Not as much as you guys for both of our players. Lindholm 44 points last year and almost 8 mill. Debrusk will do better with us. Zadorov is a risky move as well. Thoughts on the Blackhawks signing of Laurent Brossoit @ $3.3/year for 2 years total? And to branch off, thoughts on goalie contracts in general? We saw Tampa win with Vasi who makes big bucks, then Vegas with Hill who was basically a random at the time worth only a 4th rd pick, & now Panthers win with Bob who has a cap hit of ~ $9 mil. Do yu think it's worth it to pay goalies big bucks or no? C.H for the Jets got torched in the playoffs so it feels like playoff goaltending performance is one of the biggest enigmas in the game.
I understand why you put Lindholm here but he's going to be playing with Pasta. And with the cap going up I think ultimately it will be a good signing.
I agree 100%! He has shown what he can do with good players around him! He'll have Pasta and Zacha or Marchand and Frederic/Lysell has his wingers! Looks good both ways! His production should increase and he will help tremendously on defense! Now, if they can just get Swayman locked up!!!
CBJ fan here. Watching your breakdown of the Monahan signing, I had a switch flip in my brain. After the All-star festivities this past season, there was a lot of interest in Boone Jenner around the league, but our GM at the time, Jarmo K. had no interest in moving him. With the addition of Monahan and (assuming) probably no attachment from GM Waddell, I wouldn't be surprised to see him potentially moving Captain Jenner, especially after bottom 5-ing 2 years straight, changing coaches and gm. Just a thought🤷♀️
Boone Goes Nowhere.. He's the Hardest Worker on the Team... If Not For Injuries the Last 3 Years Boone had Been on 30 to 40 Goal Paces and he's a checking line guy Lol You Don't Deal that Kind of Asset when He's on a Good Deal!!
@stanleyfranks9891 you're right, I wouldn't trade him, BUT, I'm also not the gm. As you noted with all of the positives, injuries 3 seasons in a row at 31 years old, and potential trade value vs remaining career potential, who knows.. I like Boone, I think he is a good player and a great leader, and he's on a helpful contract, but a gm is probably looking at both sides.
It wasn't Kekalainen who kept Jenner around, it was ownership. They specifically told Kekalainen and Davidson that Jenner was off the table when they almost had a deal done for him. I think the only way that changed is if Jenner asked to be traded since the TDL, or if Jenner lost the room this past year. Now it's quite possible that they plan to move Jenner to a middle-6 LW/Faceoff Specialist role like they did with Dubinsky his last few seasons. Running a middle of Monahan-Fantilli-Sillinger-Kuraly. Then do the exact same with Monahan in 3ish years and run a middle of Fantilli-Lindstrom-Sillinger-Del Bel Belluz.
When Arvy is healthy he’s a menace. One of my all time favorite Predators. I hope he has some fun playing with the offensive style. For us he was a breakaway type player on a team that basically took shots from the point most of the time.
As a Seattle fan, I was happy with the Montour signing, but I’ve been trying to figure out the Stephenson contract. And it really doesn’t make any sense. You’re hoping for a future that includes Beniers, Wright and Catton down the middle. I figure we’ve got to be moving Gourde as well because his cap hit is way too high for a 4C and I can’t imagine he’ll want to be 4C when he can be a solid 3C on at least half the teams
As a Stars fan, I think the target was to get more physical on the back end. I was glad to see Nils get a 1 year deal (maybe in Cedar Park), but it seems clear they want some experience and more physicality on the boards. I don't love the $ either but they are all 1 or 2 year deals so we shall see (here's hoping Dumba finds his game again)
Im still new to NHL free agency and all so dont dunk on me if i sound dumb, but with all these big year contracts to players that dont exactly seem to warrent it, do you think maybe GMs are trying to artificially raise the cap in order to balance out the issue with Vegas subverting the cap every year?
Anthony Duclair played for Patrick Roy for a couple years around 2011-2013 in the QJMHL. Roy knows what he is getting with this player and knows how to use him.
I disagree. This is where GMs are rewarding players based off what they could be instead of what they are. I've never been sold on Slaf. He finally turned it on at the end of the year but he has a lot to prove. I feel a bridge deal would have been better for Montreal. He still has a lot to prove and if he ends up not becoming that 8 mil player, this deal looks really bad. I feel Montreal should have gone the same route NYR went with Lafreniere. Lafreniere is finally showing us he deserves more. Slaf hasnt.
