I'm from switzerland so I learned skiing very very early! When I was 3.5 - 4 Years old too be exact so yea...!! Now I'm 20+ and I've been siing like 20 years love your videos there always great!
Skiing with someone better challenges you but also teaches you because you can see what they do differently. It can get tiring though. I've been on both sides of the equation and empathy on both sides is very valuable especially if you are the better skier. Luv and Peace.
For someone that is skiing for all of his life seeing his progression is incredible. Alot of people need alot more time to get this good. Keep going Alex
As someone who is standing on skis every winter since I was 2, I have to say it is really great to see you getting into it and showing the world how one can always start picking it up and enjoy it from the beginning. Keep it up, having this much progress after only one year is really impressive!
I'm going on a skiing trip with my in-laws in two weeks. They do this every year, but my family never did. I really want to join and I'm trying to take some lessons here and there, but it feels stressful because I'm trying to catch up in a very short time with what my boyfriend, his family, and friends have built up over years. Your video gives me some hope that I shouldn't be too hard on myself and that I should be proud of the progress I make. So, thank you.
Don't overthink it too much - as long as you had fun, that's what matters. To make you feel better, I have never seen snow in my entire life, and now I'm shredding reds and did my first black run last week.
The mountain is a beautiful place to be even without skiing. It’s important to enjoy it! With lessons and hard work you can become a good skier in time, but you can appreciate the après ski and mountain sunsets straight away. Go for a swim and sauna after a long day on the slopes, or when the weather is bad. Go to the pub for a few pints. Ski resorts are my favourite place to be, everyone is happy to be in nature and doing what they love.
Downhill is so easy to skii, just put yours skiis straight, pray for god and fly past your mother inlaw. All in all its hard to even fall when you are blasting down 100 mph
Exact same position as you two years ago, now I’m more confident than some of them! Your determination to keep up will push you. Biggest advice is try and get a lesson out there, a few lessons at home didn’t compare to a one on one with an instructor out there!! Good luck!
Mate. I went on a ski holiday for the first time with uni 24 years ago and I caught the bug. Your video hit home because I decided to get better and started going to MK every Saturday.. 3 hours a week. The following year I progressed so much just like you did! I ended up doing seasons in the Alps, riding for the fledgling GB freestyle squad and living a full life in the mountains. My passion is now and always has been for 20 years skiing and nothing gives me more joy than ripping it up with my kids who have loved a full life being skiers since the age of 2! Love this vid 🔥❤️
I am 55 years old originally from Egypt 🇪🇬 and have been living in the United States over the past quarter century and picked up skiing a couple of years ago and it is a thrill skiing with my sons on the snow instead of just watching them coming down the slope from a distance. It is so much fun. You have definitely improved and you are right comparing your own progress year after year. I am sure in no time you will be skiing on steeper terrain with ease and confidence. Thanks for sharing. It is inspiring.
Actually I would like some advice so I’m American been skiing my whole life and I would like to take my girlfriend who is Egyptian with me as a side note she has never seen a real mountain before lived her whole life in Cairo before coming to the states and what helped you to get going need advice for her
A few things to note and things I've found teaching mates to give the quickest improvement... 1. Head and eyes up. Don't looks down, look ahead. Far ahead. 2. When turning, don't force the turn. Place your weight on the outside and wait. You will gain speed, but live with it and be patient until the turn is completed. 3. Relax and enjoy. Being tense makes it difficult. It also hurts much much when you fall. Getting over these first 3 points will accelerate you towards being an intermediate skiier. Happy skiing!
