If you put one subwoofer's phase switch on zero and a second one on 180° you just put them out of phase from each other. They should both be the same and the settings depend on which way is in phase with the main speakers.
Correct. And depending on the other components of your system the phase shouldn't always be at 0º, you should try both and see which sounds better with the rest of the system.
If I'm using 2 subs and using pre outs from the amp.....do I just send the R to one sub and the L to the other? Or should I use a splitter and on the amp and send both R and L to both subs? Does it matter. Thanks in advance if you happen to see this.
@smaganas either way would work, but I go with the first way, L to one and R to the other, and I'm using the B speaker outs from the main Amp to the speaker level inputs on the subs
I’m confused. He mentions a Y splitter but he isn’t holding one and he says plug it into the line in Right socket and he plugs it into the left socket! WTF!?
Thank you so much! I had a dead fuse, and although I knew to look for it, I couldn't find it until I watched this video...it's hidden a little too well! Many thanks!!!
Thanks for your video. However, your only seemed to target those with some prior knowledge about this subwoofer connection as opposed to novices. My reason is, you've only clearly zoomed on camera one location of connection, which is well appreciated but the rest of the areas you've shown on the subwoofer weren't clearly shown on camera. Not that you've made an error it just that I didn't get as much as I've hoped for from your review.
Btw it's a video with someone showing a setup scenario & troubleshoot. It gave me the option what I needed quickly troubleshoot without lookin for my manual. Sometimes as human you can miss things to mention even though you know it. At least he wasn't someone who called this "EVERYWAY possible to connect & troubleshoot ANY subwoofer WITH EVERY INSTRUCTION IN FULL DETAIL" I mean if anyone did the time it could take to watch, you could have read the manual. That would be like a 15-20min well produced & edited video. Like all things electronic 😃
Very helpful information! You touched on 2 fundamental elements (for me) that many other videos lack. #1 - Using a y-splitter to make use of the built in x-over (my sub has dual voice coils as well). #2 - Phase selections when using 2 subwoofers. Great job. Thanks
Hi Donovan: I am having trouble pairing my KLIPSCH WA-3 Transmitter to my KLIPSCH C-310 ASWI SUB. The pairing process involves activating by pressing a button on the transmitter and holding it until the blue light flashes at high speed. I’ve done this multiple times w/o successful pairing. I’ve powered down both sub and transmitter and attempted pairing again…. (Multiple times) w/o luck. The sub is only 12’ away from the receiver and transmitter. The receiver is an Onkyo Thx NR 595. It is connected to the transmitter w/a single RCA line connected thru the sub-pre out. Both transmitter and sub are brand new.
I have 2 sb 2000 svs subs. I am currently running them in Lfe. I don't want my elite pioneer vsxlx304 controlling crossover points. Thank you for pointing out how to bypass the av crossover, as I am positive the av crossover is not as good as the subs.
Looks like you'll need an RCA cable to get sound to the subwoofer. You could pair that subwoofer with something like our Allaire Bluetooth speakers (www.aperionaudio.com/collections/bluetooth-gaming-speakers). You could connect any mobile device to the Allaire and connect the subwoofer to the Allaire to make a full range sound system. Let us know if you have more questions!
Nice video, thank you. Does it matter if you connect the receiver to ONE of the left and right of the "Line In" inputs (as opposed to using a "Y" adapter to have two connections)? If using ONE of the Line In inputs is good enough, which is better, the white or the red? Thank you.
After setting up my B&W A8 using ypao and lots of tweaking it still does not handle the heaartbeat or sudden low bass in sound affects on some movies intro on Dark Side of The moon. Is that normal? Its a bit frustrating . I have to lower main volume on sub to 3 oclock but then i miss out on great bass on all other albums. Should I just accept that and reduce av volume when it comes to this type of thing. I think Ill just have to do that.
I would recommend that you guys get a better quality camera to film these videos! Although the video is in 720p, the quality is pretty bad. For a video of this type, high quality is important to be able to see everything you are talking about on the subwoofer!
I was hoping that you would have shown how to get it to play sound with only one coax hooked up! My receiver only has one out to the subwoofer! I have an Onkyo TX-NR757 receiver and a Sony 8" powered subwoofer! The power light is on, but I'm not getting any sound!