@@tomp6879in a few years you will understand why your logic here is bad. Sure they could have made a bridge deal like Lafreniere but just like will happen with Lafreniere the amount you will end up having to pay him will be so so much more then if you signed him to this very contract now. Meanwhile the team has seen him play enough (and the fans too) to know he will become a beast in a few years, it's not all about points, just the way he plays and has developed shows he will be at the very least a good top 6 player. The only way this contract ages poorly is if he gets a significant injury
With the looming Thomas Harley RFA situation, that contract will take up a healthy chunk of the $4.66 million in cap space that Dallas currently has. Might explain the lack of signings. But there are guys that could be available on the trade market. Dallas might have to give up a few roster pieces and picks to make that big move. They also have to re-sign Johnston and Oettinger after the upcoming season concludes. And with guys like Bourque and Stankoven ready for the NHL, they probably fill out roster spots in October. If Tanev wanted more term, not sure it would have been wise for the Stars to do that. So he got term with Toronto instead. Still like Dallas' outlook but I get the frustration.
As a Nucks fan im super proud of our signings. I dont think we made any wild or desperate choices. Maybe didnt sign the best guys but for sure signed the right ones that will fit in nicely with how our team plays.
I do like that the Kraken got a top 6 forward in Stephenson and a d-man to pair with Dunn in Montour, but the contracts that Ron Francis handed out to them were....risky. 7-year deals for guys who are 30 don't exactly age well
Nashville has 600k cap remaining and need to sign RFA defenseman Stastney, so someone is likely going to be moved to fit him in, dunno about other teams
Edmonton's in a tight spot, probably need to dump Ceci's or Kulak. Currently about 2.45M above the cap with a 22-man roster, and they've yet to re-sign Broberg or Holloway. Washington's also listed as 13.3M over the cap, though that includes Backstrom's 9.2M which will likely be LTIRed. Still need to figure out 4.1M and it's only a 22-man roster. FV is 3.39M over but they'll LTIR Lehner putting giving them 1.61M in space with 23 players on the roster.
lou has been cooking. idk what patrick roy put in lou's coffee but he seems like a totally different gm this offseason. The draft on top of the first day of free agency have me super excited for next season.
Matt Duchesne was overpaid in Colorado, Ottawa and Nashville. He is financially set for retirement already. So, taking a haircut to stay in Dallas makes sense. He is a complementary piece for that team which is the right fit for him.
I can't believe I'm saying this but looking into Debrusk's number more closely he isn't as inconsistent as some might think. He rarely went 3 games without a point in his career. He also played with a top-tier center in Boston the majority of his career until both of them retired. I think Boston let him walk because they felt he could be replaced with some of the youth in their system and Debrusk has been known to be vocal off ice when he thinks things aren't going his way.
cannot agree w/ Debrusk as being a + for those Canucks. However, you'll quickly notice he is too inconsistent and isn't capable of elevating his linemates. maybe he matures, guessing this will look like buyers remorse.
I think that Sean Monahan was A Risky Gamble, but, I think The Columbus Blue Jackets have nothing to lose, so, they figure, as you said, the reunion with Johnny Gudreau & he can recapture their Calgary Flames Magic
Not sure why it'd get a mention. It matches expectations on cap, might've been an extra season but that's part of the "bad team tax." AFP Analytics suggested 4x6.02M, Evolving Hockey had him at 3x6.1M. I think he's a pretty good fit in SJ for what they need, just not what I'd consider the best or the worst signing.
Us isles fans have had our prayers answered. It really is the summer of Lou. He isn’t done either. We’re at the cap ceiling and still need to resign our rfa guys (Lou has already confirmed Wahlstrom is to be signed and traded). I really hope it’s pinto or ehlers. Also a huge thank you to the other gm’s around the league for overpaying on centers. Jgp went from a bad contract to being worth around a 2nd over the course of 24hrs
The devils have killed it, with the trades, drafted players and free agents. Top six is heavy, bottom six with tatar, bastian, noesek, noesan, lazar etc. is pretty decent, the defense, with a more experienced Hughes and Nemec, and some big tough defenseman, and the goaltending with markstrom, allen and daws. On paper, this might be the best Devils team in history, from top to bottom. .