For anyone wanting to try skiing, do it. I took lessons a few years ago and loved it but I had to wait for high school to join the ski club. I went on 4 trips last year and got the hang of it again and had an absolute blast. Trust me it will be the most fun you’ve had in a long time
You remind me so much of my husband who started skiing 25 years ago age 35. He was not ever interested in going before but from the first time he put skis on, he was hooked. In his second ski trip, he was going down anything (always having lessons as you can never be too good for expert advice) and now he is an avid off piste skier. We joined a local dry slope ski club in the early days and were trained to race. Best way to learn technique. We are still totally obsessed with skiing and even spent 3 months in the Alps a few years ago. Have done our first trip this season and off again in a few weeks. An expensive hobby though! Keep it up, Alex, you are brilliant 😊
My favourite upload yet, said a non-skiing gardener here. Loving the relaxed vibes of this one, fantastic editing, and of course your dedication in reaching the goal(s) you set yourself. Great work, Alex 👏🏻
Some good skiing advice for anyone, of any level- 1) keep your shins in contact with the front of your boots (this helps keep your knees bent, which helps with stability. It also helps you absorb bumps and uneven terrain) 2) Steer with your feet, not your shoulders. Put presser on the inside/outside of your skis to turn so you're not flinging your upper body around 3) Bellybutton stays downhill 4) If you're trying a new technique for the first time and it feels weird, you're probably doing it right. Keep going! 5) It can take a long time for new skills to click, and even if you've been skiing for a while, there's still loads you can learn and improve on. But it doesn't happen overnight. Sometimes it can take years to get better at 1 specific element of skiing- it's not easy, keep going!
1. Correct. 2. 100% incorrect. 3. To start a new turn, you look and then face your entire upper body down the hill as you change your weight and balance from your downhill to your uphill foot. 4. Not necessarily to the point of not thinking that at all. Doing it the right or wrong way will feel uncomfortable until you get used to it. 5. With incorrect teaching which is what you will get no matter where you go, it will be just as you described. But it doesn't have to be like that at all with the correct teaching. I found a skier that was a complete twisted knot of humanity with absolutely no clue what to do but he had been doing it for long enough that the fear factor was gone. It took me 10, TEN, minutes to completely transform him into a technically correct skier. Now, he had the correct and easy to remember information to work with until he could gain his confidence doing it.
A really nice reportage from someone who is not trying to show off something extreme. This was far more enjoyable than watching Candid Thovax. Everyone starts at the beginning, everyone should remember that. I admire your enthusiasm for the sport, the patience and the willingness to make it happen. Every guy that wizzes past you needs to remember these early days!
Do I care at all about skiing in any form? No. Did I have other videos I could watch just as well as this? Yes. Did I immediately klick this as soon as it came up? 100% yes. Lovely work as always!
Knew the feeling of longing for skiing again would come! I'm going skiing for the 10th year now this year - and being 41 I started as an adult like you. But it is the best I ever did, my favourite kind of holiday by far. I have some video from my first run - and I am so proud of how far I have come, and I am glad you take that approach too. You did so much, and you inspire so many people with your videos - me included. Thank you for being there with your wonderful videos and stories!
Great story Alex, I loved watching your first ride, and that you came to see your friend again, it warmed my heart when I saw you laughing with joy from skiing.
Thank you Alex for all your videos because I am from syria and when I watch your videos I'm learning and improving my English language so Thanks a lot❤
Ok I watched this video just to pass the time and to hear what you felt honestly made me so happy because it’s exactly what I felt when I first started all the way to the end I’m so glad you could put your feelings and experiences into words and make a video like you did thank you
the fact you hit a run as steep as you did at 11:09 in less than a year is insane. Just went up to the top of a ski resort in the ALPS with no map of where the easiest route was to go down, in less than a year. Big ups, people dont usually progress as fast as this.
That was a huge improvement in one year, don't criticize yourself , you are doing great , you are from a non skiing country, it's alien to us ,these guys have been skiing their whole lives, it;s there on their doorstep. When you come out of your turn lift up then lean when you are making your turn,, Lift and Lean ,get that in your head Lift and Lean. The lean is the initiation of your turn Practice on wide blue runs where you don't have to worry about it being too steep and you going too fast. Enjoy and be safe.
Seeing this just before going to ski tomorrow. It will be my 8th time in skies as I’ve started learning this year at almost 35. Finally I see what the hype is all about and why so many people fall in love with skiing. It helped me appreciate and love snow even more. And it makes me sad to see how hot those last few winters are 😢 I want to improve my parallel turns and get rid of fear on steeper hills. Seeing this video actually just motived me even more to not give up. It was a very humble and educational video! Thanks a lot!
