Greetings, As always another brilliant detailed video 🇺🇲🎉🍾🇺🇲 I bought my crf300 rally because of you, now I have to buy the 2024 drz400 yellow soon. Keep producing more videos about the drz
Nice chat mate. A light bike is a smart move. Maybe one day I’ll downsize too but loving my new steed at the moment. Just gotta remind myself I’m 60 now, so steady as she goes. Catch ya later.
Love the bike. Set up nicely I got the Dr Tanami edition they do a good job with their special editions. Enjoy and looking forward to many more adventures.
Nice one mate! Mine is a 2021 as well with a lot of the same accessories. I still have the stock tank though, which I'm considering upgrading. It's definitely a DR ZED!!! 🤣 Yeah I'd love to get out in the outback on my DRZ, but not too sure on actually doing the Simpson at my age. Maybe... I was right into archery for 11 years as a member of the Australian Bowhunters Association, but I used to just enjoy shooting at clubs, never got into the hunting side of it. Sounds like you got a good deal there. A sensible swap and the right time!
Cheers Mr Aus! 2021, the perfect vintage...lol I'd ride out to Big Red - ride up it, watch the sunset, and call that a victory 😁. My timing was good with the DRZ and sale of my Rally - and I'm loving the Suzuki 😎👍
Great summary as always Phil and I fully understand why you have swapped. The stats of the DRZ speak for themselves and once again, you've inspired me to get one of these little beatuies. Problem is here in Sweden they are like rocking horse shit to get hold of. All the best to ya//Marc
Cheers Marc! Yeah, and you may only have the SM and S model? The E is the punchy one virtually all Aussie opt for. Think DR650 power and torque, without the weight - pretty bloody impressive machines. No wonder people take them to fun, super remote, hard-core places 💪
Thanks for the video! As much as I enjoy owning my Honda CB500X, the weight of the 500X limits, and tests me in many ways. (199 KG Kreb weight) The DRZ400E looks like another fantastic "all-rounder" MC. Plenty enough grunt, good reliability, but not the heavy weight of the 500X.
Thanks Sean, and yep 200 kg is pretty hefty - great planted bike I'm sure, but un-nerving in tricky stuff I'd image. Nothing is perfect hey, just ride within the limitations of bike and rider I reckon. Catch ya mate 🍻
Make sure you put some strips of sticky neoprene along the rad guards where it can contact with the tank. I have the same tank and it came with foam strips for this purpose. The tank wings are quite flexible and do move around. Couldnt see foam in your vid and would hate for it to rub through if they wernt included with your tank.
I had a DRZ for around 6 years a fantastic bike , I now have a Rally , I think you will miss the 6th gear mate . I do get the Kms thing but . I know yours was pretty stock , mine is modified with ECU , pipe and airbox mod so my Rally HP wasn’t to different to the DRZ . “ and the 6th gear “ 😂😂😂
Great bike and always good if you can do a cost effective change over. Looking forward to the future videos with it. I am loving my bike, but she is a heavy girl. Have taken it off road a few times and loving it.
I was waiting for the Kove 450 Rally but no sight it is coming Oz. So built my own bike also using a drz400. Rally tower, Safari tank, Sargent seat. Suspension upgrade. I run with 15/42 sprockets setup. Great for the road and still great off road. It climbs all types off tracks. I will post a review on my channel soon and will let you know so you can have a look. This is my second drz build so pop over to my channel and have a look at my first one. It may be of help with tips. Cheers.
That was one fancy looking DRZ mate! You had it set up beautifully. Some $$ put into it, but well worth it by the look and sounds of the performance 👍 Cheers mate
So far Andrew, the 400 is every bit the 650, minus the weight. Just needs to be geared up (15/43 for me) gives the 400 hwy ability, (sit on 100 kph sweetly) and everything else fine 👍
I rode a DRZ last year and it felt great. Not sure my Rally would be worth too much now..53,000 and held together with duct tape and cable ties 😂 If you make it close to SA 😉 Look forward to your new adventures👍
I've just bought the all new CF Moto 450MT as my 1st off road adventure bike. I know what you mean about power being addictive. My road bike as a Yamaha FJR 1300, and boy does it go. Both bikes are totally different but both fun. I have a great pair
@@MidCoastAdventures thanks mate. I'm loving the MT only done 500km so far and I love the FJR so I can't get rid of that. My wife loves the FJR too so it's definitely staying
Does the DRz400 have 2 radiator coils on her? I never noticed this or did ya add a 2nd one? I think that's a good idea just as many add a coil to cool their car transmission. "Content" winds up being a large reason that people swap out bikes so as I'm deciding what bike to purchase, I plan on keeping whatever I buy. But I'm a private person w/o a channel. I don't even have a camera so I'm grateful to learn all about the choices out there. I subb'd here b/c you speak in a way I understand. That's a big thing to my way of thinking. How fast does she travel on the roads now, with the 15/42 sprockets setup? Did I get those numbers right? Anyhoo, I'm off to look at more of your stuff. peace
G'day mate, yep the E model has two radiator coils. I guess it's the more "tuned up" of the models (SM and S) Those buying a bike for content have too much money!...lol I buy a bike because it makes sense for me during that time - like my DR650 for longer range loaded trips, The Rally for local exploring, with a few longer trips. Now the DRZ for a mix of both local and long range. The 15/42 combo is working beautifully for me, plenty of grunt still and sits on 100 kph sweetly - about as fast as I go on any bike - and you can still use the stock chain. Cheers mate 👍
I appreciate the heads up on stuff I did not know. Who'd have guessed the two radiators on the one bike? Not me but I could see someone adding a 2nd one to make sure their sH!T didn't overheat, like in your country. We got spots here to so it's just one of the "Version's" of that bike. Cool/kool & you've gone all out w/ their bikes; DR/DRz both of which can be worked on & who've loads of aftermarket products. Australian's really do it up well from what I've seen & both the bikes you've chosen are on my lists as I research for the right bike. "INTENT & Cost" are the main factors in buying but most do not really know what their intent is until after they start riding? I don't want to be that guy so I've got my list, all the probable MOD's & their costs that I feel I'll need down the road & then how feasible it'll be to even do those mods. And believe it or not I've got everything from a Honda 150L up to VSTROM 650's. A bunch are between those but I'm saving right now & learning all of what I wrote. Seeing the 2 radiators means I missed something.... lol, I'll be digging back into it & my intent is 80%/20% to the asphalt side. So I need a bike that can go my local speed limits 75MPH(120KM). This almost limits the DRz but that's why I asked sprocket questions, yeah, I'm even entering into that to see if I can get the speeds out of it that I'll need so I thank you for posting the video & taking time to let me know stuff. peace
@@MidCoastAdventures Cheers , yes lowering by low to moderate amounts they say, has negligible effect on handling . Trail braked too hard into a slimy mossy corner was going down , but ABS pulsed and I stayed up. That slimy green stuff is a worry on the backroads around Coffs .
drz400e weighs less than the crf300l and rally and it has more power than the dr650. drz400e stock at the wheel 39.8hp 26.92 lb/ft dr650se stock at the wheel 35.1hp 32.2 lb.ft crf300 stock at the wheel 22.7hp 16.7 lb/ft as you can see the drz400e has the most hp. the dr650 has the most torque and both suzuki's are nearly double the crf300 in hp or torque.

