I want to add my testimony to lend support for the truth of what you teach. I was was once bumping around the house chatting with my mom, and next I found myself getting up and going to my room to pray (I can only imagine her surprise when she looked in a few minutes later and saw me praying away). Anyway, let me just preference this by saying that I didn't feel any great pressing burden to pray either, or have any great pressing need or sense of danger for which I was praying. I just started praying in tongues and before long, I was really into it. Then somehow, the interpretation came and I recognised that I was praying for the governor of my state! Very absurd indeed. I really didn't have a habit of praying for political leaders. I know I should, but I want to point out that I didn't do this as a matter of course and it wasn't something that just slipped in my head as a habitual prayer point or anything like that. And yet, here I was praying so deeply and specifically for this man, and just seemingly so randomly. In fact, in the middle of a very chill day hanging at home with my mom.
Well, that same day, a couple of hours after, news started filtering in that the governor had collapsed suddenly that afternoon in the government house!
Please don't be quick to dismiss speaking in tongues. God clearly hasn't written it off yet, and just from this experience I now know that it's a great channels for laymen like me to minister to other of God's people. #Ezekiel 22:30 #I Was Found

I grew up baptist too (IFB)... and over the past year I have come to the realization that although we thought we were right about everything... there was so much of the words of God that we don’t believe... they were right on the edge of some of this but afraid to step over the line into the “spooky” part of the supernatural. I can’t say I’m Baptist any more...

Except in Acts 2 the languages were known languages, and understood by the audience as it was their native languages. in 1 Cor 14 Paul says that if there is no translator, then one should not speak in a foreign language because the hearers who are unlearned in that language may not understand.
He then goes on to quote Isaiah 28, where he says the languages of nations or foreign tongues are not for believers but for unbelievers, and that the Lord is speaking to "this people".....meaning Israel. Tongues (languages of nations) was a sign to Israel. Also in Acts 2 , the audience were Jews dispersed to various regions in the known world.
To the Jewish mind, tongues (languages) of a foreign nation would signify judgement impending, a warning of Judgement. Rome would siege and destroy Jerusalem and its temple in 70 AD, which is what Acts 2 is about (quoting Joel) Read below:
Indeed, the Lord will teach this people [in a more humiliating way] By [men with] stammering lips and a foreign tongue, He who said to them, “This is the place of quiet, give rest to the weary,” And, “This is the resting place,” yet they would not listen. Therefore the word of the Lord to them will be [merely monotonous repetitions]: “Precept upon precept, precept upon precept, Rule upon rule, rule upon rule, Here a little, there a little.” That they may go and stumble backward, and be broken, ensnared, and taken captive. Therefore, hear the word of the Lord , you arrogant men Who rule this people who are in Jerusalem!
    Isaiah 28:11‭ AMP
It is written in the Law, By men of strange languages and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and not even then will they listen to Me, says the Lord. [Isa. 28:11, 12.]
    1 Corinthians 14:21 AMPC
Moses giving similar warnings to Israel in the old testament :
The Lord will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you shall not understand,
    Deuteronomy 28:49 AMPC
Behold, I am bringing a nation upon you from afar, O house of Israel, says the Lord. It is a mighty and enduring nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, nor can you understand what they say.
    Jeremiah 5:15 AMPC

In the original Greek that the N.T. was written in, our English word " tongues" is singular not plural. It is one spiritual language. In Acts ch.2 When the believers recieved the Holy Spirit and began to speak in " tongues" the miracle for the men in the crowd wasn't that the believers were miraculously speaking in their native languages it was they were hearing what the believers were saying in one spiritual language in their native languages
That's why three times the men said," How hear we them in our languages ?"
As far as the scripture that says, "Tongues are a sign not for those that believe but for those that believe not" Believers know what speaking in" tongues" are for unbelievers to hear someone, especially someone they know, speak in this language is proof to them that something supernatural is taking place and proof of the gospel truth

. Yahweh told me that people who have the
counterfeit holy spirit and people faking the gift of tongues are going to have
confusion of speech. You can not be
taught to speak in tongues. Here are the
scriptures about the one gift of the Holy Spirit speaking in tongues acts
2:3-4, 10:44, and these scriptures are about all of the gifts 1st
Cor. 12:6-13. You do not need for people
to lay hands on you to get the Holy Spirit.