That was fantastic! I loved the grace with which you afforded yourself, the awe experienced with fresh snow through the forest, and joy of our sport ! May you continue to find new challenges and wonders for years to come -- Thank you for sharing. See you on the slopes!
Hi Alex. A very nice movie. It is very instructive to see your progression on skis from your perspective, from total beginner to intermediate. Many people could benefit greatly from seeing it, both people who learn to ski, and people who work as ski instructors. I have worked 20 years as a ski instructor and have always skied. I'm starting to get better at understanding now, but I see that many new ski instructors with the same background as me, struggle to empathize with the experience of a beginner. In fact, many of the best instructors are instructors who have backgrounds like you. They have the ability to empathize, and know to a greater extent what works and what does not work based on their own experience.
You're such a great narrator man, your voice and the way you speak make it so enjoyable to hear you talk. I love how you took all your skills from everything carl and alex and just genuinely make the best reality content on youtube. Amazing how much you improved skiing in such a short time, very nice! Don't compare yourself to other skiers like Phil, these people have been skiing since they were younger, it's just on a different level. Give yourself some more time/sessions to build that confidence and you'll be flying down those black slopes in no time. Tip for deeper snow, lean back a little/a lot depending on how deep it gets But obviously don't put yourself at risk by going off-piste.
I just watched your video of your first time skiing the other day, because this is my first season learning to ski. You may compare yourself to others who are more experienced, but it's truly amazing and so inspiring to see how much you have improved and how confident you have become in only one year!!
I'm so glad this vid popped up on my screen. I've only been skiing for 2 seasons in the US. I can't believe I waited 57 years to try it! I agree it's one of the most fun things I've ever done. Your journey in learning reminds me of the struggles I also faced. I can also relate to the joyful feeling when reaching new milestones. My skill level is about the same as yours at the end of this video. I've done the easy runs and some intermediate as well. No expert yet. I almost didn't watch this because of the length of the video, but once it started I couldn't turn it off because I could relate to so much of it. I'm jealous of you because you got to learn in one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. I hope to someday get to ski in a place like that. Congrats on your progress, good luck in your future skiing and cheers from the US.
Started skiing a year ago as well! I’m skiing in Tahoe California. Heavenly, Kirkwood, and Northstar. Each time I get better and better. Thank you for the beautiful video. Enjoyed it very much. Cheers!!
I love that you documented this. I started at age 55 and now 58 and I am so proud of my progress but still so much to learn. But highly addictive sport.
Good job, Alex! Skiing is definitely something you need to learn at your own rate, not anyone else's. I haven't been skiing in years, but I always hit the dry slopes a few times before my holidays just to dust off the rust a little. I also discovered that snow is so much easier to skii on then a dry slope, so for all the beginners out there, don't panic if you're still struggling before your holiday. When you're still learning, it's ALWAYS a good idea to book some time with an instructor on your first day to get your trip going the right way from day 1. Thanks for sharing your journey, Alex, it's supper helpful for new skiers to see how quickly they can improve if they put the time in 😊👍👍👍👍
You should be proud of yourself Alex, not only did you actually stick to doing something but you made incredible progress along the way. There's a huge indoor skislope in Manchester, if your ever in the area I'd happily give you a lesson.
as someone from Austria who often skis in kitzbühel and the region and who enjoyed your videos in the past i can only thank you for a wonderful video crossover between you and my home country!
Alex Back at it again! trying new things working out with to make new friends and meet old ones all while improving himself on something he's never done before, you my friend are THE best TH-cam Channel on TH-cam! and just so you know we don't want you to push more videos, just these small and amazing things that you capture are the real perspective of life, you teach us how to live! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
As someone that has been a ski instructor off and on for over 30 years I love seeing this progression. I started on skis when I was 3 years old and been skiing for 45 years and still in love with the sport. Ever find yourself in western canada skiing let me know would love to take you out for day of skiing.
