Penix should demand a trade, this is a bs way to start his nfl career, Maybe he could sit behind Cousins and learn for one year, but that's it, then demand that either he or Cousins gets traded if he proves himself to be starter material, which he likely will. He could be like CJ Stroud this year if he was playing. Really, he should demand a trade now, make it clear that he won't play for the Foolish Falcons no matter what.

I get why everyone is freaking out over this situation but it’s not that big of a deal. It doesn’t hurt to have two quality quarterbacks when the rest of the league barely even has one. They could they could trade Penix in the near future or they could trade Cousins in two or three years. Either way they could easily add more value than a first round top ten pick. Most first round draft picks aren’t up to par with the average level of competency for their position as a starter in the nfl.

Well, I mean it could absolutely impact his earning potential. If he doesn't get enough snaps in the 4 years... Obviously you probably rather get picked eighth than 20th but he'd probably rather get picked 9th to a team that it would actually play him then 8th.
The difference between getting picked 8th and 13th is pretty marginal in terms of finances.

    One million percent disagree.
There are a handful of outliers who "get it" right out of college and are able to operate an NFL offense from the get go.
Then there are most QBs who come into the NFL who need time and mentoring and nurturing and practice and preseason reps to "get it"
Penix is one of the lucky ones who has that time built in to his development.
    He's got a chance.
Most are rushed in and discarded.
Maybe Penix is one of the rare ones who "has it" from his inception in the NFL. The odds, historically, are big time against that.

      1. Cousin Kirk, a Quarterback who pretends to work on Mondays, and doesnt work on Tuesdays and his silly fans, are upset that Michael Penix Jr. (the most talented college Quarterback since Trevor Lawrence, Caleb Williams & Deshaun Watson), a Quarterback who works from Sunday till Sunday got drafted. 😅🤣😂
      2. Jeebus Forking Cripes... the Michael Penix Jr. whinging is getting on my nerves.
The mistake wasnt drafting Michael Penix. The mistake was signing Kirk Cousins for $100M. Dude has earned more than Tom Brady, but only has 1 playoff win.
      3. *Cousin Kirk fans are already lining up their usual excuses:* If Kirk Cousins doesnt win 2-3 Playoff games, they will simply claim that not wasting an 8th pick on an Edge rusher, is the reason why Kirk Cousins failed. 😅🤣😂 *FACT IS* With or without Michael Penix Jr Cousins should be winning a Divisional playoff game.
      4. People are pretending as if Falcons drafting Laiatu Latu or Dallas Turner would have been the piece for Kirk Cousins to take the Falcons to the Superbowl. Kirk Cousins could have JJ Watt and Nick Bosa and he still wouldnt go to the Superbowl.
      5. 14 starting QBs got injured in 2023. Therefore you might as well take a very good QB in the 1st round and a good Defensive End in the 2nd round and thats exactly what Atlanta did.

I am sure Penix is very happy. The first time Pexnix gets hits is about five years from now; he will fold like a cheap lawn chair.2019: Penix, a lefthander, dislocated the SC joint in his non-throwing shoulder in November 2019, ending his season prematurely. The 2020 Penix season ended abruptly when he re-tored his ACL against Maryland. Indiana played only two more games. By the time 2021 rolled around, injuries were starting to take a toll on Penix's mind. He told the Pac-12 Network earlier this year that he dealt with mental health struggles as a result. In the 2021 season, he ended after only five games, with Penix suffering a dislocated joint in his throwing shoulder. At that point, Penix had thrown more interceptions than touchdowns in a season that would see Indiana finish winless in Big Ten play.

I agree with the guy who said this was about Raheem Morris, Terry Fontenot and co. trying to make sure they get to keep their job if the team doesn't perform. Now if they fail they will say "don't worry Penix is our future and if you replace us whoever comes in won't have the same game plan we do and he will fail and be a wasted pick."
Should've hired Belichik. I'm not in love with Belichik but he would've been better than this. Also, Belichik and McDaniels did a hell of a job running 2 tight end sets with Hernandez and Gronk. Instead of Hernandez and Gronk imagine having Pitts and Bowers. That still wouldn't have been my first choice but it would've been a heck of a lot better than this and it would've definitely been must watch football with a future first year hall of famer at the helm.

Ppl are made they didn’t draft Dallas Turner or Rome Odunze. Both those players could go down in 1st week and Kirk could get this team to playoffs. Taylor Heineke could not get this team playoffs. Pennix could (at least potentially). So the pick makes sense. If Kirk was young maybe not.

The issue isn't that Penix is going to have to sit, the issue is that they drafted him 8th overall a month after signing another QB to a 4yr, 180m deal. This is a completely different circumstance than someone like Mahomes sitting for a year behind Alex Smith.
Falcons were 7-10 last year with no QB. Now they have Cousins and could've taken Odunze, Byron Murphy, Dallas Turner, etc and been a real threat in a very weak NFC.

I'm kind of on the fence with this.
I will say this, though. Look back over the last 2 years. The Falcons have used Mariotta, Ridder & Beer guy. All 3 really have NO business even being in the NFL. They're really that bad.
So now - as bizarre as it sounds, the Falcons really have one of the best QB scenarios in the league. Sure - it cost a lot of money, but the Falcons are only on the hook with the Cousins' contract for 2 years.
Also - there was really no "game changing" defensive player in the draft.
Here's the flip side. Both Cousins AND Penix will probably get hurt this coming season. By about Game 12, they'll have to go out and find another QB, and don't be too surprised if it's somebody like Ozzie Albies from the Braves. This is called "Falcon Luck". Falcon fans have endured this since 1966, and we're completely used to it.
Finally, Blank should have sold this team after 28-3. It blew his mind, the entire organization's minds, as well as the fans. He really needs to get out of it...