Hi..i have an active sub in my hot tub and before i replaced my stereo with a bluetooth amp there used to be a red light on the power pack..now theres nothing. I know the bluetooth amp is always on so the source is always there..but the bass doesnt seem as strong? How do i know if eveeythings working and should the red light be on? Thanks, steve
Hello community. I've got an AR S115ps sub, and a Nakamichi AV8. The problem is the Sub doesnt seem to be working... The Ar sub is set to auto on(no auto on button...), but the light is red, never seen it green as it should be. Level and Crossover, I changed it and nothing worked. Its connected from Pre output, subwoofer center, to line in. The av 8 is set to SW on, and changed the output parameters from 0 to +5... Nothings seems to work... Ideas?
I have on polkaudio sub...but when i connect the speakers behind it the sound doesn't come out of them... i only hear the bass... what am i doing wrong?
Mistake: If you have two subwoofers going, they both should be in phase (both set to 0 or both set to 180. The way he says it will cancel out much of the bass (one at 180 and the other at 0)
I own a Dali Basis 100. It stopped working. The power led is on and I hear the relay kick in. When I try to play music through it, I need to turn the sub to max just to have the tiniest movemnent of the element. I tested the element and that works. The power part seems good. But no sound. I used to run them from the phones out, because that seemed to be the only option at the time. I was thinking since it is an active sub, it wouldn't want amplified signal from the outs
I'm running to JBL p250 Northridge subs . I'm running a y splitter from the back of the receiver to the main sub then running out to the other sub . Should I have the switch on LFE or normal . Secondly doesn't matter if I go from the left or the right input on the main sub .
what happens if I install the subwoofers in at the junction of the wall and the ceiling? Moreover what if I install it in the corner but along with the ceiling? Also, when I install 2 subwoofers on opposite walls, should they be driven in phase or out of phase?

Dear Sir, I have Polk Audio PSW10 suwoofer and denon receiver X550bt, I am using front tower and center, surround small speaker, what will be crossover frequency and which point the low pass filter i will set in sub, kindly suggest.
Bojan, If your floor standing speakers are passive and powered with an AVR then yes the bass drivers of the floor standing speakers should work right along side the subwoofer. Now the level of bass frequency on the floor standing speakers will depend on their voicing(frequency specs) and internal AVR settings. Are your floor standing speakers bi-ampable? If they, are make sure that the bridges are in place that connect the dual set of binding posts. The more common issue is to not get any bass from your subwoofer, but from your towers, and is usually a setting issue with in the AVR. Regards, Michael
Uh... don't EVER turn it on until AFTER you have all of the cables connected, and dial down the volume control before switching the power on, then increase as appropriate once you know all is ok. (btw, it's not a "gain" control, gain has a different purpose than volume, they aren't the same thing) What you did at 3:10 after showing the fuse can damage speakers and the electronics they are connected to. Your "advice" on phase settings was equally bad (see the many other comments for more info on that). In single cable setups the signal is combined LR (effectively mono) The LR inputs are for when you're feeding the sub separate LR signals via two separate cables, in most cases a Y cable isn't needed for a mono. Using the built-in crossover in the sub instead of the LFE input doesn't necessitate the use of a Y cable. So here's a guy wearing shorts (somewhat unprofessional), giving "advice" which can lead to damaged components and poor subwoofer performance being trotted-out as an expert? This sometimes out-of-focus video hasn't been revised or deleted after SEVEN+ years... leaves me to wonder what else Aperion got wrong.
So, using the RCA connection enables the cross over? If so, now you need to plug the speakers directly to the subwoofer, right? If you have passive speakers and an active subwoofer; how would you handle the volume of the speakers?
This is what i dont get.... and i might try it. Otherwise how do my speakers know where to cut off frequency if they can communicate what the subs crossover is set to. Please let me know if you figured this out

BTW im not pounding the sub at that time just basically at home theatre levels of volume but the Gain is on max so what is up any help would be appreciated?
Hello, hoping u are having a good day, I have this question: have you ever had a very low volume humm when the sub is connected to the AC but sub is turned off and every input is disconnected? Could it be a transformer humm and is that normal/can't be avoided? Already tried isolating the subwoofer in its own power outlet and it does the same thing.
