Matt the Builder, can we kill it? Matt the Builder, Yes we can ! Fjord, Nott and Caleb, and Jester too, Beau, Cad and Yasha join the crew Matt and the gang have so much fun Working together they get the job done
I love when Veth said "She just saved you from a fucking god. Give it to her now." Also I'm thinking Matt just made up the upgrade on the spot cause...Veth made an excellent point.
That’s funny, because all I thought when Veth said that was “no she didn’t. She froze like a deer in the headlights so you all just pretended she saved the day so Laura didn’t look bad”
For a moment, while Artagan was in chains, I had a vision of him being punished by being cursed into a weasel, then sent back in time to be adopted by Jester.
Honestly, if the Moon Weaver was actually able to polymorph Artagan into a weasel and send him back in time, and Caleb notices, that would be an amazing transition to resume Caleb's arc of trying to save his parents. "This creature, this burned, maimed, waterlogged, cruelly mistreat-ehm... misunderstood weasel is the key to what I have been searching for. Rectification. A do over." Really wanna get back to Caleb's story. His is the most interesting to me.
TheOctavariumTheory one issue. In dnd gods generally don’t mess with time (some versions they are banned. Still the Moonweaver doesn’t control the sphere of time and probably wouldn’t. As far as calab it’s a much better character growth that he is learning to cope with his mistakes and embrace his new family but that’s an opinion. Also fun fact two true Resurrections and 50k gold would fix that issue much faster....or one wish spell....that he can learn....
Matt: “You all have pleasant dreams of your goals and accomplishments.” Also Matt: “Caduceus, you have a nightmarish vision of a living city, whose streets warp and walls scream.” Sounds about right lol
I think it’s super cool that Matt is having Cad have all these dreams about the city because you can tell the city was supposed to be Molly’s backstory. This way talisen can still enjoy the backstory that was created for his character albeit a bit differently :)
I love the idea that people keep finding themselves drawn to Fjord, AKA the character with the highest Charisma in the party, because he has this natural gravitas about him making them think he knows about being a leader and has all this life experience, meanwhile Fjord is just over here panicking every time someone asks him a serious question about life and the future because he has no fucking clue what he's doing half the time.
@@BLasherman Which I think is why he was drawn to Caduceus as a tutor, as Caduceus has a wisdom that he strives for but doesn’t quite have, though I find Fjord can be very insightful when he is given a moment to just think.
matt, crying and unable to breathe, wheezing out "im so happy" and "traveler con js everything i was hoping it would be" is somehow the most heartwarming thing ive ever seen. im so glad he's having so much fun with this
bigfatcarp93 honestly though dating a crazy hot red head, freeing a Demi-God that gives you mastery over the ocean while proceeding to create your own roaming army/navel fleet/nation doesn’t sound to bad.
Fjord wanted to go to College and ended up being a pirate, a smuggler, stopped a war, ended a cult, and is now hanging out in the jungle. That's the most Mighty Nein thing I've ever heard.
I have a feeling they did a scavenger hunt and some party members just started buying the items vs finding them..... But I like the way you interpreted it better 😂😂😂
SPOILERS Regarding the Moonweaver, "Widely worshipped within halfling and elven culture, she is largely considered to be the deity of *love and protector of the trysts of lovers*." I think this is why she ultimately chose to let him go in the end. She saw that despite him being a "selfish creature", he somehow loved something other than himself and his own entertainment.
I dunno. Maybe we're just interpreting it now because Matt chose the route that had better story ahead even though Jester didn't explain their ultimately decent intentions as well as she could and as well as Matt hoped for.
For some reason, the whole Jester-Traveller-Exchange about the moon has me in absolute tears - "WHAT DO YOU MEAN, WE HAVE TO MAKE A MOON? DON'T YOU KNOW HOW MOONS WORK?!" - "I DO BUT I AM NOT THE MOONWEAVER!!!" Chaos at its finest!
Travis is so pure. Watching him react is one of the best parts. And how it plays across his face how much he loves his wife. Travis Willingham is a treasure.
I keep remembering after Molly died how Jester Pulled the moon card, and now they are interacting with this god of trickery and the moon with blue skin. You guys....MOLLY KNEW THINGS! MOLLY KNEW THINGS! lol
As much as it's "Sam's character leaving again" trope, as a parent as he is, I wholeheartedly understand the feelings he's trying to convey with Veth. If Veth left, I couldn't argue against it... it'd be for the right reasons.
It's not a trope when it's only happened once before. That's like saying "herp derp it's such a trope that (insert player name here)'s character died much like how their character died in the first campaign herp derp"
I wasn't necessarily meaning "Sam's character leaving" the action being the trope as leaving this comment as yet another "Sam's character leaving" being the trope. Really should have phrased it as "At risk of sounding like the "Sam's character leaving again trope..."
@@IIToneAII You shouldn't have used the word trope. "Trope" is defined as a recurrent theme. Only one character has left mid campaign alive, and thus, isn't recurrent
Caduceus can’t remember what the Moonweaver looks like, because it’s been a while since he buried one of her followers. This alludes to Caduceus seeing the physical forms of gods coming to collect the spirits of their followers. In this essay I will
@@phebster4202 I clicked on view replies for the full essay. Instead I just got a comment asking where the essay is. And it's been 11 months, so I'm starting to think there is no essay. I'm a little disappointed.
Okay, with Nott becoming Veth, Fjord multi-classing and changing deities, Yasha’s wings having feathers, Caleb’s personal growth, the Rumblecusp storyline, and Beau making expositor, I feel like we need a new theme song video. Keep the song (change the word Falchion to Broadsword) and alter that animation to show how much the characters have changed.
@@Quotenwagnerianer Why does it have to be a challenge? I don't see the logic, they're all friends in real life so should they be playing as if they don't like each other in-game?
Well, in Vo they say that the Traveler's heart grew three sizes that day. And then the true meaning of Traveler Con came through, and the Traveler found the strength of ten Travelers, plus two.
Yes, oh my god, I had to watch it three times. I wanted to look at Marisha's and Travis' expressions, but I kept being distracted by Ashley, because her face just told sooo much in that sequence. Like for everything Beau said you could plainly read in her expression what Yasha thought about it.
I really love how much a driving force Caleb has been in this campaign, returning the Dodecahedron and him approaching the others to continue working to make sure there is peace and get rid of all the shit in the Empire. It feels like whenever the Mighty Nine gets lost on what to do, Caleb always has an idea of what they should do next.
@@beholdman7158 exactly. I feel like fjord is a leader in the ways you typically expect- charismatic, trustworthy, and just a generally solid guy that you can go to. I forgot what Beau said but she described it as basically a feeling of trust that he can lead you somewhere. Caleb on the other hand while not charismatic and not so bold, is smart. He’s always thinking of the next steps and how to continue and grow. This week on critical role: The Mighty Nein get on the Moonweaver's shitlist. Will they manage to piss off every single powerfull being in Exandria? Tune in next week to find out!