well i have Holy Spirit, but i haven't been able to speak in tongues. I ALSO can read, and see that ACTS 2 .. is Peter PREACHING the GOSPEL to other nations and other foreigners (different language people; Example French, Spanish, German) who came to visit Jerusalem. because if you read it in ACTS 2:6 it says "and when the multitude came together and were confused because everyone heard them speak in HIS OWN LANGUAGE" then, ACTS 2:7 says "Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another; (im sure in their OWN LANGUAGE); LOOK , are not all these who speak Galileans?? ACTS 2:8 " And HOW is it that WE (foreigners) HEAR each in our OWN language. and then it goes to list all the different foreign places which these people were from in ACTS 2:9.
NOW in 1 Corinthians i do believe PAUL was talking about a Heavenly Language; tongues of angels, and how the spirit speaks for him.. i get that part but ACTS 2 isnt "goo goo gaa gaa" it was an amazing Gift to give them to speak to the foreigners to get the Gospel out.
But as for the Heavenly language; tongues of angels. i do want that and believe in it.. my point is, i have Holy Spirit and i dont speak in tongues, and ALSO i wanted to make a point on ACTS 2. =] i hope that all makes sense.

In the original Greek that the N.T. was written in, the word " tongues" is singular not plural and is one spiritual language. It does sound odd to us at first because it doesn't follow the same linguistics as our native languages.
The miracle for the men in the crowd in Acts 2 wasn't that the apostles were miraculously speaking in their native languages but they were miraculously Hearing what the apostles were saying in one spiritual language in their individual native languages

