Could be the Samuel Principle. Previous generations were warned, and headed not the words, so they no longer speak about it. Look how many members vote for out of control Government t get what THEY want, the OPPOSITE to President Benson's Proper Role of Government talk that he shared numerous times.

Excellent treatment of the topics. Totally agree. In 1916, Sir Ernest Shackleton photographed his expedition encampment on Elephant Island just off Antarctica as he reached the ice clad island with his bedraggled crew. In 2012, I visited Elephant Island and photographed the exact same rocky beach and glacial ice. The two photographs from 1916 and 2012 are near identical. No sea level change or change in glacial ice thickness. In other words, no environmental change.
Yet, in 2017, President Oaks mentioned sea level changes as a serious thing in his BYU Hawaii commencement address. A couple of years ago, Elder Christofferson, extolled the 2030 Agenda as a positive. The church has an ever increasing financial partnership with the UN. All of these comments or associations are related to the Lord not providing enough abundance for all. How neglectful of Him. 🤔🙄

I have often been drawn back to the first chapter of the Book of Mormon, where Mormon is given the plates and told that he is the prophet. Then, we get to verse 17:
But I did remain among them, but I was forbidden to preach unto them, because of the hardness of their hearts; and because of the hardness of their hearts the land was cursed for their sake.
I think that there are many topics that we have hit this point on. The land has been cursed (economically, social contentions, politically) for the sake of the people. Hopefully after we physically see the trouble that comes with this path we have chosen, we can see spiritually again.

As a woman, I would desire the pulpit during a Priesthood meeting so I could encourage, validate, and extend empathy to the men of the Church whilst also sharing why we, the women in your lives, really need you to fulfill your divine roles to provide, preside, and protect - and do so in a way that leads to cooperation & inspiration and *not* shaming. The fact is that men & women need each other, to work cooperatively, in order to accomplish the work of the Lord.
I had several unique opportunities as a YSA Relief Society President to teach the men in Elder’s Quorum. My words as a woman landed differently than the same invitations from the EQ President. Many men in the EQ commented to me privately about how valuable it was for them to hear a woman’s perspective on why they (the men) were needed and how their service mattered (& how it impacted women when they didn’t fulfill their responsibilities, eg in home teaching).
It seems like a missed opportunity that women are not occasionally invited to address EQ or a priesthood leadership meeting.

    • @RamathRS
      @RamathRS 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

This is important. Sadly, so many men in the church are so weak... Some of it is their own fault, but some of the fault lies at the feet of the women in the church. Men have been belittled, mocked, and scorned by the women for so long. Many men have forgotten what it means to be a strong leader in their homes.
Trying to speak to the importance of men being willing and capable of protecting their families is like pulling teeth... EQ, these days, doesn't want to speak/hear anything that isn't basic pray-and-be-good.

I love all your conference topics… It’s too bad that our church deems those topics too “political“ to talk about them in lessons or sac meetings.
The only topic I would add would be calling out the LGBTQ community and it’s teaching as evil and sinful and of the devil“
Satan is very clever in the way he has defined the philosophies and lifestyles of the LGBTQ community as loving, tolerant, and inclusive.
We have let those false beliefs creep into the church and take a significant hold on the minds and hearts of the members. I have actually heard in a 5th Sunday lesson that being gay is one of the gifts of the spirit.
Members of the church need to be asked a simple question… “How do any of the LGBTQ lifestyles fit into the plan of salvation?“
Yes, we must love everyone and help them come unto Christ… But living or condoning a lifestyle in the LGBTQ community will not help.

It was usually in relation to them telling why they had left the church, or why they didn't like a doctrine they didn't want to live. BUT, after watching these videos and listening to these as podcasts over and over again, I can see what "church culture" actually is, and that it IS a bad thing. Members saying sexual sin is bad, and that males and females DO have different roles, isn't a "bad" "church culture". Or not embracing the great and abominable church. Continuing dumb things because that's what people you know have always done, is. Praying for donuts and pop to nurish and strengthen our bodies is a very low hanging fruit of church culture that really annoys me now. That's maybe the slippery slope of dumb things members do.