I have a feeling the Moonhand actually respects Jester a good bit for putting her butt on the line for her “god” like that. Gods tend to love devoted followers.
They made some enemie on their way ! An ancient white dragon who have their sent. A dragon Turtle. Celia has been humiliated. There is the chain of oblivion still in activity if I remember correctly ... xD The Mighty Nein.
He had already put the moon plot hook in front of them, remember the moon researcher? I would bet money that that entire lore and storyline was already ready in the background but Matt has a masterful poker face.
Oh yeah, I am pretty sure Ruidus was planned out as one of the big world plot points from C1, one of em "setting changing" threats that sit in the background and grow larger and larger until it's too late to stop em XD @zoltanszaszi2264
All Sam had to do was MENTION an old NPC to Laura, and Matt immediately dug through one of his binders for notes in case they decided to message someone.
I didn't but I can certainly understand why others would. Especially Marisha/Beau since the group was talking about having pretend sacrifices part of the trick.
Can we all take a moment to enjoy the momentous cruelty of the golden dick prank. Imagine being such a total bitch as the woman in question. Nobody likes you, you've no friends. Then this magical stranger potential god approaches you. He gives you magical powers, and tells you to be rebellious. You embrace that whole healthily because of course you would. Then he tells you about a gathering on this remote island were his most special followers will gather. You feel a little dejected cause you didn't get a role in preparing for it. But you're mostly elated. All these people are going to value this god, and by extension you, as you're a chosen follower. Then you go on to win the challenge of the gathering, and you feel amazing. Yet quickly that amazement turns in despair, the golden dick won't come of. You hide it, because you don't know what else to do. You join the journey to the top of a volcano, each step more difficult as the last one. Not because you're tired, but because each step bring you closer to the inevitable moment where the dick won't come of. You're the last one, you had to wait in desperation there was no other choice. The magical god looks at you with a knowing smile, and asks you to trust him. And you so gladly do. This wasn't a cruel trick, it was a challenge of faith. Faith you readily give, elated you run to volcano. Preparing yourself for a mighty throw one fueled by the desperation of the day.. Bamm you're tackled to the ground by this crazy monk person. What's happening? are you being attacked? why would that happen? Then she quickly gets up in and apologizes, apparently she thought you were suicidal. The whole thing confuses you to no end, but you don't have time for that. Your god has asks you to throw a dick so you will. But you can't the dick won't come of, you try and try and try again. It just doesn't work. You look at your god with pleading eyes. He just smiles a mocking smile "got you". A trickster god, of course he didn't like you, nobody ever has, nobody ever will. This whole thing was set up just to humiliate you, just another reminder that you'll never belong. That's some BBEG background material right there.
Honestly, from a lot of their "harmless pranks", there should be by now a couple of people either having lost their jobs, some of their mental sanity, becoming vengeful or murderous or just being dead. I crave to see some of that.
By this point the Mighty Nein have really built up an eclectic rogues gallery of enemies out there who want them dead. Uka'toa (Uka’toa), The Chained Oblivion and by extension any of its cultists, Gelidon the Frigid Doom, the Dragon Turtle, that girl, I know there's a bunch more but my mind has stopped working.
man, i love it when matt just loses his shit laughing when veth mentions the sovereign glue. that shit's coming out only with universal solvent or a wish spell and he KNOWS it.
Beau and Fjord: I feel like there have been four different versions of us since all this started *Nott having literally changed bodies and Taliesin having gone from Molly to Cad*: mood
"I'm talking about Yasha, you can go back to Yasha." Fjord with that low wisdom not realizing just how many people have a crush on Jester is just great
Okay, I didn't expect that one. This is why I love Mercer. You can talk about the whole Mercer effect and how it gives unrealistic expectations of DMs and shit, but goddamn, he makes good stories. Nothing but utter and complete respect here. That was lovely.
I like to think there's someone out there going through ep 56 binge watching and hearing about traveler con. And then a notification of a new episode of Critical Role called "Traveler Con episode 108" pops up. Man it's been a ride...
I'm going through a tough time right now, getting away from a toxic relationship that was draining everything I had, and just hearing "You have to let go, we will catch you." really hit hard. I needed to hear that. Thank you Travis.
I am, actually. I'm finally at a point where I hardly think of them and the intense hurt I'd feel has gone away. I'm glad I moved on, and I was able to learn about my own boundaries thanks to them. I hate that it happened, but I came away with good lessons.
@@gamingwithautism : I am glad you're doing fine. And I understand you, because it took me much longer to realize what you have, in much less time. The only thing I can say is, if there is still pain, that pain should remind you of what lessons you've learned, and how much you've grown. It is a part of the human condition that pain both teaches and reminds us of the lessons we need to learn and remember, because growth is never easy, nor is it ever painless. And only by experiencing pain are we forged into who we are, and who we become. I hope you are well, friend and fellow Critter. Truly do I mean this.
Man, it really hits different seeing the Mighy Nein starting to really relax and act like not just friends, but a family, and aknowledging it even. Being happy and comfortable. It was one thing with Vox Machina like during their little vacation. That was amazing too, don't get me wrong, but they were a family before the stream even began. The Mighty Nein we watched go from a bunch of asshole nobodies (not really tho) that struggled to even begin to trust eachother to... this. We SAW them looking helpless and aimless and scared and bitter. This just feels like such a treat, and so earned. This is the fruits of their journey.
Last time there was a major character arc wrap up combined with Liam questioning what the group is going to do with themselves, Matt hit them with a left hook. What's in the Biting North?
Assuming they mean like the Greying Wildlands, Remember when they were in the ACIENT WHITE DRAGON’S lair in Mythburrow and there was some weird ass looking technology that was frozen in the ice? It was like Matt was describing some sci-fi level weird technology. The Savalir Wood is also home to the ruins of Molaesmyr, the ancient elven city with TONS of magic and relics that suddenly fell to the curse. And let’s not forget the floating cities from the Age of Arcanum that came crashing down to the surface way back in The Calamity. Who knows what’s up there!!
@@cathyshepard253 Spoilers from TGTW: I believe they're actually talking about the islands of Eiselcross, north of the wildlands, which contain the ruins of Aeor the pre-calamity floating city. Also, there's a cult that worships a massive worm and eats parts of him that make them become wormkin. So another Vo, but cold.
When Caleb was studying the silencing collar Matt mentioned that the stone needed to power it would be found in the wreckages of the floating towns, one of which is rumored to be in Eiselcross. My assumption is that DeRogna is after the same material.
Moonweaver to the Traveller: "When will you learn! That your actions have CoNSeqUeNceS!" Also moonweaver: "Just kidding. You just got~ pranked baby!" Was a little surprised they didn't go back for the other 20% of the hoard in the volcano.

