      All I can speak to is my own experience. I've had mine well over a year and I still look forward to every trip in it long or short. It just glides down the highway like a jet. The steering is light, the ride is refined and smooth. I wouldn't want to take a road trip in anything else. It surprises even car snobs who wouldn't be caught dead owning an American car. Everyone who rides in it asks "You mean THIS is a Taurus??" I love those moments.

    When Ford first introduced the Taurus SHO they intended it to be a family sedan with just a little more than the run of the mills Taurus. It was never meant to compete with the Chevy SS and Ford has carried through with their intentional designs. It is a very good car for someone who wants a good family car with a little more without having to pay an arm and a leg. I have to hand it to Ford they really made a good car.

    Ford did a hell of a job on the last gen sho. I lucked up last summer and picked up a slick 2010 with 34k miles in great condition and (almost) new Michelins. Got a great deal on the car. She runs like a damn champ and is loaded with all the luxury options. Love the car!

    Good review Matt, my dad has a 2011 SHO that he bought new and it's really a great car. His does have the performance package so it has great brakes and it handles very well for such a big, heavy car. There is no comparison to the rest of the Taurus line up and it makes my 2015 Chrysler 200 feel sloppy in the corners due to how much more body roll it has. I will say I am not at all a fan of those gauges, the ones in the 2010-2012 models were MUCH better if you ask me. They were all analog and they looked great in the car, I do like the center console updates as it looks more modern than my dad's does. The exterior updates give it a more aggressive look but my dad's sort of has a sleeper effect and you really don't know it's an SHO until you see the badge or know the Taurus which is cool. It's funny, when he bought the car it had THE WORST Goodyear tires on it that only lasted 16,000 miles before they were completely bald and made the car ride like a brick. We have since put Yokohama tires on it which have forever changed that car's personality. It not only has a much more forgiving ride, but it handles better and the tires last more than twice as long. It has 75k on it now and I've been driving it lately while my car gets a recall fixed so I might do a review on it. I drove it to Myrtle Beach this past summer (a 12 hour drive from me) and it was a great road trip car. It's very comfortable like you mentioned and our's has the suede inserts on the seats which I think do a great job of holding you in place instead of all leather. Acceleration from a stand still is really where this car shines and the low end torque is awesome. I think it's biggest competitor is the Dodge Charger R/T with the 5.7 HEMI but now that the Scat Pack is out with a starting price of $38k with the 392, it really gives this car some serious competition. While this may be better year round with the AWD, the Charger definitely wins in the bang for your buck department. The Chevy SS is a lighter and smaller car which is why it handles better. Anyway I'm rambling but the SHO is a great car and I might post a review of ours while I have it. Lastly, am I the only one who doesn't say "show" but rather "S-H-O" like it's supposed to be???

    I'm happy to always see a Ford Taurus SHO review, and WOW! So many comments... anyway I've owned both the 2010, and now 2013 SHO. One of the real reasons this car came to market, (it was not produced for a decade) and no one has really spoke about this; is it's huge, kind of iconic, and "legendary" status, as one of the great "sleepers". The car has an interesting history, and cult-like following of sorts. I've always loved the car for what it is, Ford opted to add a lot of badging to better announce that yea, it's a family Taurus, but... it's the SHO. Some people know right away, that this is not your run of the mill Taurus, for those that know and respect the car, will often refer to it as their "SHO" (setting aside the "show" or "S.H.O." pronounce debate) It's big, comfortable, luxurious, and has that aggressive sporty side to create something unique, oddly enough, it is an anonymous legend. Once you own and drive one, you really love driving it everyday.

Now I come back to relieve my glory years with her. Can’t wait to improve my income and buy a 2019 as my spare car. Thanks for your years of entertains Matt!

    • @mr.lokeii7248
      @mr.lokeii7248 ปีที่แล้ว

      did you have any common problems, like the water pump, timing chain, etc? Was thinking about buying one (2013) and wanted to know if it was unreliable.

