A TOUR ON BOARD HMS TRINCOMALEE AT THE MUSEUM OF THE ROYAL NAVY IN HARTLEPOOL - 20th May 2018

A tour around HMS Trincomalee, a Leda Class Sailing Frigate of the Royal Navy that was built in 1817 and is today preserved at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Hartlepool.

Before restoration and in the 50,s was anchored just inside Portsmouth Harbour. It was known as T.S.Foudroyant. Training ship for around 80 boys from schools around the UK learning the rudiments of seamanship. Fantastic week, sailed to the Isle of Wight in one of the 3 sailing vessels they had anchored near by. Health and Safety would have quaked in their boots had they seen the antics we got up to in those great days. I could not even swim then. Must try and visit the old ship Thanks for posting this.

Great day out with glimpses of history of what life was like in Nelsons times. The Dock side buildings particularly fascinating. Great effort by the city and the people of Hartlepool. A northern treasure to be looked after..thank you Hartlepool.

I spent a week on the TS to try way back in 1964 as I was keen to join the Wrens so it was not only boys that got to spend time on it. Happy memories of that week.

Unbelievably, the company that built trincomalee, the Wadia Group, is still around... is Trincomalee around because of its lucky nail in its keel?

I had the pleasure of doing that tour in 2011 at the Historic Quay in my old home town of Hartlepool. A very rewarding experience: I was full of admiration for the efforts of the tireless volunteers who made it possible.

It was used by a holiday company for unaccompanied children and I spent a week on it in maybe 1978.

Me lol. Pretty astonishing to think about britishers man. They built this beast in 1817. British truly were the king of the seas because of their great sailboat engineering.
