- This video shows the importance of always using the correct parts and following your manuals recommendations when working on your motorcycle . Especially if you are a rookie backyard mechanic as its easy to miss some of the subtle nuances that may be very important .
Lots of unusual washers and fasteners in old Brit bikes, thin, thick, tensile strength variations. Often very little information describing them in the parts books like your experience it just looks like a regular washer or fitment but no…….! I really liked your comment about pay attention to the part that you’re taking off really examine what you remove and do not get rid of it until you have replaced it successfully someone named me learned that lesson the hard way.
@thomasrose7713 Yes sir I think it's one of those lessons we have to learn the hard way .At least, that's how it was for me .But it sticks better thats for sure . Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave such a great comment. Cheers 🍻
Bigfoot is real. I’ve seen Harry and the Hendersons!
Seriously, every time you post. I learn something new. Thanks for dropping wisdom bombs on us. And FYI, your DRZ oil change video is the best one on TH-cam. 💪🏼
@linksgarage1985 Hey thanks man I really appreciate your always kind words .
Surprised you spotted the Bigfoot reference. Most people don't stick around past the end of the main video .
Also thanks for your props on the oil change video it actually means a lot coming from a DRZ expert like yourself.
Cheers to you, good sir 👍
@@TRyanLearnBikes I watch from start to finish!
@linksgarage1985 Thats great .Thanks man .
There's a fine line between using and not using OEM parts and I dont often use them, except in mission critical areas. Sometimes it's a case of buy once, cry once.
As for the manual, I have one for every bike.
@gonegliding2966 Well said , You've stated the case perfectly 👌. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment.
Cheers 🍻
I agree 100 percent about OEM parts. Even down to the crush washers. Great video
@craighanesworth Thanks Craig.Yes there's no substitute for the correct parts .
I always always go with OEM parts. Why? Because they work perfectly.
@KrakensGarageandAdventures I agree 100%..It just makes sense..
Of course using OEM parts is the best choice for any motorcycle, but sometimes it's quite hard to find even aftermarket parts. For example with my old carbureted klx250 supermoto I use sealings, bearings, repair kits and other things from aftermarket brands like Allballs, DRC, Athena and so on. And moreover sometimes I even have to order things from China¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You make a good point sometimes your hand is forced to go elsewhere due to availability and vintage . Thanks for taking the time to comment .Cheers 🍺
@@TRyanLearnBikes I've remembered it was exactly like with your rz350 caliper rebuild. I wish motorcycle makers were making parts for their old models despite being discontinued.
@@wonniethepoop7856 Wow ..thats pretty cool that you watched and remembered that particular caliper rebuild video .
Yes it can be a little frustrating when it comes to finding parts for our older bikes as you know all too well with your KLX250 .Thanks for watching and you continued support.Cheers to you good sir
🍺
I had a massive head gasket leak on a bike because the previous owner replaced a similar gasket washers with regular washers.....
Thats a perfect real world example of the scinerio in this video .Thanks for sharing that one ,much appreciated .Cheers 🍺
Do it once and do it right is my motto.
@@jasonsong86 Thats a good motto for sure. 👍
@@TRyanLearnBikes Yes. I always use NOS when possible and if not then I'd use OEM and if not, then the best quality non genuine replacement parts.
@@theaustralianconundrum Thats a great strategy , you won't go far wrong doing it that way .
i try to use oem unless there isnt anything special but i dont get some cheap bolt in the spot
Its definatley a balancing act between availability, cost and quality .
If it's UJM bikes then all the big four use many dozens or even a hundred outside companies to manufacture their parts for them to the exact specification for tolerance and warranty etc...
True that , I guess thats why its so important to always try to get the right part for your machine .Improvising can work sometimes but not always .