Abortion talk is definitely number ONE of importance. many people are against it but don’t know how to speak out and actually are afraid to do so because they worry it creates am uncomfortable spotlight. And then many don’t worry about abortion and infertility because in their non-charitable hearts and egocentric life focus they just look upon their own litter. abomination! We have experienced infertility and fought against abortion and for funding fertility treatment in the 1990’s (1998-2003), and had to endure persecution even from church members and leaders for that “the will of the lord”.
The comment of the talk earlier mentioned that “god will fight our battles…” is very often abused misused disgracefully abominably by many members and leaders as …”do nothing for nothing…” because God will fix it…
I am still so upset about this abomination in the church. I had to give up my non-profit organization then “politics has no place in the church…” they say. Now I am regurgitating.

I don't agree with all of your positions but I'm thoroughly enjoying the analysis you bring to all these matters in your podcast Connor. Keep it up!
Taking Ukraine and probably soon Taiwan as specific examples, do we not have a moral obligation to militarily support other people in their wars to protect themselves from evil ungodly dictatorships and enslavement invading and colonising them? Being in a position to do that means having a large standing army and up-to-date sufficient weaponry. And international alliances. You cannot conjure up a militia out of thin air if Russia invades. So I am interested to know more about where you draw those lines in your version of 'just war theory'
I totally agree with you regarding not initiating war and exhausting peaceful means first, but if those methods don't fail you have to be ready to go with a highly motivated and equipped military. Speak softly and carry a big stick. Having that motivated military involves to a significant extent glorifying war when it is justified.

I think you have made a lot of good points. Thank you for this video! …The only one I’m not so sure about is the last one about birth control. The quotes you shared about it being an evil practice are strong words. If it is a sin, I would see it as a sin of omission- and the only way I could see birth control as a sin is if it kept you from obeying the commandment to multiply and replenish the earth. God has not given us a number on how many children we must have to fulfill this commandment. I think there needs to be room for conversation on this point. Is it possible to use birth control and also keep the Lord’s commandment to multiply and replenish the earth? I believe so. Even for a woman who has many children, birth control may be used during postpartum to allow for necessary time for the body to heal and milk supply to be established to provide for the baby already born. Birth control may be used to prevent conception due to health issues. I don’t think that prevention is inherently evil- even if those who take credit for inventing birth control have evil intentions. We have to look at the principle- the commandment is to multiple and replenish the earth and I believe that it is within the rights of the parents to decide how they might fulfill that commandment for the Lord. Women especially as pregnant mothers must not be shamed into this idea that taking breaks between children is evil and that any measure to prevent pregnancy in their family is wrong. Rather then saying birth control is evil (which God has not said) I would say He has given us two commandments on the issue- to not kill or do anything like it, and to be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth.

Sorry Connor. Most topics I can agree with you on except the idea of what is a peacemaker. Our Church history, the purpose of the Mormon battalion, Brigham Young's teachings as that if we give up our guns for peace to the Indians, the Lord would not protect them, but rather they had to prepare in many ways of self defence, and Brigham said they would then be protected,-Journal of Discourse, and the story of Lemhis people being slaughtered until they sought weapons and stood to fight, then the Lord protected them and they had a great victory. Not to mention that nearly 1/3 of the Book of Mormon is about self preservation, so that the Nephites could retain their religious rights and their properties. Chief Capitan Moroni is the perfect example, and the only one ever mentioned in scripture, that if we would be like Capitan Moroni, Satan's power would be bound. Joseph and Hyrum both had pistols on them and used them at their attackers in Carthage... Just to sight a few examples, that a peacemaker is more than being a pacifist and not standing for truth, freedom and even the shedding of blood, if called upon. Nephi was a peacemaker, yet always prepared for war, at war and very self sufficient. That being said, we do not desire war or confrontation and work to get past that stage in the most peaceful and less destructive way possible...

13 And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord came to them in their afflictions, saying: Lift up your heads and be of good comfort, for I know of the covenant which ye have made unto me; and I will covenant with my people and deliver them out of bondage.
14 And I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, even while you are in bondage; and this will I do that ye may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions.
15 And now it came to pass that the burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethren were made light; yea, the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord.
16 And it came to pass that so great was their faith and their patience that the voice of the Lord came unto them again, saying: Be of good comfort, for on the morrow I will deliver you out of bondage.