You're doing great!! Love the enthusiasm. Skiing is mostly mental. Stay aggressive and you'll do great. I've been skiing since 1970 and can't get enough. Moved near Telluride CO recently and now I'm in heaven.
I first learned how to ski in Colorado and fell in love with it. Moved to Western Montana near a ski resort, and now I can ski pretty much anytime I want during the winter because I’m only 20 minutes away from the ski resort.
Alex, I came across this video completely by accident and I must say it was one of the best things I saw today. My wife and I went to learn skiing last weekend. She used to ski in the past and didn’t really forget the basics, but for me it was the first time I had had skis on. So your video was full of the same thoughts and emotions I experienced when on the slope and also that experience of an amazing feeling of skiing being soooooo good, so relaxing and amazing was there with me too. Like you, I also thought this must be the best sport ever! Such a positive video, such a good energy coming from it! Thank you so much!
This was such an enjoyable video. I found myself watching this one morning during breakfast in preparation for my day out on the slopes. Hope to see an update on your skiing journey, Alex!
Great skiing and really good progression - I've just returned a couple of days ago from my first skiing in 15 years so I know how hard it is and believe me you are doing great - keep going and keep enjoying this fantastic sport👍
i've been skiing my whole life. i love it, and i'm pretty good at it. and seeing you discover this sport, getting better at it, and enjoying it so much; that really put a smile on my face!
* Your story telling is wonderful. So natural. So much fun to watch and very inspirational. Interestingly; very calming at the same time. * Your enthusiasm to learn more and develop on a subject is very very inspirational. You have developed your skiing skills so fast ; you are right to be proud of yourself. * You are a very friendly person. It is great to watch how you socialise with and honour other people. ** Please make more vidoes. I believe you are the best video maker on youtube. Thank you for sharing.
This is some great wholesome content. The point about comparing yourself to others when you should be comparing yourself to yourself is a key point that people forget in life! Great to see your progression so far! Well done!
Thank you for this video, I just tried to ski for the first time this past week after being a snowboarder and your video is really helpful for anyone learning to ski as you documented the progress nicely and with super helpful tips!
I LOVE your video! I am 42 years old, and skied for the first time, earlier this month (Feb 2024). It's something I have wanted to do since I was a child in Jamaica, where we only have sun and rain; no snow! I fell in love with it and decided to buy my own skies, boots, and poles. Can't wait to get better!
Man I really find this video so relatable, I didn't know about skiing till last year and when I tried It it was like being in heaven. Since that moment It is the only thing I can think about all day. Love these videos man! Keep It Up! 💪🔥
I went skiing for the first time yesterday, and was watching this video leading up to the day; I learned so much second hand through this video. Definitely something I am going to pursue, and inspiring to see the progress one can make in a short time. Thank you Alex!
I got your first ski video as a recommendation from youtube when I decided to take my first ski lesson a couple of weeks ago and in the end I got hooked by all the other of your adventures/journeys, specially the beekeeping and now seeing how you stayed with the 'ski bug' and improved so much in one year is such an inspiration to do the same, even for an old rag like me (48yo), keep it up Alex! Cheers from Canada.
I never really comment, but I just had to mention the insane improvement you've gone through in just one year, I was almost speechless when I saw the first-day-after-a-year footage. I started skiing in school about 8 years ago I think and I've gone every year with my father since, but I only got to the point where you're at now after about 4-5 years, so I really find it amazing. (But it also might just be that I'm a really bad learner haha..) Skiing just makes all your problems go away (for a week, at least), it's the best thing ever. Quite simply the best part of the year.
I was as same as you 1 year ago. When I heard that at 25-30 it's a late period to begin skiing, at 42 years old me I thought it would be a very hard time to learn. And it was indeed, but with a lot of practice and 10 hours with instructors I was able to achieve level 5, like my last instructor told me. With hard work everything it's possible.
