As you saw, I had some problems with the Insta 360 ONE R in the video. I've reached out to Insta360 and they've told me that the problems are not regular and they are sending me some replacement parts to test... I'll keep you posted here on updates once I can try things out!

Shitty cam, it is not even close to half of what it must be: moist in the cam, not usable for watersports, crap to edit on the computer, horrible noise. All in all: I returned this thing to my local shop.

I experienced the same issue with my Insta360 One R. The camera froze, the app crashed, and The buttons and touch screen were unresponsive. I had to disconnect the battery, just like you said. I'm definitely interested in knowing what they say about that. Seems like it would be a software issue. EDIT: updating the firmware solved the issue for me.

I'd say go with the gopro max cuz it's way better than the one R. Everything is just more seemless and they've been in the game for a long time. The audio is superb compared to this one R and that's the most important.

From all I´ve seen I´m not convinced with the image quality of the 1", looks like sensor size isn't everything, its the processing. Gopro would do a better job with that sensor.

Great review Dunna! They had to send me another one because my first ONE R was doing exactly what yours was doing. That made finding the info I was actually looking for a lot easier, and faster, to find. Thank you so much! I'm sure it's often overlooked and requires extra effort, but please don't stop doing it! I'll have to look at some of your other videos just because of that one extra bit of attention to detail.

As someone who has yet to get into the 360 game, both the design and ambition of this camera are super intriguing. The workflow is intimidating for me knowing that I let the camera roll and pick through later... but it's cool to see some innovative solutions like the free capture. This is probably a year I pass on buying a new action cam with everything going on but you've got me considering something like this more seriously for 2021. Great video and congrats on 100k!

hi Dunna! I hope all is well! As much as possible...I have enjoyed the Insta 360 One X for a bit and I also have a gopro hero 8. I find myself using the One X a lot more for short unique videos and I would like to replace them both with the best 360/action camera combo...this One R seems promising...but I dont know if the R has better video in 360 compared to the One X..really that much better? The 4k module on the R is not as good as the video from the Hero 8 and the 1inch module can't focus from up close....hmm..should I wait for the next Insta 360 camera and just continue to enjoy my insta 360 one X for now and the Gopro for the occasional action shots? i know you made this video back in May and I know that there have been several updates to the R...is this camera now better than the One X and the Gopro 8? what would be your opinion? Thanks so much.

Are you able to do a non-stop record with the 360 module and see how many minutes you can record before the camera overheats? I bought one of these a week ago and properly used it for a shoot yesterday. Air temperature was about 16 degrees C and I used the camera in surf mounted to a harness. It shut off after exactly 23 minutes. Back in the office I ran the same test without the housing and again the camera shut off after 23 minutes. I measured the external temperature of the camera with an infrared thermometer and it came in at 53 degrees.
Just out of interest I repeated this exercise after the camera had cooled down enough to become responsive again. This time I put it into a fridge running at 4 degrees C. After 23 minutes the temperature was at 43 degrees. After 45 minutes it shut down again. However this time I got the same screen freeze you showed in the video.
I had borrowed the GoPro MAX back in November and used in similar conditions without any heat issues. The camera would record for 90 minutes until the battery ran out.
I am getting close to returning the One R. For most action shots were the camera is mounted to something it's impractical to keep stopping and starting the recording. You want to set it to record for the maximum battery life and then edit out the footage worth keeping later on.

Is it possible that your mic requires phantom power? A lot of cameras have phantom power, or it needs to be turned on in the camera. Something so small may not have phantom power available, but if your mic is a condenser mic, you may be able to insert a battery into your mic for power.

Since the big firmware update a couple of months ago, I've had no problems. All new action cameras have teething problems, the One X, gopro max, Osmo and Sony all had firmware updates to fix the problems. One good thing about the One R, you don't have to wait too long for the updates and Insta360 even asked what would you like to see on future updates.
As with many of the comments, a lot have not owned or tried the One R.
As for sound quality, the last update was a big improvement, you now have Wind noise reduction. 3 settings, either off, voice boost or intense for action shots. I hope your camera will lbe working fine once the parts arrive.