    • @andrenichols2670
      @andrenichols2670 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mr.lokeii7248 I’ll be completely honest. She was the best I’ve ever owned but she was extremely unreliable. So I owned her for 110k miles. I had two PTUs go out and my car jumped timing (timing chain issue) at like 80k miles. I gave it up because the transmission went out (which was completely my fault, I neglected the issue) and bought and Explorer.
      To answer your question, they honestly aren’t reliable. My neighbor bought a SHO right after I bought mine and the turbo went out on his. Regardless we both LOVED our cars. I plan to buy another one and I just have to have a savings account for the issues I will face. Probably a long answer but it’s the truth. Let me know if you have any questions.

    You should try to test drive one that has the performance package (pp). It addresses a lot of the handling issues you were experiencing. The non pp version has much softer springs and caters to the go fast but not feel any bumps crowd. The pp version is tighter but would make some buyers uncomfortable. Some people say don't buy the pp and get a tune, but the pp is more a prerequisite for a tune. Its almost a purpose built pre-tune package that gets the car ready for another 100 horsepower with better brakes, suspension, lower gears and supplemental cooling.

    • @MrSlowestD16
      @MrSlowestD16 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +CareerFireman Yeah, that's about what I figured it would be about (usually approx 20%+ is a good GUIDELINE for most boosted engines which aren't pushed too hard from factory - the engines can't be pushed too hard from the factory due to warranty purposes), but that guy flipped out at me and started calling me names - then deleted his comment -_-.

    • @MrSlowestD16
      @MrSlowestD16 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +CareerFireman I think with a tune it's a pretty awesome platform. Not a platform I'd build to make epic (like 800hp) power with, but to enjoy and get I'd say it sounds pretty awesome - especially with such light mods..

    • @MrSlowestD16
      @MrSlowestD16 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +CareerFireman Yeah, 365 should be plenty.
      Your warranty actually doesn't prevent you from making mods. It just creates the risk that if you have a catastrophic engine failure (ie. fry a ring), when they investigate, they may determine that the tune was the cause of the failure, and not uphold the warranty. Which is bad, but it's not quite the same concept as "my warranty is void", if you understand what I mean.

    I adore my '14 Limited, its been one of the best cars I have owned. Great tech, quality interior, very safe, great on gas, lots of power and drives like a Lincoln on the highway. If you looking for one used I highly suggest a 2013+ models as a lot improved. I would really try to consider looking for one that is as loaded as you find, a base Limited at the least. I crossed shopped 4 other full size cars, Avalon, 300, Impala and Charger. The material quality in the interior were no match with the Ford. The ride was so much more balanced, it was to sporty, to harsh or to soft like the others I found. It does it all right.

    COOL Review: 2013 Ford Taurus SHO

  • @alecrobinson2063
    @alecrobinson2063 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Taurus has always been well known for the most trunk space of any 5 passenger sedan on the market. 20.1 cubic feet of space, it's mind-boggling that it fits in the car, and leaves the rear seats with plenty of leg room. It's really sad they killed it in 2013 with the EcoBoost engine and ultimately killed the Taurus this year.

    I work at a Ford dealer and drive these all of the time. The performance is great. I personally think that that the styling is just ok. The leather is cheap and the visibility is limited. It fells a bit like a bunker on the inside. Waiting for the new Taurus.

    • @zachg9065

      +ZL1Gimpelson That bunker feeling annoys some, true (not the first time I've heard that), but people like me actually love the cockpit-feeling you get.

