    Thanks for this, between your video on frame data and DashFight’s great MK1 guides and resources, since I plan on using Reptile as my main as I’ve always liked the character and his moves but, to me this is far and away the most fun version of the character in the modern MK games, even more so than MKXL which casually I had a lot of fun with that version too.

    Mortal Kombat is a very complex game where frame data plays a huge roll. I come from games like SF, KOF, and Guilty gear where frame data mattered very little cause it was all so easy to understand but in MK you need this info or you will be lost

    I’ve been watching your videos since MK1 came out and I must say I really enjoy your content. It’s very easy to understand and also your play style is all around honorable.
    I understand frame data much better after watching your videos. I am wondering if you can take a look into Geras’ move list and frame data. I Know I’m not a pro or anything, but it seems like Geras’ has no real way to deal with pressure other than counter poking or using his armor move, but then his armor moves range is so bad that sometimes the pushback from the other characters make it whiff then causing me to get punished. Has has 7 frame and 9 frame moves but the range is so bad as well and they are highs. His best mid is 16 frames and gets blocked every time I try to take my turn, and this the range of his other mid is so small I have to be right up on them to make anything work, but again the push back from other characters makes me get punished for trying to take my turn back. I like playing him cause he’s fun, but right now I’m struggling.

    I already know this, thanks in part to a video from you about IJ2, in fact. But hey. My little view helps the channel.
    By the way, among the many things this game unfortunately doesn't have, I really liked being able to turn the HUD off in practice mode. I can hardly see anyways so I don't mind it. And now they added accessibility audio cues. In SF6 is like that too, so I play without interphase. And then forget to turn it on and my friends complain when they come over to play, lol.
    Hugs Dink, I am enjoying MK1 a lot :)

    Thanks for these guides! Understanding this game more and more and was just in an online match with my main Li Mei and going against a sub zero.. was able to hold my own a little bit but he kept getting me with the ice slide into spear then using the ice ball and chain combo over and over and won .. but I’m glad I know how to better prepare.. I’m using Sektor a lot as my kameo and really like them together, but feeling like I may have to go Frost to even the playing field against the smokes, raidens, and subs online to get some time to react .. some matches I’m just watching them for 10 seconds or more 😂🫡🐉😂📺👑🎞️✍️

    Let's say the opponent uses a really fast attack which is also positive on block. Like a jab with a start-up of 7 frames and a block advantage of +2.
    If the opponent keeps spamming this same move, it means I will never get my turn back and automatically lose the match, correct?

    6 months later but I have a question. When I do down 1 and it lands I have a 12 frame advantage, yet when I try to do a move that is quicker than 12 frames it still doesn’t hit the opponent and they can block it. Why is that?

    • @shujinkydink

      only combo strings combo into themselves, NRS does this different from other fighting games. unless you launch into the air the opponent can block after getting hit, you have the frame advantage to pressure however

    I may be incredibly ignorant in suggesting this - but I feel in general, learning frame date is a waste of your time (but yes, I'm still in pursuit of understanding the concept)..
    Yes, it only helps if you're competing at high levels, but you can still get very far - certainly far enough as a casual, by just learning the game via trial and error. I'm beginning to pressure myself into learning and understanding frame data, and I'm having a rough time because at the end of the day, I probably don't NEED to be spending the amount of time I already spend playing these fighting games, and I've done quite well at MK1 and Tekken 8 without any knowledge of frame data whatsoever.
    I've landed on the leaderboards and in MK1 in particular I always ride the line between God and Eldergod (the 1st and 2nd best ranks), and I want to get better! So I look to frame data and I'm like yeah, okay, but this is the difference between having something I already know from experience being explained to me in technical terms, and learning these things via experience playing the game for hundreds of hours.
    Of course, knowing frame data never hurts, but is watching videos like this really going to help the casual player more than actually playing the game?
    I feel like this is something you could use when playing professionally, but in order for it to be truly useful you'd already have to be invested in the game to nearly unhealthy levels. I know from experience, because here I am trying to learn this stuff, but it also leaves me scratching my head, with the knowledge I will still beat the vast majority of people who watch videos like this, simply from having played the game more.
    Then games like SF6 come along, almost suggesting people re-learn these concepts and at that point every game makes it's own rules, and is it really practical for casual players to sit down with a pen and paper to learn all this? My guess is no. This knowledge will only be put to use by the top 1% of players. Everyone else would be better off simply playing the game.
    Maybe I'm just frustrated trying to grasp these concepts, but I could also just watch videos on TH-cam that SHOW me when to punish certain characters after certain moves, without knowing the numbers for everything.
    So is frame data today, with what we can learn from actually watching TH-cam tutorials, still relevant? And it might be!
    But I'm trying to understand why..

    • @shujinkydink
      @shujinkydink  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Frame data is exactly what you mentioned, showing you exactly how to punish moves by giving you the knowledge on how to see that. It is incredibly useful at any level of play. You don't need to memorize all the frame data, but use it to find situations. To understand why your uppercut will punish scorpions teleport. Definitely worth the time sink

    • @neoconnor4395
      @neoconnor4395 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@shujinkydink Thx for responding. That's why I'm here, but it is frustrating at times.. because I can do so well in other ranks, but why can't I get to Eldergod? It's my punishes, but again, is knowing frame data as effective as just watching videos that show you how to punish specific moves (without the data)? I mean, wouldn't it be intuitive of me to just always go to the jab as my 'go to' punish-combo starter? Or a poke?

    • @neoconnor4395
      @neoconnor4395 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@shujinkydink I guess I'm seeking any life hacks available for understanding how the meta of knowing these things works beyond common sense I.E. using faster moves to counter slower moves.

    • @shujinkydink
      @shujinkydink  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@neoconnor4395 jab punish is good for consistency and a good all around go too. But there are times when starting a punish with a slower move will net you significantly more damage due to a different combo route or kameo. So knowing exactly how to pinpoint this situations is nothing but beneficial. Depending on how casual you are/aren't might depend how much you want to dive into the topic. You can definitely still win without it, but you'll be optimized with it. There's definitely no down side to learning it either way

    • @neoconnor4395
      @neoconnor4395 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @shujinkydink Yeah, I mean ultimately you're right - if you wanna get better frame data is only going to help. I think, context, like the convo in this thread is what I'm seeking more than anything. The road to eldergod is a slow grueling process, and it's frustrating that my instincts will get me SO far, but not all the way..
      Fun fact: GSP, arguably the greatest MMA fighter of all time, USES frame data for his real life professional fights. I thought that was telling.
