Love your diy tank ! My mom got her turtles when she was 5 and now she’s 40 and they been in plastic basically all their life and their doing amazing !!! I understand plastic isn’t ideal but works best and it’s cheap
You’ll get one in the future! :D, and that’s great, you’re gonna be a good future turtle owner if you ever get one. They’re fun and easy to take care of
how do you clean the tub with all the sand? currently my tub is bare bottom cause he poops a lot, but would like to switch to a bit natural look than what i have
You can use a mixture of water and white vinegar if you want to disinfect. Make sure you rinse well after. Traces of vinegar will lower your pH (not really a big deal for turtles as long as you literally arent dumping vinegar into the tank, but if you have fish too they are far more sensitive to pH changes).
bro that means a lot seriously lol i try my best. if you got any friends or family that loves turtle, recommend them my channel if you can! im trying to grow, and thanks again brotha. welcome to our little community!
That bin has no problems where with a lot of water, it 'bends' the storage bin outwards? I saw some pics of plastic bins have that problem, maybe because it's not as sturdy as the one you got The rocks you found at your house is safe? Like from the outdoors/garden/neighbourhood?
The one I have is pretty sturdy. But it will bend outward if I filled it up all the way to the top. However, I didn’t have issues filling it up to the halfway mark The rocks were from my garden and I did a good cleaning on it before I used it for my tub
@@Anna-qwerty I recommend you get a stock tank if you plan on filling your tank all the way up! :) they're really strong and cheap, I have a video on it where I set one up for my turtles (110 gallons)
For a big female like her, you are going to most likely need a 100 gallon enclosure for her as females will get up to 10-12 inches. I highly recommend getting the tuff stuff stock tanks, theyre cheap :)
@@kimicat4102 yea you definitely can, it’ll actually make it easier for you to clean since the poop and stuff won’t be stuck under the gravel If you’re using rocks for the basking platform just make sure they are big river rocks/ stones (or anything bigger then the turtles heard) rather than small aquarium gravel since they may accidentally swallow them, causing impaction
I got it from my local fish store. Most fish stores (not big brand names like petco) should sell them :). If anything, you can also look it up on amazon or other websites
yes! a heat bulb is absolutely necessary, it entices them to bask. without it, they arent going to want to go up there. lemme know if you have any other questions, i will be happy to help and also don't forget to subscribe for more turtle videos :D
@@TurtDu I already subscribed yo! Okay thanks a lot! I have more doubts other than this where I can connect you ..is Instagram fine? I really have a lot of questions
guys big PSA !! most storage & plastic containers are made of PVC which is not only toxic to animals but to humans as well after long term exposure. pls make sure that the container you’re using is PVC FREE or says its pet/animal safe. if you are unsure buy a pond liner, they are safe for aquatic life. that’s all, have a nice day :)
Plz giv me a idea for 153 gallon pool which is made by pvc stell pipe and there is a thick liner but its round so need a tip for basking bcz in India pool like your are costly and cant found
I see u didn't cycle the tank . Is that necessary for turtle or not? Not trying to be mean or anything because I heard that fish need beneficial bacteria and turtles dont
That’s a good question! And thankfully you do not have to cycle your tank with turtles due to the fact that they are extremely hardy animals and don’t need the beneficial bacteria establish like fish do
Turt Du I already have a bird and I’m trying to convince my mom for a turtle , I already have a filter and a tub and I have the money for everything I hope she says yes
Good lookout for that. And yea they can, it usually becomes an issue once they grow bigger, definitely will be removing the plants. As for sand, the risk of impacting is really low since the particles are small but turtle experts often suggest fine grain sand which are safe
Thanks for the lookout! I definitely agree that gravel should not be used but I been told by turtle experts that fine grain sand is safe which I have over the gravel portion that was used to make the basking area taller

Nice pond
Bobby The Irish Dog thank you very much!
For the rocks, do you just use water to rinse or do you have to disinfect?
I just rinse (maybe like 3 times)
You can use a mixture of water and white vinegar if you want to disinfect. Make sure you rinse well after. Traces of vinegar will lower your pH (not really a big deal for turtles as long as you literally arent dumping vinegar into the tank, but if you have fish too they are far more sensitive to pH changes).

How do you keep it clean? I am planning to do this for my 2 sliders but with a 40 gallon container.
Having a filter that’s rated at least 2-3x the size of your tank/ tub and also I do water changes once a week (25% of the water)
Nice 👍
thanks a lot! :)
Nice video! :D
thank you very much!!
