    That's my favourite movie! I once watched it when I was 5 or 6 years old and remembered every bit of it, since it was on free TV I couldn't remember the name. So I spent the next 8 years actively searching for the movie. I finally found it casually browsing the TV channels and it was running on some random channel, I watched till the end and wrote down the actor names and the movie name. Well now it's 2023 and I watched it 327 times since 2002. gosh I love this movie.

    Watching this in 2024 as "computers learning to learn" is actually was scarier (and way more corporate driven) than we thought it'd be...

      You do know they've been doing that since the 50s, right? Of course you don't. No one bothered to look at what cutting edge AI was doing till someone decided to run image recognishoin backwards to make them draw.

    • @michaels.3709
      @michaels.3709 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MeepChangeling The problem with AI in the 50s was computer power. Current transformers require Gigabytes of memory to be trained with any reasonable speed. You're right that I'm not aware of the kinds of research done in the 50s because (a) I wasn't there and (b) I'm not in that field. So it's hardly fair to imply that this ignorance is somehow a personal failure of due diligence. I will say, though, that it's pretty incredible to go and look up information about modern ML algorithms and find a paper from 1952 describing the exact mechanism you were looking for. Modern ML and AI research is generating some new ideas, but a lot of it is just rediscovering ideas developed over half a century ago.

      WarGames: The Dead Code really wasn't a sequel, it was a cash grab by MGM with a Direct to DVD release. It wasn't produced, written, directed or starred in by anyone connected to the first movie. The literal only connection it had was the title, the studio and a lame attempt at re-hashing the original plot from the '83 film 25 years later.