Im so mad about none of the party member value what really is important to jester. Marisha: Do you think he’ll let me punch him? Taliesin: he might like it... Sam: You can maybe choke him out? i- this went to a very different place I feel
Marisha gets so much credit for her note taking, but when it comes to "what are we going to do next" time Sam's phenomenal note taking really shows but is so unrecognized because he tries to role play it away every time.
I feel like Sam doesn't get enough credit for his notes but also how much attention he pays. This isn't a slight against Marisha, not at all. I've done the same thing as her in the past, taken really detailed notes but actually missed half a conversation or explanation because I'm focused on something that was said a moment ago.
@@MorinehtarTheBlue I’m probably too kind a DM but I often let players clarify with me after a session like “my notes say this, what was that guy’s name again?” Or “what was the end of that sentence or code they said?” Just bc I know how annoying it is to be scribbling furiously trying to keep up with what’s going on, and I want them to have fun in the moment too. Even so, note-takers like Marisha and Sam still crop up and it’s amazing, I don’t think I could keep up even that much
Oh man Caleb teased about wanting to learn a spell that "creates a beautiful mansion out of no where" early on in the campaign and now hes finally there.
To be fair, the Moon Weaver was described as using trickery for the sake of love and secret trysts. I don't think the Storm Lord or the Raven Queen would have cared at all Edit: Also they didn't free Artagan until he proved he actually loved Jester back (not being an entirely selfish being) by not allowing her to go with him
It’s somewhat funny, but it also highlights how much character development Caleb still has to go through and how the burdens of the past constantly weighs down on him.
That's me every Thursday night at a convention. I'm just getting a little too drunk and feeling guilty that I'm going to be partying all Friday while my coworkers are picking up my slack.
Idk if it's just me, but Caleb's character is taking a very interesting turn slowly slipping into old toxic habits; like that dangerous casting of desintegration against Vokodo that could have permanently killed a party member. And he's overall getting cocky and overconfident in his abilities. (I absolutely love all this and would like to see were it all leads). Ep 10-30 Caleb would have never dared, let alone expected people to follow him in his own personal endeavors, now he's asking his best friend, (who wants to go home to her family) to follow him into a dangerous situation to mess with the most dangerous people of the empire.