I think it's important to look at the ideas and principles of a movement and not the name. The principles are always the same the name just changes.
6 Therefore I write unto you, desiring that ye would yield up unto this my people, your cities, your lands, and your possessions, rather than that they should visit you with the sword and that destruction should come upon you. 7 Or in other words, yield yourselves up unto us, and unite with us and become acquainted with our secret works, and become our brethren that ye may be like unto us-not our slaves, but our brethren and partners of all our substance.
These principles are the same as socialism which is just the patient version of communism. The government satan wanted was communism and he convinces people of that same government and how good and moral it is. Gadianton robbers/ secret combinations = socialism/ communism.

There is so much history that is never taught to us in school, such as what Connor mentioned about the US govt overthrowing other governments for economic reasons. Makes me wonder what the real reason for the US supporting the Ukraine war might be. Abortion is a nightmare. I don't understand how anyone can condone it. And I have to say that I'm very grateful for birth control. Getting pregnant and having a baby every 18 months would have been too much for me personally: physically, mentally and emotionally although others looking at me may not see anything wrong with me or understand why. Truly, not every woman is built physically or emotionally to handle giving birth to and raising 10+ kids. I am perfectly content to leave the number of children a woman should have between herself, her husband and the Lord and not judge no matter how few or how many children she chooses to have. I'll be honest, I've had a hard time in the past with being pretty judgemental about that sort of thing, but I've seen women in both circumstances... those that can have no children, or struggle to have more than one, and I've seen those who have so many children that they seriously struggle financially, and even finding a place to live is tough. You try finding a place that will rent you an apartment when you have a bunch of children. Landlords here in Utah, at least, can be about as picky as they want to be as there are usually plenty of applicants for a rental unit. They'll rent to the couple with no kids, or just two or three kids instead. There are challenges and trials on either side, and we should be supportive since we usually don't know everything they're going through.

You are only half correct on the war point. It depends on every circumstance individually. Jehovah is the God of war. And he's also the prince of peace. Lord of hosts means God of armies. Yes we must trust the lord to fight our battles but all of these are true and scriptural:
Sometimes God commands or requires his people to lay down arms and surrender and be killed by their enemies. Sometimes God has the righteous sneak off in the dead of night to a new place under the cover of darkness. Sometimes the enemies of God's people turn on themselves and kill each other. Sometimes God requires his people to make major defenses and preparations for battle. Sometimes God makes the righteous extremely powerful and prosperous so that their enemies are afraid to come against them in war.
Sometimes God has his king or priest slaughter entire armies (David slew tens of thousands and was not condemned by God for this) sometimes God commands his people to completely wipe out their enemies and leave nothing alive.
"The Lord is a man of war. The Lord is his name." Leviticus 15:3
And D&C tells us 101:80 that the American revolution had to happen and was blessed by the lord through wise men raised up for that very purpose and the land was redeemed through the shedding of blood.
See Connor, it does no good to cherry pick. You have to take every situation as it's own new situation.

I believe Israel has met the Lord's qualifications to do everything necessary to completely eliminate Hamas. The Nation of Jordon was created to be the Palestinian state. Most Palestinians in Israel chose not to take advantage of free land in Jordan when it was created.
Just like the immigration issue in the US may very well be God's way of accomplishing His purpose without imagrants being required to kiss Caesar's ring, the current conflict in Israel may be God's way of giviing Israel the freedom to build the third temple.
Elijah chastised king Jehocham (sp?) that he should have stuck the ground with the staff 5 or more things instead of only 3 times, so the enemies of Israel will be completely defeated. If Israel went, for example, into Italy, and took control of Italy by military force, they would not be justified. They, however, have been occupied for several hundreds of years. God gave them all the land they are fighting in.
In the upcoming Civil war in the US that Joseph Smith saw, the Saints will not get involved until another country invades us to take the US. The civil war between the Democrats and Republicans, and people in general because of the collapse of the US dollar, is off limits to us.
The Natzi regime was killing people for the sole purpose of ethnic cleansing, and that included more than the Jews. No greater love is there than when a person gives their life for their friends, Jesus said.
I was for the second Iraq war until I saw Sadam Hussain comply with everything the US required, even destroying missiles that did not violate the treaty made after the first Iraq war, then I no longer supported it. I should have not supported it at all, which I realize after your musing. I am too prone to being war like, and I did not look at false defense.
