Three Things You Might Not Know About the Wren:
The Wren is not Europe's smallest bird: While many people believe that the Wren is Europe's smallest bird, it is actually larger than the true holder of that title, the Goldcrest. The Wren is a tiny, dumpy brown bird with long legs, a fine bill, short round wings, and a short, narrow tail.
The Wren defends its territory: Male Wrens usually have three prominent perches from which they defend their territory, which can range from 1/2 to 3/4 of an acre. They sing from these perches to establish their presence and attract females during courtship.
Wrens are attracted to backyard habitats with structure: Wrens usually skip bird feeders but are enticed into backyard habitats that provide plenty of structure. You can draw Wrens to your yard by adding appropriate native plants, building a brush pile, and creating crannies and crevices with stones or lawn art.
