are lots of packs to open. in addition u have the great chance of pulling an expedition so the box keeps you own your toes. keep the content coming because ill be around waiting for it.
Hey professor, I had an interesting thought a while ago about a video you could do. lately Ive been looking at the card Keranos, God of Storms, and I thought he'd be a great commander you could do a tech on. I know from watching your previous commander videos that you like subtle commanders, such as Anawon and Sygg; or non-commander-oriented strategies: with the exception of scion of the ur Dragon. Keranos is a great control commander; he can be a draw engine, a piece of removal, or if you're lucky, a finisher due to his body! And I know your videos take time, but I would love to see your take on a keranos deck.
lmfaoo i was about to comment "aw im sorry man your box was a bust, hope you got more out of another later on" then i saw mana crypt foil wasteland. NEVERMIND! your second box really wasn't that bad. of course you're only looking at 3+ dollar cards for your value, as you're selling your cards. but as a collector who just wants access to a bunch of cards that are otherwise hard to come across, or someone who just likes cracking packs, you totally got your value. if you add up those 1-2 dollar cards, you did pretty good. you didn't even lose all that much to be frank. you could've got around 240-250 for the second box, then all those commons, uncommons, junkier rares, and junkier foils only cost you a whopping 30-40 bucks, which is pretty decent. i have yet to see anybody lose more than maybe 40 bucks on a box so i'd say if you want to buy boosters, this is a decent set to do so. fun note, i pulled a foil top in my box, and a karakas, regular top, wasteland... so i know how it is to get all your money in a handful of cards.
Could you do layover for your boxes? As in as you saw the first box went far above the price of a new one. What if you use some of THAT money for a box that didn't get quite enough?
it looked like some of the cards were faded. I know that doesn't really impact prices on tcgplayer, but the brainstorm that was faded could be worth a little more.
We were noticing that at our LGS. One of the players in my pod on release night picked up an almost grayscale Daze. I wonder how common this issue is in the set.
I think it's funny how he discourages opening packs in the end of the video. It's like smoking crack in front of children and then 15 minutes later telling them not to do drugs.
Except this is mostly harmless unlike your example
yeah but it's still weird
He's not joking. It's true that opening packs is not worth it unless you enjoy opening them.

Bloopers are awesome!

Moaaaaaaar outtakes. Those were AWESOME!
I love the bloopers at the end its cool to see that your extending the video with more than just loose pack openings
1 of the main reasons I love this channel is the music selection. I had to watch the video twice because on my first viewing the music put me to sleep and I woke up halfway through box two. Keep up the good work Professor, and keep up the great music.
Definitely should include more bloopers in the videos to come! They are fantastic!
If this Magic thing doesn't work out, you could always open a Honden dealership.
I'll show myself out.
my first thought when I saw this was you lied to wedge!!! I was told no booster box game for ETM! but still happy you made it past the first box, loved the bloopers at the end!
The outtakes were amazing, a glimpse into how the Professor aids his guests with memory of their lines through repetition!
These videos are bizarrely satisfying and relaxing to watch, one of the many reasons why i love this channel
I love the bloopers at the end! "I WANT TENURE SO BAD!"
I always get so excited for these videos, thank you for filling my pack-cracking fix for the next like two months professor. Now I can be responsible and just draft.
I really can't believe how hard this set fell so fast. didn't even make it a week.
What do you mean?

Love the Olivia bloopers!
That blooper bit was gold. Keep up the videos and hope that manacript is to your liking!
Sprankles (even as Olivia) = 10/10 would date. So pretty and seems very sweet. Best MTG cosplayer
Nooo the wasted draft!
he could always make a cube with the commons
thats really expensive jeez
Thats way too many commons/uncommons. Unless you're planning to have a 29 person draft.
You can repackage them and draft them. A little immagination.
Good pulls for the beginning!!!!
subscribed because of your Mtg deck box case video! ended up getting the piratelab case and I love it! Love the vids, keep em coming good sir.

I bought my Vindicate, Eight-and-a-Half-Tails, and Blood Artist playsets three months ago, and watching these prices hurts a little now lol
That Mana Crypt carry. Fun vid, Prof!

Gotta love that the Box goes up in price while the cards inside go down. More proof that buying singles is the best way to get what you want.
I didn't want to buy a box of this set but I'm super glad that most of the chase cards came down enough for me to pick up.

Omg i was waiting for this video thank you!

You did better than I did. While I did get a Sneak Attack everything else were valued at under $2.00. All in all my box was valued at under $80.00. maybe add the number of opened boosters to a corner so we can keep track?
I had been thinking of what "alternative" land to the life lands they could have printed that A: are common or uncommon, B: haven't been printed in a long time, and C: possibly have no foil version of them, and D: see some play in legacy, and I thought of it, and it dawned on me, what about the Fallen Empires double mana sac lands, those might actually see some play in certain combo decks and haven't been printed in a long time and to my knowledge aren't any foil versions of the card.

Oh, and this blooper made my day.

was there not a rare OR foil in that pack
I didn't realize that Ashnod's Altar had dropped so low. Time to order a few copies for my EDH decks.
Not gonna lie, they nailed the commons and uncommons in this set
Hey,
I would love to see a live counter for the number of boosters you have already opened (of the current booster box).
that sinkhole was foil, that dack is more and the vindicate is really worth more
Professor, I would like to know if you are going to review the new dragon shields? I saw the clear matte ones and thought they would be strange yet cool. Replying to me would make my day too :)
Testing them as we speak! I'll give you a spoiler: I like.
Awesome! Can't wait to see them.
i dont watch much of your other content, but why are these im sucked in to watch i can't be sure but keep doing it love it!
Thanks for the advice professor on everything MTG you should do a deck tech over grixis control on budget
I feel its worth noting that many of the cards in this set are great for commander even the jank.
love this professor keep it up
17:29 -- did you "peak" at the timecode?
I scored my box on release day for MSRP from Game ON! :)
MY BOX WAS SICK!!!! FOIL NATURAL ORDER / MANA CRYPT / TOP / SINKHOLE / CHROME MOX / DACK / AND SO MUCH MORE!!! Eternal masters I love it!
well, with the reprints on their price-low right now, i think even with a fairly bad box you still get a good value... not guaranteed of course, but with a good chance! Nice booster box game!
Did you happen to notice how the brainstorms and daze that you pulled were misprints, they were off-color
That foil'd Hydroblast you pulled was $30, not $10.
No, it's $10. There's tons selling for $10, NM, on TCGPlayer and so that's all I can sell mine for. If I list it at $30, it won't sell. I need to actually recoup my money from this.

It's a pity there's so little print of this set. It looks like it would be a fun draft :(
Super fun draft! You just can't draft it. Catch 22.
nice, gotta love how magic creates ingenuity once you have a few friends or someone to read on the internet should you solitaire.
I guess I'm lucky, I managed to pick up a box today from my LGS for 235. in Monterey. Yeah. Was the last one though.
I love how much some of the cards dropped in price from the first box being opened to the 2nd hehe.
In my first and only EMA pack that I cracked just for fun after a Commander tournament in my LGS, I opened a young pyro, blood artist, Ichorid....and MANA CRYPT FOIL.

i have yet to see anybody lose more than maybe 40 bucks on a box so i'd say if you want to buy boosters, this is a decent set to do so.
fun note, i pulled a foil top in my box, and a karakas, regular top, wasteland... so i know how it is to get all your money in a handful of cards.

We were noticing that at our LGS. One of the players in my pod on release night picked up an almost grayscale Daze. I wonder how common this issue is in the set.
