Thanks for reviewing this one because it is one I had not had a chance to try. Now I have one less bottle to chase and will focus on other things to explore. I like your focus on a bottle giving us the experience that matches the price. I get most excited about a bottle that gives me much more than I expected for the price. Cheers, Jim. I hope you had a lazy Sunday.

@@budj13 cheers Bud. The price is the biggest sticking point for me where this bottle is concerned. I could understand a lot of people liking this expression at a lower price but, for what it's currently at....not so much.

My whisky of the year, last year was an Aultmore. Cadenheads at 19 years old, so tropical and fresh. I have tried this OB and enjoyed it, but that was about six years ago. All the best chap👍

Thanks for reviewing this one, Jim.
Unfortunately it indeed becomes hard to get. I do like it... but that is for the price tag it used to have.

I had this question about the potential discontinuation of this bottle come up when I ranked Speyside distilleries, and I couldn't find a definitive answer, but you've identified a very good alternative, here. Cheers, Jim!

    Excellent review, Jim! 👍
I almost don't dare writing this... but guess what I have (sealed) in my cabinet!? 😂
Nope... no party, sorry. I'll uncork them over time, when I feel for it and time is right (i.e. probably requires a bottle kill of another OB). But I'll get there, eventually.
    I really appreciate your input.
We'll see if I'm more impressed than you. Fortunately I bought it a couple of years ago, before it was discontinued (which is also, what I've read - maybe not permanently so, who knows? 🤔), so at least I didn't overpay.
    Cheers buddy! 🥃

@@bennyfriis601 you most likely got it at a better price too I'll favour Benny😉
Well, between myself and the million (or so) other reviewers takes on these whiskies...you'll have some reading/viewing to do when you do start uncorking 🤣🤣🤣
      Cheers buddy.

Hi Jim, dare I say that I quite enjoyed my bottle of Aultmore 12 so bought another one (that’s still closed),but that was a number of years ago when it was a lot cheaper. Pretty sure it’s being discontinued along with the 18. Good honest review, as always, Slàinte Jim. PS looking forward to cracking my Balblair 12 at some point.🥃

Nice call out for Balblair 12. I find you need to put it in the glass and let it sit with a drop of water and a cover for 30 minutes to really get what's in there. Cheers Jim

Thank you! I was thinking about buying this but the price made me wait, now I will pass and try something else.

Not tried this Jim so nice to hear your thoughts. Shame it's not better as there are quite a few other 12 year old that compete better against this, especially on price. Cheers fella.

That is interesting take on Aultmore. I really liked it and picked up few backup bottles especially it was on offer.
Strangely enough this bottle is available in my market at roughly 45 pounds even though our market is not the cheapest of them all.

I really like the Foggie Moss Jim, I have replaced it & will continue to while I can. It's actually an affordable one here, around the same price as the Glencadam 10. I enjoy opening up the Aultmore with half a teaspoon of water, and same applies for the Balblair. Maybe I just like that style. I reckon the Glencadam 10 is another to compare.

Interesting Jim ..Not very often i have a diff opinion than you ....But I , like you , did find this quite underwhelming ,as the gent below opinions ...a bit too light and a bit too subtle .
But ..as time has progressed , i like this and i reach for it ..A Lot .
I also think Deanston 12 is lovely stuff great value and a bit beefier , but there's just something about the Ault 12 with a drop of water ( quite a bit ) that when it opens up ...Its Nice , lots of layers ...still subtle , but with different flavours ..Its a keeper for me , but it took time to appreciate .

I was a bit disappointed with Aultmore 12 after seeing some glowing reviews. It was nice enough, but not worth a repeat. I love the Balblair 12 (and 15) and it is a constant on my shelf.

Ah man I echo you so much on this. It is like promising something that it doesn't deliver. It's still a solid dram but not so memorable but I still enjoy it from time to time. I wonder how the new re-vamped range will be like. Your alternative is pretty solid too but again similar on the forgettable side I think. Cheers Jim 🥃

This one was the third or fourth bottle of malt I bought when I was transitioning from bourbon to malt Scotch. Aultmoor 12 and Aberlour Abunad put me down the malt rabbit hole and never looked back. I think this 12 has been replaced by a 10 that looks nearly identical. Cheers Jim

To compare, last time I bought a bottle I paid 36 euros for a bottle. That was in sept 2021.

The problem is that…. These are good bottles, when you purchased them a few years ago… The price was much better, so the price quality balance would be a good one…
But as always, a (proxy) war is expensive… and the normal people have to pay extra taxes for that… increased energy prices is also tax that result in higher production prices that going to result in higher taxes….
But it’s a good whisky… when you got it a few years ago and kept something for later.

AULTMORE 12YO is (too) light and (too) subtle whisky. It's ok for what it is, but I would pour myself dram of DEANSTON 12YO instead of AULTMORE 12YO. DEANSTON is bolder and cheaper.

I associate it with Glencadam 10. Far cheaper, also very subtle but with a lot more character