    • @robbryniak9409
      @robbryniak9409 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol... Well... I prefer a bunker that actually wins drag races & my SHO has beat every camaro it's been up against. (Still waiting to race a ZL1 or late model Z28. That could go down differently then, assuming a driver that can actually get the power down to tarmac :-) )

    • @robbryniak9409
      @robbryniak9409 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      And that's just it. Getting the power down from a dig is so easy with the SHO it's almost cheating lol. Further, when people talk HP/TQ numbers they usually compare peak vs peak... the SHO has an incredibly wide power band, so it has more usuable power throughout the entire rev range.
      Also, it's pretty well believed by the SHO community that the 3.5L EB TT is vastly undertuned by Ford to not interfere with the Mustang for marketing. Newer model vehicles with the same powertrain and over 400 hp seem to confirm that suspicion. Personally, I've so far only put about 2 G's in performance in my SHO, including brake upgrades... haven't hit the 1/4 with my most recent 3Bar tune yet (chomping at the bit though), but the last 2Bar tune had me doing 12.7 in the 1/4 as personal best with 0-60 best at 4.5 seconds.
      (Tuner is Livernois Motorsports out of Michigan for anyone reading and curious.)

    • @robbryniak9409
      @robbryniak9409 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will absolutely have safe fun... you too! :D My point before was actually regarding power to weight, specifically... I think people often make bad assumptions based on power/weight because they're not considering the entirety of the power curve... performance is really more of a calculus problem than a simple division problem. If you have a 3700 lbs vehicle with 400whp/400wtq, and a 4300 lbs vehicle with 400whp/400wtq, then the assumption is that the 3700 lbs vehicle will be faster. Some might even say "duh!" because that's an absolutely correct conclusion... but only if the power is applied in a similar fashion in each gear over the entirety of the rev range from idle to max rpm. However, what if the 3700 lbs car has the traditional power curve, where the torque is reached gradually from 1500 to 5500 rpm, then fades dramatically, and the 4300 lbs car has a flat torque curve where it's near max torque from 1500 to 5500 rpm, AND has the traction to use it? It's very likely that the heavier car will actually be quicker in this case because the max torque and max power aren't just a blip in the rpm range, where power is applied more fully consistently over the entire rpm range... that little tidbit, plus the awesome traction from AWD make the new SHO's quite special in my opinion. Now, from a roll, you could be right, the SS might pwn the SHO, it's quite possible... you'd have to try it at a long enough track and see for sure... sadly I've only had the opportunity to go from a dig against the cars you mentioned - but I wouldn't be surprised of the outcome regardless of who won. ...Oh... and of course you're 100% correct about tuned vs. stock, that's not a fair comparison really. I only mentioned it because I believe Ford actually de-tuned the SHO quite a bit (really sub-optimally, and on purpose), so there's a LOT of room for just tuning without adding performance parts vs. the room a GT might have for tuning without adding performance parts as well. However, as is always the case, you can do just about ANYTHING to just about ANY car, so mods should probably be excluded from an apples to apples comparison. (Have you seen the ultra high powered smart car that pops wheels off the line? It's HILARIOUS!!) Anyhow, thanks for the discussion. :D

      +CareerFireman I think people who buy Tauruses -- even the SHO -- honestly don't care that much if they're a fraction of sec slower or faster than an SS. The SHO buyer is usually an older loyal "Ford guy" who likes the idea of having a ballsy fast car but still wants to be pampered in the refined style, comfort and options of a Limited.

    • @michaeljordan9879
      @michaeljordan9879 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I yield to your knowledge and experience on drag racing. My only point was I think I'm typical of most Taurus owners. We know the SHO is an overweight no-brainer to launch. Press foot here and pose. Want a back massage while we nanny you through this .5 g turn? Sure, sport. You the man! I know the real deal but Taurus guys can't drive anything else. We're like Charlie Brown and that Christmas tree. We're the only ones who understand why we like them.

    • @michaeljordan9879
      @michaeljordan9879 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I find the day to day driving fun of an SHO is that other people don't know what it's capable of. It's a sleeper. Somebody's giving you attitude from their (are you kidding me?) base Camaro? Limp a little behind them for a while then punch it. Wait for them at the next light. Roll down your window and say "I got my daughter got that same car. You like those, too?"