As a Kraken fan, Seattle’s moves were so strange for me. Ron Francis never makes these big contract moves and for the middling roster we have now, adding more high AAV long term contracts is strange. I really like Montour as a player, and his AAV isn’t too bad, but 7 years for a 30 year old is risky. Also I just straight up so not like the Stevenson move. That AAV and length is too much for a player of his caliber.

Forbort unfortunately I think his lack or speed and inability to keep up with high-paced teams will hurt him in the West. Teams like Edmonton that rely on speed will feast on him
Lindholm isn’t a major contract. 7.75 for his ceiling isn’t bad at all. He ended up losing two very good players on his wings which he gets back. He’s never played with anyone close to the skill of pastrnak. He’ll turn out as a good contract. Could see career years still with Zacha and pastrnak.

I feel Like Berry has all but said, "We are Cup or bust by 2028"
They improved themselves quite a bit.
They are favorite to win a cup next few years..
Didn't see a reason to go after Stamkos at that money. Was glad my Canucks didn't go for him or guentzel
i think they got old. its a risky move. cup or bust
Washington adding Chychrun and Roy for the cost of Jensen and a 3rd is insanely good! That's a terrific 2nd pairing for Washington.
We Wanted Him in Columbus for the reunion with Johnny but I guess we'll have to settle For Monahan!!
Cause people are overblowing it, look at what other players got lmao, i'm perfectly fine with all the deals the reaction is ridiculous
Always respect the grind grav puts up to put vids up almost daily🙌🏿
Any thoughts on Toffoli and Wenberg signing with the Sharks?
It’s quite nice being a sharks fan and not being in the low or trash section of current nhl happening s
Monahan can play anywhere and provides great leadership for the young guys, good signing.
Monahan going to play with Jonny Gaudreu is hella wholesome
If only it could have been. 😢 R.I.P Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau
Anthony Duclair played for Patrick Roy for a couple years around 2011-2013 in the QJMHL. Roy knows what he is getting with this player and knows how to use him.
I know you weren't talking about re-signings much but I think the Slafkovsky contract was a steal (providing he continues to improve of course)
Lindholm with pasta is going to be good and being a top center for them I think he’s going to be a good fit
Funnily enough I think the best deal signed today was an extension, not a free agent. $6.5x8 for Jaccob Slavin is an insane hometown discount
Ron Francis saying this is proof players want to come to Seattle...yes but only if you offer them crazy deals they wouldnt get anywhere else
As a Nucks fan im super proud of our signings. I dont think we made any wild or desperate choices. Maybe didnt sign the best guys but for sure signed the right ones that will fit in nicely with how our team plays.
Jay Rob Blake ever made a good signing or trade ?
I do like that the Kraken got a top 6 forward in Stephenson and a d-man to pair with Dunn in Montour, but the contracts that Ron Francis handed out to them were....risky.
7-year deals for guys who are 30 don't exactly age well
risky no, bad the stephenson deal is bad.
Not risky at all. 30 is not old to get players of this caliber. Both excellent signings.
Guys who are 30 don't age well? Maybe someone should tell all the Stanley Cup champions who are 30-37 years old.
Canucks fan, that Chandler signing is one of the worst. Awful is not strong enough word
@@samslone9457 you'd probably know a thing or two about terrible contracts, I bet
Whats your opinion on the Leafs FA?
stephenson got that contract because hes a 2x cup champ. i liked him in WSH but the cap hit craaaazy
How did you miss Nikita Zadorov as a Boston Bruin??
The Brady Skjei contract is mind boggling, that was the one that I truly looked at and said what the hell
Not surprised carolina let him walk if that was his ask
I’m surprised you didn’t talk about the Canucks signing Heinen as well. I think that might be one of the biggest steals of the day.
Who's all over or close to the cap? Is there still going to be any significant moves?
Shows you how little he does for that to actually get you excited
lou aint cooking until he dumps 44 or 27 and gets that top line scorer. then he'll be sizzlin'.
Best contract has to be Brett Pesce with the Devils and the worst is easily Chandler Stephenson
Great Video, as usual, Nathan. I think The Nashville Predators did The Best in Free Agency Frenzy. I also think that The Chicago Blackhawks did great
Love that crisp 10 fps on your webcam bud
Cbj had to match a contract offer to get him to come here, he had 2 offers on the table both were 5 years 27mil
Im fine with the Monahan contract. Help mentor the young centers and playing with his buddy JG
Not sure why we gave Josh Brown 3 years but Arvy and Ekholm are gonna tear it up
No bertuzzi or tuevo?