Love it, love it, love it. I watched your video when you learnt to a year ago and can I just say, the continuity of revisiting this a year on is a really nice touch you put with your videos!! Plus the sense of adventure you capture in all of them is inspiring. I started watching you when you had your channel with your brother but I now get just as much enjoyment watching your adventures. It's relatable to me, I'm an angler but some of the equally good parts of my life have been exploring and adventuring like you are
Absolutely loved this video. So well produced. I'm 58 and just started skiing and this was very inspiring. Love the solo travel aspect too. It's my favorite way to see the world. Thanks for sharing your vision.
It's just fantastic to see you struggling at first and then make progress each time you put your gear on , I absolute understand where you're coming from. We've all been there. Skiing is the best thing ever. I'll be leaving for Austria within 12 hours, so excited each year. Thanks very much for filming all that you experienced so far and keep up the good work. TH-cam is a great way to learn more and will absolutely increase your skills. Greetz from Holland!
after seeing your journey from the beginning to one year improvement that make me a lot of encouragement, thank you Alex and i will start it over at Japan of my skiing.
Thanks for this upload Alex, it perfectly captured all the things I also felt when falling in love with skiing. Makes you feel a bit like being a kid again i guess, that is; the whole thing of discovering something new and so exciting + the amazing humbling scenery and nature. Never gets old! Just wait till you start doing some carved turns, it gets even better! I can't wait to go again.
Well done Alex! You have come such a long way in the space of a year! That's what I love about skiing, there is so much to love and progress in either piste, off piste or park skiing. It's sucks to live in UK but I guess that makes it even more special and exciting when we go! Keep at it!
That is the most inspiring ski video I have ever seen!!!! You can be proud. Catching the essence of what skiing is all bout, as a beginner. I, myself have only been skiing for 4 seasons now (with covid in between), and beginning really to catch on. (I am twice your age, so it requires some training to stay fit enough) 🙂 You have felt he satisfaction of being able to pick up more speed and control in such a short time, and to me it looks damn impressive. I did see your first ski video (and liked it) a year ago sitting by the computer, dreaming og the next trip to Wagrain (Austria). Keep on skiing! - The Dane
It happens that I went through most of what you did, but in a shorter period of time (started by the beginning of winter, now living near a ski resort). I really enjoyed seeing my mistakes and improvements throughout the video. Makes it cozy and yet informant. You are good, very good, at what you do. Keep it up!
Great editing! I was smiling watching your progression. I started my skiing journey last year as an adult in my 30s, fell in love, and now am planning ski holidays for the next two years.
Alex, congratulations man. I can relate because i also started skiing back in 2016 and this vid you made is such a great example of how much you can achieve if you don't give up. Keep up the good work and never stop trying!! I would really love to make a trip to the Alps!! It's in my bucket list!!
You are far better than me after just two day lessons. When I see how steep are the slopes, i have no idea how to deal with it. After 3 winter, I reach your level. To everyone who leqrn to ski as an adult, just go to your pace. A big kudos to my husband to cheer me up every time I fail, be my driver and my ski valet!
Excellent progress Alex. You have come on leaps and bounds in a year. Keep going to the indoor Snowdome and maybe get a lesson or two there as well. Key is to keep the weight forward over the downhill ski and not sit back. The exercises where you lift the uphill ski and have the ski poles at 90deg to the slope are excellent. If you find a quiet slope, combine them so that you really focus on your body position and using the hips, legs and ankles to control the skis rather than swinging your chest and shoulders. (I’m an ex instructor!!!) For only the 2nd time on snow, you are getting really good.
This video is truly a great inspiration to start the day with a strong and optimistic spirit. Wishing everyone good health and peace in all circumstances! hug from Vietnam
I have been skiing my whole life and at first thought this video would be a bit boring to watch since I already know how to ski, but actually it made me so happy to see you put effort into learning and getting better so fast. Also, I'm always afraid of going on a ski trip by myself. Since I have not many friends who know how to ski and my parents always go during holiday season which is too expensive for me. Seeing you going on those trips alone and being happy makes me wanna try it as well. Thanks for creating this awesome video and sharing your progress with us. 😁
When I started snowboarding I already knew how to ski perfectly well, but I still fell over like 100 times in the first hour! But now I can never go back to skis haha, snowboarding is like flying... or surfing. The chill-ness is on another level. Hope you try that too some day :)
i have never seen such an amazing video about somebody learning how to ski. even though i have been skiing for many years and lately literally every single day, i still think that i have learned something after watching this video. i wanna see 2 years progression next year for sure!
