He seems like a decent guy.
But he's a trained killer, man. Don't lose sight of that 🤔. He went into someone else's country and killed people.
I used to want to be in the armed forces. But when you think about it, it's pretty f***ed up. 😶 If it was just heroes saving the day, like in Ultimate Force, then yeah great.

Many of the observations he made about his early days in the military reminded me of my experiences in the forces too. Great respect for him to turn around his life. The two angels, the good and evil, whispering in opposite ears was something I heard every day during my initial officer training at Cranwell. I was a working class kid rubbing shoulders with lots of middle class recruits and I was very skinny - less than 8 stone when I joined up. I put on 2 stone in 8 months - all muscle. Even now, some forty-two years later, I still think my forces training was the toughest thing I've ever done. I learnt more about myself and my limits then than ever since.

    Hi there,
I m a Christian, but I ve just been listening to one of the better "sermons" in my life. About always pushing yourself further to become a little better person, and I especially loved his honesty about the lack of male role models in this world. That s what I want to take from this interview, and be that role model for he younger ones.
Billy also made me think about me pushing myself a little bit more to become a better, more mindful person for myself.

Maybe not, would pray for any young person or kid not to be in a similar situation during his unarguably the most important time of his life. I mean stealing shoes during one's childhood, the time a very short period of time, when the kid, the young person, got every right to be loved and supported, and this time was stolen from him and even he is a great character nobody should see people die or his comrades get shot or crippled and I think he has seen more than we can imagine. I have seen a cat run over by a car[it made a very strange soft bang] a few weeks ago and there was something very strange in that cats swollen instantly and bleeding heavily face, there was a question or some sort of disbelieve and sadly this picture is imprinted in my brain for good and I cannot imagine looking into a face of suddenly badly injured friend of your which don't even have time to put together what is happened because the fear, pain, unknown already made him mad and you are looking in his face until he is gone this is too much to digest for a decent guy like Billy is, there must be demons chasing him nonstop and God gives him the strength to keep them away, it is a constant battle just because somebody stole his childhood and didn't gave him a choice just be a happy kid and getting on like we had the chance. Well done Billy just don't give up, you are important to us.

Good for you Billy, I struggled health wise since my childhood with bad asthma, walked and run my balls off then told a few lies to the Military to get in. I served 3 years in Northern Ireland from 1972 with a two year tour in the RMPs and a year in a special intelligent unit. I met my future wife in Belfast, left the army and went on to serve thirty years in the RUC, and am now retired. I still carry my inhaler which I still need, as I had all my life and it reminders me of being told as a child I was limited to what I could do. When I left the RUC I went into a deep depression because the fear and anxiety of being found out came flooding to the surface like a pressure cooker. If I had listened to others I would have been stuck in some office job counting down the years. Billy everything you said was so inspirational and in my book men like you are the best this country has to offer, take care Billy and may you always walk in the sun.

love Billy.. he's bang on and yeah life is too soft these days. I grew up in a very similar scenario in terms of poverty.. unlike him though I had zero role models. I found guidance from mentors as i went through life, people like Billy says "have been there and done it".. once you've experienced real struggle at a young age reality is well and truly clear.. life's hard, it doesn't care about you.. the only way you get anywhere is buy going for it and rolling with the punches.. the struggle & journey is life.. be humble, work hard, be honest and never give up... this is the manrta I teach my girls.
