    Cluelessly, I booked a room at Hotel 24 South on a roadtrip from Oklahoma to Maryland. I was stunned by its beauty and charm. It was giving me Hall Mark movie vibes! It is a nerd's paradise. I did begin looking at homes on Zillow just to daydream about how happy this nerd would be to live there! At the least, I will be back next year for a proper vacation!

    I have been twice in USA and during my first visit I visited Staunton Evangelic Lutheran Church. It was in August and I was welcomed so warmly. I might come to Staunton again if I come to USA again. Have Staunton in my heart here in Finland.❤😊 ❤😊

    Staunton is amazing for creative types, there’s so little to do that one can focus on their work.

    Born and raised in Staunton - was a great place to grow up in the 60 and 70s - churches on every street corner - yes our house/driveway was on a hill! Moved to C'ville/Harrisonburg because of work - went to JMU - lived in Mt Crawford until late 90s - moved out of state - still have fond memories of VA - get there every so often - curious how the Staunton Mall is doing nowadays - it was the big draw growing up, but like everything, it eventually became a ghost town as I was leaving the area - the downtown when I lived there was Leggett's, period - until it relocated to the Mall - good to see the downtown coming back to life!

    Waynesboro was the site of the last battle in the Shenandoah valley. It was led by Custer for the Union Army and Early for the Confederacy. Early and his troops were down by the Ramparts on theSouth River. Clusters troops gathered where the high school is and massed up the hill on what is now Pine Ave. The area certainly has many historical sites!

    Y'all are funny. A con is 12 to 15 minutes to a Target... I live in a suburb of Dallas, TX. That's just a nice brisk walk, as long as it isn't July or August because you will melt in the 100+ degree weather. 😆

    I have found that if you are trying to start over after unfortunate circumstances, people are not too helpful. ANYONE with a spotty background is automatically looked at as less than.

      Hi Claudia! We understand your medical concerns! Augusta Health is located very close to Staunton in Fishersville. www.augustahealth.com/

    Unless I missed it, a big con, and I guess it's a pro as well are the designated historic districts. When I bought my place, located in historic Newton, I had no idea the historical err... hysterical zoning committee would be so terribly difficult. Really brings it down as the cost by their approval standards really brings the price up. Really makes me wish I bought a nice ol' house 1/2 a block out of a historic district. A double edged sword as it can make the area pretty and accurate to the old times, but also shabby as some folks can't repair things the way they want. Still love the town and the people but.....

    Car insurance and registration costs? Does VA tax cars as personal property like WV does?

    Why does Stanton have a silent u in it?

    • @VirginiaMountainToValleyLiving
      @VirginiaMountainToValleyLiving  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello. The city was named for Lady Rebecca Staunton, who was the wife of Colonial Governor of Virginia William Gooch. Today, even her descendants pronounce their name with a verbal "u." It is believed that somewhere throughout time, locals changed the pronunciation of the town so that they would know the difference between local people and "outsiders." These phonetic irregularities are a common theme in Virginia's Mountains and Valleys . If you haven't watched our video on "Let's Talk Virginian," I would recommend you watch as we talk about multiple towns here in the area that are spoken differently than their actual phonetic spelling. Thanks for the question and for watching our videos. Let us know if we can help meet any of your real estate needs.