Hi Dude, I have a Denon x3600H 9.2 Av receiver. So can you suggest me the low budget speaker system. How many speakers doses it need ? Which is better Klipsch or Polk audio? Thank you.

Hi my friend I have my yamaha ampmifier NR803, and Im fully satisfied with it. What yamaha subwoofer do you reccomend, sw500 or sw300 ?? I mean they are expensive, but there is big difference in sound quality ? To spent more money for th sw500. It worths it? Or with sw300 is as good as sw500?? Regards!! Thanks for help.
I have two questions.. should I turn the low pass frequency in to maximum bcz avr already have a inbuilt crossover and settings.. I found a subsonic filter option in my subwoofer and what the frequency settings for that?? Should I turn it to on or off??
If you are using the crossover built-in to your AVR then yes have the crossover on your sub set to as high as it can go or turn off the crossover on the sub if it has a switch to do so.
Likely the issue is with the amp circuit board. You will want to take it to a local repair shop to see if they can isolate and fix the issue. Otherwise you may need to get a replacement amp plate for the sub.

Hello, I have my sub Adam 10 "MK2 And ADAM S2V couple in my homestudy, the fact is that I have it in the center between my two monitors, under my desk, if I leave it with the 0 ° phase and with sonarworks, the graph gives me a + -3db waveform up and down, between 100 Hz and 28 Hz. And if I change it to phase 180 °, I have a +6 dbs rise in the graph, from 80 Hz at 28 Hz. No waveform, all this measured in the whole room The question is that with phase at 0 °, as the graph says, At ear, I perceive less serious, and with the phase at 180 ° I perceive more serious. My question is, which of the two configurations do you think would be in the correct phase? I'm lost.
You can use any Bluetooth audio transmitter to avoid running a cable across the room. You'll need some audio cables to plug the transmitter into the AVR and to plug the Bluetooth receiver into the sub.
Thanks for the video. Can you help me on how to connect a sub-woofer in a stereo set-up for best music experience considering the source is laptop (windows 7 based playingFLAC files) + DAC (NAD D1050) + Stereo Amplifier (Marantz PM 8003) + Tower speakers (Wharfedale Diamond 10.5) + Sub-woofer (Wharfedale SW150 without LFE ).
Hey Jean, It depends on which brand and model of subwoofer you have, and the way that the manufacturer designed the amp. If it's an Aperion, and set to auto mode, the light should turn colors once the signal from the receiver has hit the subwoofers threshold. If you have an Aperion sub and this method doesn't work, please contact customerservice@aperionaudio.com for further assistance. You can also reference here for a subwoofer troubleshooting guide: www.aperionaudio.com/blogs/aperion-audio-blog/subwoofer-help-and-troubleshooting Thanks!
So i am confused. I want to buy the thoner & vander hoch Bluetooth and the SW10 subwoofer to just listing to music on. Do it still need an amplifier. I have been searching for a answer a long time and I really don't know.
Okay i'm confused. Can the Klipsch R-15PM's and a powered Sub woofer (R-10SW) be connected Together, to a PC, without the need of any Receivers or Amps? The R-15PM's are Powered Monitors. If i do need a Receiver, I own a Yamaha HTR-5840 That i haven't used in 10 years. Will it work with this setup if i do need it? Thanks
Yup, no need for the receiver. From your PC, use the headphone 3.5mm output to the Aux analog input on the back of the R15's. Then, run an RCA cable from the sub output (next to the aux input) to the LFE input of the sub.
Hey there! If the amp doesn't work you could try to find a replacement. But if the woofer is broken, you could also replace that. Please read our blog for a full troubleshooting step by step on testing your sub: www.aperionaudio.com/blogs/aperion-audio-blog/subwoofer-help-and-troubleshooting Also please let us know if you have further questions! Thank you!!
i have a philips sw090 subwoofer which only has an audio input on the back no knobs just that hole. how can i hook this up to either a bluetooth tower speaker or my logitech computer speakers and sub?
It might be a Philips dedicated sub. If it's a proprietary design they tend to make it only compatible with the complete set. I'd contact Philips to find out.