There's condensation issue inside the lens, mic noise issues, waterproof issue when using it in water, and the image quality from the 1-inch sensor is unimpressive, furthermore they have problem with motion stabilization when filming with the 1-inch sensor on the move. Add to that, people are reporting that it takes a long time to export out 1-inch video clips from the app.

For anyone considering this camera, read this before you buy!
I'm really disappointed with my Insta360 One R. Out of frustration, I am returning for a refund!
These are the issues I had:
    - most importantly, you cannot film more than 30 minutes at a time because the control module overheats and turns off! And apparently I'm not the only one with this problem, just search for "Insta360 one R heatsink mod".
    - Once you've taken your video (I bought mine purely for the 360 module) downloading the videos to the phone is SOOO SLOW!!! And if you do it too long... yes, the control module overheats and turns off, so if you were in the middle of a lengthy transfer, you first have to wait for it to cool down and then you have to start the download all over again.
-I found editing the videos in the app is pretty annoying, picking a point to track was unreliable, unless you picked a person, that seemed to work quite well, but anything else, I'd have situations where it would suddenly stop tracking the selected point and turn to focus on my face???
    - the stitching was not at all as good as in this video, there was a clear ripple where if I did a face-shot, I could literally end up without a nose or an eye. For scenery it isn't so obvious but it makes you have to think which direction you're pointing it, which one thing you shouldn't need to worry about.
    - Voice commands do work but... sometimes only.
So yeah, so disappointed that the last batch of footage I made today, I couldn't even be bothered to download it, I started and just got angry at it and gave up, took the card out put everything back in the original packaging and sorted out the return. Frustrated, disappointed, and annoyed!!!

Great video! Considering on picking one up from BH photo as I was jet skiing and lost my GoPro. It's between that and the osmo action.

Interesting, my 360 one r did the same thing , I was using the bullet time and the camera froze, I could not stop the recording and had to completely take it apart . Also the battery only last about 40 min tops. That’s why I got two batteries. And the camera gets super hot . Other than that the camera is good.

You have to export thru app on phone or tablet or software on computer then you can edit freely on whatever software you want would recommend doing some post editing in app before export has some cool features

Do not buy Insta360 One R BEFORE checking out ALL the fogging issues! I brought one and got the fogging issue straight away, then found out many more users are getting the same issue. Personally I would stay right away, but the choice is yours!
BTW the sealed bag and supplied silica sachets DID NOT WORK FOR ME! Camera has been returned!

I have to say I am skeptical of this camera just from the perspective that I beat my GoPro up so badly. I feel like with all of the little pieces of this camera I am likely to break something pretty quick. also, bonus points for "unicorn mode"... I always thought I look like one of those weird fish with the glowy thing on their head...

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah, I think a lot of people are pretty skeptical about the modular design for that reason. It was solid for me but I baby my gear.

    • @PerfectlyNormalHumans
      @PerfectlyNormalHumans 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@dunnadidit I am pretty careful with all my gear too but I think it's just the nature of the GoPro that it is always being put into situations where it will get dirty, wet and banged around. the super wide lens and tiny form factor just begs for you to place it so close to the action that it always ends up in harm's way. poor little GoPro, always taking one for the team.

Hey Dunna. I have few questions for you. Wich camera bag should I buy(small but big enaug and nice looking, you know...for EDC) Is it worth buing sony a7 iii( my second choise would be a6600) because I want a full frame. But if I buy a full frame lense and a6600 then I could upgrade to lets sey a7r iii or upcoming a7 iv next year. Wich full frame lens should I buy for sony, it needs to be under 1500 and i needs to be zoom lense. I also need an good tripod under 300 i am 172 cm. Ps. For the bag i am looking at lowepro freeline 350. I do not like wandrd so please recomend me something else love your videos and sorry for my bad english

This is a lot of questions all in one... which tells me that you need to do more research first. There's no way I can make up your mind for you here. Feel free to check out my gear links and kit for recommendations but you've got to make some decisions on your own too.

