  • Skiing with my friends farther who learned to ski on straight skis and had not had a lesson in many many years.
He is a good confident skier, but I thought he could get more out of the shaped skis, with a slight change in technique.

Even the instructor is skidding and brushing the slope in this video 😂 I guess the old way of skiing is still valid and requires less effort as 10 metre turn radius on steel edges means lots of G force on your quads.

I bet you’re right. Shaped skis transfer force to the edges much better than straight skis.
I’m also pleased to see that it’s just as easy to “parallel” on them. And using a shorter ski is so much fun on tighter terrain, powder being a possible exception.

That was very informative! I skied 180-190 long skis back in the 80s-90s, but have never skied the parabolic style skis. I’m blown away by the advancements in design and technology of skis these days! I reckon a 175 with a moderate camber and narrow to mid under foot width would be a good starting point if I were to ski again.
I’m amazed at how much easier skiing appears to be today compared to 30-40 years ago.
The stem christie was always useful to minimize your turn radius, but today it’s so much easier to execute! The parabolic shape of skis appears to have really advanced ski performance, especially for beginners all the way to advanced recreational skiers.
And doing the pole plant parallel skiing looks practically effortless compared to the heavy, longer skis.
Thanks for your interesting video! 👍