Hi, I am having issue with my prosub 800, i been using it for last 4-5 years with no problems but recently after i relocated my residence, after new set up it gets turn off by itself while full system is running. ( I use Onkyo TX-NR626 receiver with 5.1 Bose speakers system) any clues why this happening?
Usually on the rear of the sub it will specify the voltage and also the amperage for the fuse. The Aperion subs use 8, 6 and 4 amp fuses so you may need to reach out to Pioneer for specifics.
You'll want to hook all of your speakers up through a receiver. Most TV's only have RCA audio pre-out. These pre-outs are not powered so if you're using passive speakers you'll need them to hook up to an amp of some sort. Most subwoofers have an on-board amp which is why you typically would hook that up to the pre-out of the receiver.
@@splittheatom7599 Depends on where they are located. If they are on opposing walls facing each other, then yes you want to do this. If they are both on the same wall, facing the same direction then no you don't, as they will cancel each other out with one at 0 and the other at 180.
Hey guys i need some explanation. Lets say you have an active sub connected to a pre out, and you have two floorstanders, okay, and you set the phase right. My question is: could and should the bass drivers on floorstanders be working along with a sub or not? Please help. Thanx in advance.
I have 5.1 system of Philips. Bass not fine which is 6.5 inches. Can i cut the wires of subwoofer and install subwoofer such as 8 inch or more in another box? System is 96 watt. Can i connect passive woofer replacing inbuilt woofer of the system?
but what about those high level inputs? though? how do i use those? with a good old stereo integrated amplifier that doesn't have, lfe outs? how do i do that? though?
I bought a subwoofer and speakers off a mate of mine and I cannot set it up for the life of me. I’ve watched so many videos and I still can’t get it going. Can anyone help ? Had it sitting here for over 2 months
If you put one subwoofer's phase switch on zero and a second one on 180° you just put them out of phase from each other. They should both be the same and the settings depend on which way is in phase with the main speakers.
agree!
Correct. And depending on the other components of your system the phase shouldn't always be at 0º, you should try both and see which sounds better with the rest of the system.
Yup, both subs should be set to 0 phase. As others have mentioned , the 2 subs will be out of phase . How is this dude a guru ???
If I'm using 2 subs and using pre outs from the amp.....do I just send the R to one sub and the L to the other? Or should I use a splitter and on the amp and send both R and L to both subs? Does it matter. Thanks in advance if you happen to see this.
@smaganas either way would work, but I go with the first way, L to one and R to the other, and I'm using the B speaker outs from the main Amp to the speaker level inputs on the subs
How come out of the 30 videos I've watched none have yet shown me where to plug the cable at on the receiver?
Powered subs connect between the receivers "subwoofer" output and the subwoofers LFE (RCA connector) or Stereo (RCA connectors) input.
I’m confused. He mentions a Y splitter but he isn’t holding one and he says plug it into the line in Right socket and he plugs it into the left socket! WTF!?

I'm glad I saw this video....I have this sub was about to trash it until you talk about the fuse.....I didn't know it had one ....thank you!!!!!
Help! Why my PROSUB 800 is getting switched off in 5-10 minutes while running. I couldn't find any answer anywhere. do i need to replace the fuse? Any reasons why this happening?

What would cause my Boston pv600 to keep blowing fuses?
How to connect powered studio monitors to this sub ?
I just got this pv500 woofer what other components do i have to get..?
Sir how to connect a active sub woofer to a mixer directly
You should still be able to use an RCA cable.
will this be a possible connection please? ttable-phono preamp-subwoofer line in-subwoofer line out-amplifier aux input-speakers. thank you
I have two questions.. should I turn the low pass frequency in to maximum bcz avr already have a inbuilt crossover and settings..
I found a subsonic filter option in my subwoofer and what the frequency settings for that?? Should I turn it to on or off??
You can just match your sub crossover to the receiver setting. What's the second question?
If you are using the crossover built-in to your AVR then yes have the crossover on your sub set to as high as it can go or turn off the crossover on the sub if it has a switch to do so.
I have a subwoofer that does not show LFE it just has the red and white inputs i have a single wired rca cable where should i plug it
What if you blow a fuse every time you plug it in?
Likely the issue is with the amp circuit board. You will want to take it to a local repair shop to see if they can isolate and fix the issue. Otherwise you may need to get a replacement amp plate for the sub.