SPEAKING IN "TONGUES" IS NOT A SUPERNATURAL ABILITY; NEITHER FROM GOD, NOR THE DEVIL...BUT IT CAN LEAD TO BONDAGE!
"Speaking in tongues" is neither from God or the Devil; it's just letting yourself vocalize sounds without using your conscious mind to formulate them into known words. In other words, it's a way of letting your unconscious mind (the "lizard" brain) in the back of your head express itself. This by-pass of the active-thinking part of the brain to give expression to the other, largely emotional, part does have some benefit, especially when people first begin.
They frequently report feeling a "great sense of release." Sure they do! They're releasing a lot of pent-up feelings. What is interesting is how, over time, the great feelings associated with speaking in tongues begin to fade and becomes routine.
This is why Pentecostals/Charismatics like to talk about their first experience of getting "baptized in the Holy Spirit" with a LOT of nostalgia--because they long for that first "high" they had and, only rarely, usually at some revival meeting with some exceptionally better music or preacher than what they're used to, do they get the same feeling again.
But when Christian Fundamentalists insist that what Pentecostals/Charismatics call "speaking in tongues" is any different from what happened on the Feast of Pentecost described in Acts, Chapter Two, it's just because they're not taking into account how 40 plus years (when Luke wrote down what others remembered from that highly emotional prayer meeting of Jesus' followers who were absolutely convinced he had risen from the dead and was going to make a grand entrance into Jerusalem, any minute, to seize the Throne of David) can result in a LOT of embellishment, like, the sounds coming out of their mouths being understood by others as actual foreign languages! There were, after all, many pilgrims in town that day, and hearing dozens of people who were recognized as Galileans (which in Jerusalem meant something on the order of "uneducated "hillbillies") speaking all sorts of "languages" was very likely taken by some as authentic languages the many out-of-towners could possibly understand.
Perhaps the best explanation for why speaking in tongues seems like speaking in an actual language is because the tongues speaker is actually allowing some unlocked memories of "proto-speech" speak again. In other words, we humans spend about a year speaking in "baby talk," which is largely an emotional language that prepares our brains for day with those practiced sounds can be attached to meaningful ideas. The thinking here is that the back of the brain "remembers" this language, but doesn't get to use it once a toddler begins associating certain sounds with meaning, but speaking in tongues allows a person to speak in their long-idol baby language once again, in that one by-passes the conscious mind to articulate these consciously forgotten sounds. This hypothesis has not been yet tested and confirmed (one would probably have to take recordings of toddlers in Pentecostal/Charismatic families and then compare their baby talk to their tongues many years later after their initial "pentecostal experience." By itself, then, speaking in tongues is not harmful in any way, and it might even provide a degree of emotional relief, especially when combined with prayer and song.
However, when manipulative preachers and teachers use the experience to convince a convert into thinking it’s possible for any number of “other” supernatural experiences to be real, then some really bad things can and do happen!
For example, a typical abuse is to con believers into contributing money far beyond what they can afford in order to “invest in the Lord’s work” in the belief that what they “sow” will “reap” 10 times the amount in “financial blessings.” Of course, they’re directed to sow that money in the church or parachurch organization the “prosperity” preacher is telling them how they become wealthy if only they “obey God’s principal of giving!”
Another abuse is how these same people will find it easy to believe faith healing really works, which is fine as long as they continue to get help from real, science-based medicine, but sometimes, they’ll forgo real medical help with the thought that God won’t “bless them with his healing power unless they show true faith.”
And where things get really bad is when these same people are then convinced, after their “faith has been start-jumped” by speaking in tongues, God can speak to them directly and tell them exactly what to do, in every decision, big and small! They’re often told, even before they’re converted, that if they’re having any problems in life (and these churches intentionally try to catch people at tough times because that’s when they are most vulnerable), all they need do is “Let the Lord tell you want to do, in all things, and then you’ll be so happy!
So, sure enough, once they’ve experienced the “miracle the Holy Spirit speaking through them,” then it becomes very easy to convince them the thoughts they have in their mind or feelings they get are God’s voice talking directly to them…which seems really great until they start doing what those “divine” thoughts and feelings are “leading them” to do! In short order, they begin doing the dumbest things-from selling their home to donate it to a TV Evangelist to marrying the first person they meet at church…only to find out they would not be rewarded with $Millions in return blessings and the person they said “I do!” turns out to be a psychopath!
Then the comes the coup de grace! As these not-so-new converts finally approach their preachers with their heads hung low to confess, “I was so sure the Lord led me to…” and then spill their guts about how everything went so wrong, the preacher, with such a look of empathy and reassuring voice says, “I understand. You’re still so young in the Lord! It takes a long time to clearly understand the voice of the Lord! So, for now, just let those of us who are mature in the Lord guide you! We’ll pray and let you know what God wants you to do!”
In other words, it’s at this point they have you like putty in their hands, because they have become God to you!

    Why speak in tongues

  • @kallyjon
    @kallyjon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

God spoke, and in all the dimensions of the Bible, never has it been said, put to paper or passed on vis the Angels, that there is a secret type of language, or heavenly tongue we will speak in Gods kingdom or here on earth, nor do we need that tongue here on earth, for if so, then Jesus would been the demonstrator and teacher of that tongue. WHEN HE RECEIVED THE HOLY SPIRIT, never happened
For the Speaking in Tongues, has to the Christ, always been our human language, with all speech ever recorded used by God in the Ages past and now, God expects us to pray in our own understanding, with the tool of choice our native tongue, nothing can be more pleasing to God, than our Praises with our understanding.Withal praises, Speaking in Tongues, of your own language, is the leading instrument by which the praises of God are proclaimed.
Never has the speech of mighty men of God, from Noah Jesus and Moses, ever been any thing but their natural native tongue.
Men must offer a worship corresponding with the nature and attributes of God, the power of our native speech, brought forward by our own conscious heart in our native language.
Jesus in all his time on earth never did the Barny Babble Gibberish, for Satan has grasp those fools who look for a sign,
1Cor 14: NKJB 10There are, it may be, so many kinds of languages in the world, and none of them is without [b]significance. 11Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the language, I shall be a [c]foreigner to him who speaks, and he who speaks will be a foreigner to me.
The Angel and Balaam's Donkey, Through the Spirit of God, even a donkey can speak in tongues, known language, when Balalam heard the donkey it was not the Barny Babble gibberish, or nor was it Hee Haw Hee Haw, it was has allways been in man's tongue.