Set up and ready to go looking forward to seeing your videos of you venturing further out west cheers Phil 👍👍
Thanks Johnny, and same here with the longer-range trips! Cheers mate 🍻

the good old trusty 400, how could you go wrong
Love the bike. Set up nicely I got the Dr Tanami edition they do a good job with their special editions. Enjoy and looking forward to many more adventures.
Thanks John. The DR is a classic - enjoy it mate 😎
That's set up nicely Phil.
The 400's a nice compromise between the DR and CRF.
Well put Coobye. Yep. it's right between the two - both in power and technology. Cheers mate 👍
BTW a lot of the Horizons Unlimited hardcore travellers have lots of miles on the DRZ and glowing reviews.

Cool Bogor, glad you're getting some time in the saddle offroad on the bike 😎👍
That was my choice for short rides in the rough. Have a Himalayan 450 for long rides but keeping the KLX400e for the tough stuff.

Just pulled the same trick with my 21’DR650. Upgrade to a brand spanka GasGas ES700. Nice Work btw 👍Enjoy
Nice,at 50 years young with previous back trauma I really have to think about picking up my bush pig when i drop it....
Hmmmm
I’m interested to see how you go with the DRZ compared to the old 650 , I’ve been thinking of doing the same thing , even tho I love my DR650

U ol fellas make me giggle 😂nice vid, great bike but my ❤ still with my pig
Mate I’ll put my hand up to do a Birdsville ride in the future if you want company😃solid vid Phil cheers for the mention as well mate appreciate it☺️👍
Will be in spring I'd say, for 4 nights or so - you're welcome to come mate. But I know you'd keep heading west 🤣
@@MidCoastAdventures hahahaha
@@MidCoastAdventures 4 nights from South West Rocks and back Phil?. That's about a 1,000kms a day.
@@coobye I meant 4 nights each way. But could probably do a week return 👍
Nice move Phil. You would have been crazy to pass up on that DRZ. Fucking mint!
Ah thanks mate 😎👍
I would never trade a DR650 for a CRF300. The rally is only 30lbs lighter with half the power.

They still make these?.....i brought one 20 years ago . .stupidly sold it ..
Yep, still make them, and still virtually unchanged since 2000 👍
Lookin forward to Kaputar, the only place on the planet with red slugs - and I don't mean trouser snakes 😋
🤣 I have seen them in pics. They look cool, will hunt around to film one when I head out 👍

Hi mate… does the DRZ feel tall after having the rally?
Oh and what is your height?

It's definitely taller than the Honda, but I'm still flat footed with knees just bent. I'm 5,11. The seat is about 30 mm lower than stock 👍