Interesting glimpse into this thing. That 1 inch sensor is terrible though. There's no getting around it. Turns your perfectly fine action cam footage into pastey junk...at least after TH-cam compression, which lets face it, is going to go hand-in-hand with this camera. What a weird thing to put their effort behind at the obvious expense of the audio experience.

  • @lxapproduction

I ordered the 1" sensor mod right when this camera was announced and only got it about a few weeks ago. I must admit that I am a bit disappointed and that it is definitely missing some features. I am currently working fitting a variable ND filter to the lens to see if it improves the cinematic look of my clips, but yeah I think it was a bit overhyped when it came out. Also, you barely see any reviews or test footage from this camera... Maybe from now on I should be patient and wait for some good reviews before buying expensive stuff :D

I'm skeptical about spending $500 on a camera, because I have a shelf full of digital cameras that at one time were state of the art the new hotness, and are now totally obsolete and worthless. Anyone want a free camera to record video at 640x480? I thought not. If you were selling this in Best Buy and I asked you would this camera not be obsolete 5 years from now, could you tell me with a straight face that yeah, we'd still be selling them here at Best Buy 5 years from now and it will hold it's value. Hmmmrrrr.
Plus I see in other videos you have to get another case for it with shoe, to hold your tiny shotgun mike (because th e built in audio on it is poor), and buy a mike adapter for $12.. or get more batteries because the battery life is short, or get the bigger battery to connect to your tripod, or get a bigger SD card because Insta 360 files are 2x the size of mp4s... and I'm like ughhh... I don't want to have to buy all these accessories, or edit on my phone, I just want it to work, and work with editing software on a Windows 7 computer (hello, Go Pro Sudio does not - so fairl there).

@UselessMarsupial The footage isn't that good and the audio sucks even when I put on an external mic. Plus, the app is terrible and when you connect the camera to your phone the connection is lack luster. Plus the tech support is a joke. They blame it on your cord and SD cord. I tried to return it but they won't take their junk camera back

Thank God for TH-cam Algorithm for suggesting this video to me. I would have been piss off and return the Insta360 piece of crap immediately.

WOW!!! The One R is absolute garbage!!! I would never pay for what they ask for it...with the issues you showed I would shell out maybe $25.00-$50.00 for everything. I am going to stick to my DJI Osmo Action and if I want 360 I will use the original Insta360 One X

@@dunnadidit I just call it like I see it....I have been saying since they announced the One R that it would have a ton of flaws and your review just reinforced it for me...
      (1) The audio preamps are absolute garbage if it won't work properly with the Deity mic plus even with the Rode Video Micro when you plugged it in, you had pump up the volume to +42 decibels.
      (2) The mic was in frame when you were videoing so that is a HUGE minus in my opinion.
      (3) the low light was not at all great compared to the Osmo Action which in my opinion has better low light performance.
      (4) The colours weren't nearly as good as the Osmo Action
      (5) why would I want to add extra modules and constantly be switching between them when I can just grab either the One X or Osmo Action and go..it kind of makes more clutter in a camera bag in my opinion. Plus they are so small it is easy to drop or misplace them
      (6) With the Osmo Action, I can just stick it in its cage/case and go, compared to with the One R, you have to remove the lens cover to take it out and put it in the cage.
      (7) Having modules loose and open with air and dust and dirt getting into the connections will eventually mess those up, especially say you are at the beach one day...you drop one into the sand or surf, water gets in...boom your module is toast!! Time to shell out more money for a new one
      (8) Why would I buy a camera that every few moments is going to freeze up and I have to waste time pulling the battery off and putting it back on...
      (9) Obviously it corrupted one of your video files and I wouldn't trust a camera that is going to do that.
.....Just way too many reasons for me not to waste my money on one.