I have a feeling the Moonhand actually respects Jester a good bit for putting her butt on the line for her “god” like that. Gods tend to love devoted followers.
Turns out the campaign finale is just the party evading the wrath of everybody they've pissed off

Beau: 'gotta be a prison on the moon'
In my head: *Matt will remember that*
He had already put the moon plot hook in front of them, remember the moon researcher? I would bet money that that entire lore and storyline was already ready in the background but Matt has a masterful poker face.
Oh yeah, I am pretty sure Ruidus was planned out as one of the big world plot points from C1, one of em "setting changing" threats that sit in the background and grow larger and larger until it's too late to stop em XD @zoltanszaszi2264
All Sam had to do was MENTION an old NPC to Laura, and Matt immediately dug through one of his binders for notes in case they decided to message someone.

Show of hands for everyone else who thought Celia was gonna jump.
I'll admit it, I thought she was gonna as a showcase of piety.
I thought she was going to push Jester in to the volcano
Even if she did, I'm pretty sure the Traveler would have saved her.
Man, that was so funny.

Holy shit that’s an amazing interpretation and I love it.
@@tlowgh125 Thanks, always nice to know your old comment made someone smile.
Honestly, from a lot of their "harmless pranks", there should be by now a couple of people either having lost their jobs, some of their mental sanity, becoming vengeful or murderous or just being dead. I crave to see some of that.
A perfect summary
By this point the Mighty Nein have really built up an eclectic rogues gallery of enemies out there who want them dead.
Uka'toa (Uka’toa), The Chained Oblivion and by extension any of its cultists, Gelidon the Frigid Doom, the Dragon Turtle, that girl, I know there's a bunch more but my mind has stopped working.

The Mighty Nein we watched go from a bunch of asshole nobodies (not really tho) that struggled to even begin to trust eachother to... this. Big props to Matt for making the outcome of the Artaggon situation come down togood role play rather than a dice role.
(I'm not caught up yet I know they've gone north). In the guidebook it details all the old, old magic artifacts buried deep in the dangerous, frozen ruins.

Wow! Totally missed that the first time through.
@@django3422 In situations like that you are almost better off taking notes at the end of session. Though that has it's own complications to be sure.
