    Hey, so I'll be bringing more budget laptops soon. I've got an HP Omen 15 coming soon, probably shipped out to me today (it was delayed). I want to cover some laptops around the $1000 mark, so stay tuned. Just a matter of time, it can be tough getting my hands on them sometimes.

      You should have gotten the maxed out version since is the option no one has done a review on, well Dave Lee did but I really didn't like it maybe you can do one in the near future. By the way I really like your reviews they are very detail and you cover basically everything about the laptop keep up the hard work.

    • @SpiinM8
      @SpiinM8 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@micahfreeman3412 i'll be completely honest with you i've never really been too interested about thermals etc, but i can tell you it doesn't get hot really when maxing out the cpu in game, it's not loud either, the speakers built in are great and override the fans, but the core temps i've seen after playing like red dead 2 is like 75-85C so, i don't think that's too hot? i've had mine plugged in on charge pretty much constantly, but when i unplug it it says it has a few hours remaining, so i wouldn't suggest gaming on the battery because it'll die pretty quickly, i guess this is just because how much power it runs

      I've been using the 2019 Blade 15 for a little over a year now. I love! It does run pretty warm during gaming sessions (CPU ~98°C in Rocket League as an example).
      The one thing I miss is the number pad. I had to use my laptop to work-from-home for a little while. I use AutoCAD at work and I really missed the number pad. I had to buy a bluetooth number pad just to get anything done.
      I'm really thinking of upgrading to a 17" with a number pad and with a new Nvidia 3xxx series graphics card next year. That Alienware machine looks pretty sleek and sexy. Build quality is important to me. I'm tired of all the plasticy and blingy gaming laptops. The Alienware is probably the flashiest I'm willing to go. I'm sure I could turn off all the chroma lights?

    • @icypirate11
      @icypirate11 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@basilthepitty8720,
      I love it. It runs everything I throw at it. When in power saver mode I can surf the web and watch Netflix for hours. I haven't timed it but I think it can probably go 5 hours or so. If you don't put it in power saver mode you will only get about an hour and a half of use.
      One thing that I noticed right after purchase is that the laptop drastically throttles when on battery only. I thought I could play unplugged for an hour but it's not possible on a demanding game. You have to be plugged in to fully power the graphics card. I think this is a limitation of the battery. I normally plug it in anyways... but thought I'd mention that. If I play Rocket League unplugged it averages 80fps which is playable. I think RL is more CPU intensive but I'm not to sure. It definitely struggles when loading the game and changing screens when gaming unplugged.
      All in all, I love the laptop. Best computer I've ever owned. I just love being able to use it anywhere and everywhere and not being tied-down to a stationary PC like before. I also plug an HDMI cable in and play on my projector screen. Red Dead Redemption 2 on a 100" screen is pretty awesome!

    So here's my dilemma - I have an Alienware 17 R4 with an i7-770HQ (not overclock-able) and a GTX 1070. I configured it with a 4K screen, which of course is at 60Hz, and while I was originally using the system primarily for video editing of 4K footage I also did some gaming. I'm no longer video editing but I am gaming a lot more and I was wondering, does anyone actually use the graphics amplifiers? How effective are they, and (I should know this) can they/are they designed to be used with an external monitor? Would it be more cost-effective to do that or simply get a newer, more powerful system? Good video, thanks for the information, a balanced comparison review with clear use-case recommendations. I'd love to hear long-term reliability and customer service thought as well, as I do know some people find a need to, for instance, re-paste the CPU/GPU in Alienware laptops fairly early on.

    • @AZFlyingCook
      @AZFlyingCook 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I agree with pretty much just what you said. The 7700HQ is a bit old and a bit ... Intel-y (i.e. locked, stupidly). I can run just about everything at 1080p and a surprising number of things at 4K, but the screen seems small and between the 1070 and fun cooling issues with all laptops (not just this D___ A____w___) I should sell it. Having said that, I'm sadly a bit of a tech hoarder, still having kept my HP Elitebook with a Quadro card in it, so who knows if I'll actually sell this thing or not. Thank you for the comment!

    Thanks for comparison and confirming battery life. I had the M15 R3 300Mhz, 2080 super, and was only getting 1 1/2 hours on battery with all battery-saving features active and the screen set to 50% brightness doing streaming of media, no gameplay. Someone suggested changing the screen to 60Hz, but I was not able to find this option and did not test it. The R3 is much better at cooling than the R2, the keyboard and touchpad are great. Lights up well and has many additional functions, my system rear IO panel is angled to match the design aesthetic, which is preventing cables/plugs from seating flush with the system. I have several plugs I can not use because they are not able to go in enough to create a full connection.
    An excellent example of this is the power plug. The power plug pushed all the way into the system leaves a good 1/8" outside of the system! It is loose and comes out easily. The same is true for the Thunderbolt 3 port. I tried four different USB C cables and could not get a full connection in the Thunderbolt 3 ports. Is it my unit or a design flaw I do not know, but I sent it back. This is unfortunate because I did get a great deal on the system, but I have learned my lesson with Dell and been burnt sending units back for replacement. One other thing I find odd is there is no Windows Hello which I have come to really like.

    • @ikelopez4427
      @ikelopez4427 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the 2080 Super does not have Nvidia optimus. That’s the main the reason the battery life sucks. I think the 2060 300Hz has Nvidia Optimus which gives around 5-6 web browsing and 3-4 watch time on TH-cam for example.

      @Fisustin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Razer has 1 Thunderbolt (compatible also with USB-C) and 1 USB-C.
      Essentially what this means is that you can plug in an USB-C device to either the USB-C port, or the Thunderbolt port and it will work.
      But if you have a Thunderbolt device (for example, external GPU enclosure) which needs much higher bandwith than what USB can provide, it will only work when connected to the Thunderbolt port.

Add $30 for per key RGB. The $2300 option also gives a direct $200 discount, and you can buy it in August for a further 17% discount during Dell Annual sale (bringing the above model for less than $3000)