Loved the video. I know that feeling going down something crazy for the first time. Loved it every time you referred to your airbnb as your “accommodation”. Sounds very proper and funny to this American.
Yet another great video, Alex. It's always enjoyable watching your experiences of learning new skills and the memories and stories you create along the way with the people you meet.
Alex. This popped up and I started watching and stayed to the end. Excellent video. Great progress on the skiing. I started at 17 years old. I still remember those first few times… without lessons lol. Terrifying at first. I’m 61 now retired and still ski. I visited my home town and skied here the last week. Today the skiing was wicked. Keep at it.
You are skiing really well for a beginner Alex! Regular practice at the snow dome is a good idea. Getting as many lessons as you can afford is also important to progress your technique, and ensure you don’t pick up bad habits. The better you can make your technique the easier and more enjoyable it is to ski. When it becomes second nature you can fully appreciate all the beauty around you. Off-slope the best thing you can do is get stronger, especially in your legs and core. Squats are a great exercise for skiing. Hiking and biking are also good. If you can combine more strength with better technique you will easily progress to feeling comfortable on red runs. Keep at it!
Your video gave me a lot of great tips because I’m an intermediate skier struggling with improving my skiing technique! Thank you so much, and keep up with the great videos!
This is exactly the mode and calmness you should have learning how to ski. Very well done to you and your instructor and self-teaching in britain ;) I really like your commentary. Keep on skiing and enjoy the mountains (maybe next year). 🤙🏻
Thanks for the advice to look back on how far one has come from the beginning when they first put on skis in their lives. I too find myself comparing with better skiers which isn't bad, just that we have to take a moment to see our own progression to keep going. I have to say your progression is really good! I also ski once a year and each time I return I forget and regress about 30% (as most people like us do). But it took me so long (2 ski trips) to get to parallel turns and more recently carving. The feeling is amazing. I hope you document when you first execute carves - that happiness is similar to the first time you go down a ski hill.🥰 I also relate so hard to the part where you wonder how it took you so long to attempt this sport. At least you did in your 20s. I have met some people who pick it up in their 50s and realize how much they love it. We got lucky!
I miss the Austrian Alps, which is the first and last place I tried learning to ski. You had much better instruction than I did. We were primarily skiing in ice with some bumps called Mogels 😮. Not sure of the spelling on that, but I would be merrily zooming along feeling great when all of a sudden, I’d be on the ground and sure enough, had hit a mogul. 🙄😂 The hardest part for me was figuring out the ski lifts. They had one where you put this thin piece of plastic on your butt and it would pull you up, but I just fell off every time. Still the whole experience was a BLAST 😊. It’s been 37 years since I was there. Enjoy!! ❤
It's "Mugel" (pronounced like Moogle), which in dialect means "tiny hill" and a slope with many Mugel is called "Mugelpiste". Alternatively also called "Buckelpiste" (hunchback slope))
Awesome Alex, great video - I've been skiing for twenty plus years in Austria and love going back - the tranquil blue runs are amazing and when you progress, beating a hard red and black feels a great achievement. I love the peace and quiet of the mountains as well - coming from flat Suffolk, the views take my breath away. Throw yourself into the apres-ski afterward - ski hard, party hard, go to bed early and repeat.
This video was great, it was so relaxing for some reason. The calm music added so much character to this video and the simplicity of the editing is amazing when ur in such a nice place here its so beauitful
Lovely to see another beginner experience. I started putting the serious effort in skiing about 3 years ago. My benefit is a 2 hour drive to a big ski hill. You are way more brave and athletic than me (at 40). If your quads are hurting, it means you are too much in your backseat. I found working on my balance and core when I am not skiing helped me a lot when I was.
