A pack of coyotes nearly ran into me on a game trail while trying to film the sunset this week. I was able to get them howling with a few calls and got some really nice footage.
The coyote’s genus name Canis is Latin for hound. By hound, I mean any dog. I think the reason its species name is latrans, which is Latin for barking, is because coyotes are sometimes called barking wolves. Do you think so?
I had one once as a pet maybe. This was while serving in the military in an undisclosed location in the Southwestern U.S. The coyote would come around, and a few of us would commit the carnal sin of feeding it some left over scraps. After several months, I developed a bit of a "quid pro quo" relationship with the animal. I fed the animal while in return I got to witness the magnificent creature up close and personal. His name was Wile E. Coyote incidentally, imagine that. Another soldier named him that actually and it stuck.
For the official record Wile E. Coyote did not like the "Chile-Mac." surprise in which the chow hall concocted that particular day. The response was a sour look after a dog just ate a lemon, and a f*ck you have a nice day look on his face lol.