Monny to Columbus is a good deal
Flames fans gonna be confused when CGY and FLA face off.
No comment on Blackhawks with 7 signings 🤔🙄
Not the best, not the worst? 🤷🏻♂️
The minnesota wild tried buying a Stanley cup with suter/parise/havlet ... and we have been paying for it for over 10 years now
Sam Lafferty to Buffalo for 2x2 is a nice add for them.
cannot agree w/ Debrusk as being a + for those Canucks.
Canucks got a steal in Forbort the Fun-Ender
Great replacement for big z
I wanna see DeBrusk with Miller and Boeser. I think Hoglander, Pettersson and Heinen will work well, too.
How did you not mention tyler tofolli
On paper, this might be the best Devils team in history, from top to bottom. .
Carolina is screwed
Nah Columbus got better
Mhmm...suuuure.
“I think absolutely one of the worst signings..” then makes several points as to why it’s not a bad signing lol
Columbus has a team???

As a Kraken fan, Seattle’s moves were so strange for me. Ron Francis never makes these big contract moves and for the middling roster we have now, adding more high AAV long term contracts is strange.
I really like Montour as a player, and his AAV isn’t too bad, but 7 years for a 30 year old is risky. Also I just straight up so not like the Stevenson move. That AAV and length is too much for a player of his caliber.
So far im on same page, but i have tbh i laughed so hard when dallas signed dumba after buying out suter. Duchene i feel like coulda got 3yrs x 6aav. That was a great signing
Bill Guerin keeps creating road blocks
My sentiment exactly on the Middleton Extension.
@@SakicFan and the Trenin extension... 4 years for a 4th liner? Like just start forfeiting draft selections at this rate
Drafting Stramel ahead of Perreault was so so bad. Guerin is not a good GM
@@Davine.sounds I use to like him so much but the last year has been one of the worst I've seen from a GM perspective. Bad contracts, the worst coaching hire in years, the stramel pick. We are just wasting Kirills prime
@@mikeomoran9256 I too found myself raising an eyebrow at the deal Trenin was signed to.
What about zadorov i feel like Boston overpaid
Vancouver had a great free agency last year, don't know what's so surprising
Edmonton wins free agency already... hands down... to re-sign the guys they did, and add the guys they did with not a tonne of cap... absolutely unbelievable... inconceivable... and all by an interim GM who doesn't want to be GM!
Yes, I understand Ken Holland told the Oilers he's done ? Wonder why,
as you'd think he'd want to stick around, and enjoy his success. I have
a feeling there's more to this story, we're not being told.
That Reinhart signing was a steal.
Dude you didn’t even mention the Blues?? Oh wait nvm….
Yeah, I agree with you on the Lyubushkin deal. It's horrible.
The.
Monahan signing by the blue jackets was very Jarmoesk. Over paying a good player but not great player. This is one of the reasons he was fired.
Forbort unfortunately I think his lack or speed and inability to keep up with high-paced teams will hurt him in the West. Teams like Edmonton that rely on speed will feast on him
As a Habs fan i loved Monahan but holy sh** 5.5 million per year ?! Hoooooooly. Grats to Monahan for cashing in i guess !
good analysis !!
Preds fans are ready for the cup Barry trotz is making moves out here
duclair already play for patrick roy in remparts
Lindholm isn’t a major contract. 7.75 for his ceiling isn’t bad at all. He ended up losing two very good players on his wings which he gets back. He’s never played with anyone close to the skill of pastrnak. He’ll turn out as a good contract. Could see career years still with Zacha and pastrnak.
I'd have to say that Tampa Bay Lightning huge signing of Jake Guentzel is the Best & any of The LA Kings Signings/Moves are on The Other End Of The Spectrum. Let me know what you think
Giving Monahan that AAV and that term? It's like Jarmo never left...
Lindholm 40 goals, 42 assists and runner up to the Selke two season ago. #1 ce ter for 7. 5 is a steal. Hell thrive in Boston. Major risk, you're ridiculous. Even TSN says we were a trade deadline winner. 7 million isn't crazy anymore, cap rising, he didn't get 10million. 😂. It's like you don't watch hockey, how do you have a hockey related TH-cam channel.
Thank god someone has a brain on here!!! Another committed to say he’s a floater! He has been 2 time selke finalist, and with pasta his numbers will be great!!!!! Thank you for your comment!!!! Go Bs
I wanted Him in Columbus