Man, this video helped me a lot, I was thinking that it didn't make sense to go skiing once a year because of the logistics of where I live, and then I would never learn properly, but you motivated me to continue, this year I I wouldn't go to Ushuaia in Argentine Patagonia, and after watching your video I'm already looking at the tickets. thank you very much!
I also live in the UK and only learned how to ski a week ago in Switzerland. Seeing how much effort you put in and how much you've improved is really inspiring!
If you are ever in Park City, Utah, come and stay with Nancy and me. I really enjoy your videos and your encouragement to others to get out and experience life. You are an inspiration for us all. Cheers!
I used to ski every year, when I was your age. It was wonderful. I went back to the top of the Hintertux glacier a few years back - after a 25 year absence, and it was magical to be back. I didn't ski down to the village this time, but I did mentally! As well as the wonderful Gröstl, you have to have a Jagatee or 2 in a mountain hut! You'll fly down the slopes!
you have improved so much! im glad you didnt give up and followed ur heart all the way to the slopes once more! im from brisbane so i know how it feels to fall in love with skiing but not easily being able to do it, i had a very recent trip to the netherlands and i did indoor skiing for about 11hrs total, fell in love with it, already got really good at it, im committed to buying my own set of gear and i just cant wait till i ski a real mountain
Skiing, fishing, beekeeping, man after my own heart. Brilliant Alex i can see massive improvement, keep it up
I'm from switzerland so I learned skiing very very early!
Это прогресс лузера.
What's with Russians and always being so angry bro@@xpoHoJIor
i feel like if you go skiiing for single days youimprove more than when siking a week in one go
As someone who is standing on skis every winter since I was 2, I have to say it is really great to see you getting into it and showing the world how one can always start picking it up and enjoy it from the beginning. Keep it up, having this much progress after only one year is really impressive!
Yeah same
I'm going on a skiing trip with my in-laws in two weeks.
Keep going! I've heard it's much harder to learn as an adult but I'm sure you'll do fine with some lessons and practice! :) Good luck.
Just read this! So cool, love the journey you went on! I'm off to Japan for the winter actually, so 3 months of skiing should be fun! Have a good one!
I can agree with this comment. for another 21 days I’m going to be waiting for skiing Season to start .
I love Egypt and the Egyptian culture. This video and its comments are getting more and more exciting!
Actually I would like some advice so I’m American been skiing my whole life and I would like to take my girlfriend who is Egyptian with me as a side note she has never seen a real mountain before lived her whole life in Cairo before coming to the states and what helped you to get going need advice for her
@@warcrimeenjoyer219to avoid injury and gradually progress, I believe ski lessons is the way to go then practice what was taught in the lessons.
Lovely comment, Mr Cairo! I hope your sons are doing well.
Such a great story, thank you for sharing!
My favourite upload yet, said a non-skiing gardener here.
Loving the relaxed vibes of this one, fantastic editing, and of course your dedication in reaching the goal(s) you set yourself.
Great work, Alex 👏🏻
Some good skiing advice for anyone, of any level-
1) keep your shins in contact with the front of your boots (this helps keep your knees bent, which helps with stability. It also helps you absorb bumps and uneven terrain)
2) Steer with your feet, not your shoulders. Put presser on the inside/outside of your skis to turn so you're not flinging your upper body around
3) Bellybutton stays downhill
4) If you're trying a new technique for the first time and it feels weird, you're probably doing it right.
100% yes. Lovely work as always!
thanks so much, this comment made me happy!
Phil’s smile at 26:19 is all of our reactions seeing your improvement :) So glad TH-cam pushed me this update
ahh that's so nice!
There doesn't appear to be much you cannot do, Alex. I love your self confidence and sense of adventure. You smashed it!
Ta! :)
Yes, don't compare yourself from others but compare your new self from your old you. You have gone a long way chap! Thanks for sharing this video.
Thanks Chris, appreciate the offer!