I have a accurian model 31-5048 .ever time I turn it on the protecter comes on and shuts right back off iv checked all the fusees .and don't see a reset can you help
What if mine sounds but doesn’t move? Jamo Sub 210
I'm lost.
Can you use plug in cables for wireless subwoofer or is it only the wireless?
Talking about the wrong person for the wrong video… and yet, 1.2M views. You can sell anything to anyone.
Hi, Why after all connections, the indicator remains red ? thanks for your help
You can also reference here for a subwoofer troubleshooting guide: www.aperionaudio.com/blogs/aperion-audio-blog/subwoofer-help-and-troubleshooting
Thanks!
So i am confused. I want to buy the thoner & vander hoch Bluetooth and the SW10 subwoofer to just listing to music on. Do it still need an amplifier. I have been searching for a answer a long time and I really don't know.
no
Okay i'm confused.
I have a Sony SA-CS9 subwoofer stopped working. What do I need to do to get it working again.
Thank you!!
very helpful. thank you.
Hi I have. Wireless Polk Audio sub can I direct wire rca in?:?
i have a philips sw090 subwoofer which only has an audio input on the back no knobs just that hole. how can i hook this up to either a bluetooth tower speaker or my logitech computer speakers and sub?
It might be a Philips dedicated sub. If it's a proprietary design they tend to make it only compatible with the complete set. I'd contact Philips to find out.
How do I know if my speakers and sub will connect if I don't have an amp? What if they aren't the same brand? Speakers: Edifier Subwoofer: Polk
Niranjan try hook up ground cable to your receiver
So just do left and right rca??
What size fuse does the pioneer SW8 use?
Usually on the rear of the sub it will specify the voltage and also the amperage for the fuse. The Aperion subs use 8, 6 and 4 amp fuses so you may need to reach out to Pioneer for specifics.
Is it a requirement to run a sub and external speakers like some polk t50's through a receiver? Can they run by simply hooking them up to a TV or no?
You'll want to hook all of your speakers up through a receiver. Most TV's only have RCA audio pre-out. These pre-outs are not powered so if you're using passive speakers you'll need them to hook up to an amp of some sort. Most subwoofers have an on-board amp which is why you typically would hook that up to the pre-out of the receiver.
if we have 2 identical subwoofer in room, then why we have to reverse polarity to 180 of 1 subwoofer?
Guru because they can cancel each other out.
such that your neighbors won't complain
@@splittheatom7599 Depends on where they are located. If they are on opposing walls facing each other, then yes you want to do this. If they are both on the same wall, facing the same direction then no you don't, as they will cancel each other out with one at 0 and the other at 180.
Can you connect power subwoofer straight to the TV?
bocap1980 nop
I think I have everything right but, the light always stays red never turns green. Any suggestions?
CAN I BRIDGE EACH SUBWOOFER TO WORK WITH EACH SPEAKER IN STEREO MODE???
One at phase 0 and one at 180? Dude this is misleading. It all depends on the positioning of the speaker. Possible issues If you listen to this guy :)
Tenho um jamo sub 210 , mas nao sei como conectar alguma caixa ou alto falantes ... qual o cabo q devo usar ? Me ajuda ai
For the speakers, you will need at least 16 gauge cable, for the subwoofer you will need an RCA cable.
so lfe + main is the best setting
Nope
What is thr fuse for a ps-10 infinity powered sub?? Bin wasting so much money of fuses bc radioshack is apparently guessing
I'd contact the manufacturer, they should be able to hook you up!
Good detailed video.👍
Hey guys i need some explanation. Lets say you have an active sub connected to a pre out, and you have two floorstanders, okay, and you set the phase right. My question is: could and should the bass drivers on floorstanders be working along with a sub or not?
Please help. Thanx in advance.
Did you see Michael Harvey's comment?
My Dual firing sub does not go green all the time or only if I switch it off and on again it this a crossover problem
I have 5.1 system of Philips. Bass not fine which is 6.5 inches. Can i cut the wires of subwoofer and install subwoofer such as 8 inch or more in another box? System is 96 watt. Can i connect passive woofer replacing inbuilt woofer of the system?