Im 36 years old and went skiing a week ago first time and then second time was this week. I am still learning the basics. This was a great video.
as someone from Austria who often skis in kitzbühel and the region and who enjoyed your videos in the past i can only thank you for a wonderful video crossover between you and my home country!
ah great to hear you enjoyed! It's an amazing country!
That's great! Funny you just commented. Right now I'm in the process of planning a trip to BC next year! Do you have a contact email or instagram?
I just love this video, relaxing brutally honest with not much heavy editing and it just shows life as a skier so nicely
I have been skiing for over 40 years! But YOU!!! made me wanna go skiing NOW - what a gr8 person you are11
Alex your videos are incredible and have such a sense of life ☀️ Continue to share your fascinating journeys with us
* Your story telling is wonderful.
Ah thank you!
Skiing, fishing, beekeeping, travelling, mead and beer making... Alex is just doing constant side quests now! Love it! :D
I’m Austrian. I don’t particularly like skiing. But it’s so cool to see you loving this odd thing that people do for fun in the mountains.
Awesome video! As a skeacher I love seeing people motivated to keep going, standing back up and not letting themselves discourage! Love the mindset
(But it also might just be that I'm a really bad learner haha..)
Skiing just makes all your problems go away (for a week, at least), it's the best thing ever.
It's relatable to me, I'm an angler but some of the equally good parts of my life have been exploring and adventuring like you are
Thanks so much! :)
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
after seeing your journey from the beginning to one year improvement that make me a lot of encouragement, thank you Alex and i will start it over at Japan of my skiing.
Keep at it!
This was so enjoyable to watch. You make all the new experiences you do so exciting and bring joy to those who follow you. Thank you Alex.
That is the most inspiring ski video I have ever seen!!!! You can be proud. Catching the essence of what skiing is all bout, as a beginner.
I, myself have only been skiing for 4 seasons now (with covid in between), and beginning really to catch on. (I am twice your age, so it requires some training to stay fit enough) 🙂
You have felt he satisfaction of being able to pick up more speed and control in such a short time, and to me it looks damn impressive.
I did see your first ski video (and liked it) a year ago sitting by the computer, dreaming og the next trip to Wagrain (Austria).
Keep on skiing! - The Dane
Awwww, big hugs. I’m headed to ski school in about an hour and a half this morning so this touched my heart seeing how determined you were.
Good luck!
This made me grateful for learning how to ski before I can remember. Your progress is insane.
Thanks for the tips Geoff!
This video is truly a great inspiration to start the day with a strong and optimistic spirit. Wishing everyone good health and peace in all circumstances! hug from Vietnam
Your videos are always so calming yet entertaining, it's inspiring to see you trying out new things all the time!
I’ll try to make a video each year!
Wow, it was so nice to see Phil's reaction to your improvement!!!
This is cool! Watching someone's first year of skiing. As an old-timer instructor, this just reminds me why I've been teaching this for soo long.
that's so fun going back to your first ski instructor and then see their jaw on the floor! Really well done! I am jealous!
Keep at it!
Thanks for the advise! :)
It took me 50 years to start, and now 4 years later I'm on my way to Breckenridge, Colorado in a week.
Your video gave me a lot of great tips because I’m an intermediate skier struggling with improving my skiing technique! Thank you so much, and keep up with the great videos!
This is exactly the mode and calmness you should have learning how to ski. Very well done to you and your instructor and self-teaching in britain ;)
I really like your commentary.
Keep on skiing and enjoy the mountains (maybe next year).
🤙🏻
The way you entered the skiing world by starting from zero and putting this amount of sacrifice and passion really impressed me!!
I'm glad Phil thought you were amazing, as I sure thought you had gotten SO much better! Doing boxes already! WOW is all I can say! Good for you!
I hope you document when you first execute carves - that happiness is similar to the first time you go down a ski hill.🥰
I also relate so hard to the part where you wonder how it took you so long to attempt this sport.
The hardest part for me was figuring out the ski lifts.
Thanks Greg!
Alex I recommend ski socks it helps with the shin pain. I don’t know I just thought it would helpful. Love your videos.
thanks!
