You forgot to tell folks to visit Pufferbellies- our amazing toy store that has the most lovely window displays- especially at Christmas. And the Art Co-op shouldn't be missed either!!!
Born and raised here. Solid recommendations. So many things to do and you hit some great ones as it is a great weekend getaway to keep coming back to. The history of Staunton especially around the civil war is very intriguing. A place you can come many times and enjoy great food, nice people, and learn about how our country became what it is today.
Great video about an absolutely lovely town. I am from Germany and have been there twice to visit my fiance. One place i missed which is very exicting for visitors from Europe or at least from Germany. Wright's Dairy-Rite should be mentioned. I felt like in an american movie while sitting in the car and order my dinner :-) We do not have something like this here in Germany and so it special for international travellers. Can hardly wait to visit Staunton again .
@Kendra Redman i still hope my finance is moving to Germany. Unfortunately out of private reasons I am not able to move somewhere at the moment (i care for my old aunt). Jedoch können wir gerne deutsch sprechen wenn wir uns begegnen. Würde gerne helfen bei der Übung 😃 may I kindly ask for what reason you speak german?
My wife and I have had this, lighthearted, argument for years. My family being from New York, which has a Staunton - pronounced like it’s SPELLED - and her family being native Virginian from waaay back. 😂 I don’t do that to anyone else, especially when in Staunton because that would just be rude. Love the area, love the valley. One of the reasons i am willing to commute 80 miles to work is to live in the area.
Growing up in Staunton makes return visits full of warmth. The Statler Brothers were a well known music group who are from Staunton. They performed every 4th of July for free and brought an artist friend with them. These events brought 50-100k people to Staunton every year....imagine that!!!
I grew up a few miles down the road on Springhill Rd and remember us sitting in the front yard watching the fireworks and being able to hear them perform from the park
hi there go there ever summer for the last 3-4 years , stay at the blackburn inn , eat at the depot or mill . then go home on rt 11 , with several stops thanks for the show , john
Very informative video. A few comments: The shops you discuss are not on "Main Street". They are along E. Beverley St. (runs one way southbound.) Also. Staunton is the Statler Brothers' hometown. Even though none of the members were named "Statler".) AMTRAK's Cardinal Train between NY and Chicago stops in Staunton 3 days a week.
Nice video. I am also a Staunton resident. While Gloria's is good nothing compares to the Shenandoah Pizza Inferno wings. The sauce is made with ghost peppers home grown and provided by an employee and they switch up the sauce around every week or 2 although it always tastes amazing. I am a little biased as I do work there, but the Baja Bean is also a good place to eat if you are looking for Mexican. The fajitas and chimichangas are fantastic. There is also the Depot which provides good scenery with a glass seating area atop a hill that looks over the whole of Staunton and right above that is the Staunton bridge which provides more great photo opportunities/stunning views and connects to a park where you can admire Staunton in its entirety.
Should also try and explore the grounds of the Blackburn inn ! That property is amazing and has a lot of history in it as well! That hotel is beautiful as well was definitely good that these buildings were flipped into something beautiful
I stumbled upon Staunton booking a room at Hotel 24 on my way to Maryland from Oklahoma. I thought I had fallen into a Hallmark Movie! It is the most charming place and a nerd's paradise! I've even begun investigating home sales on Zillow! Short of that, I will certainly be returning next summer for an extended stay! Thanks for sharing all your knowledge!
Some good info. When you mention authentic food, maybe mention authentic Southern food as well? In fact, Staunton is known as a foodie town, so maybe even just mentioning some of the best food options would help. Thanks. By the way, you make a very good presenter.
Great videos on the area! Could you do a video on the local music scene in Staunton and Waynesboro please. Were thinking of checking the area out and it looks like it has everything we're looking for but music is a big one! Thank you!
I enjoyed your video, thank you very much. I'm thinking about moving to the area next summer, and this was very helpful, just to see what's around town. I love that there's trollies to help get around. 😊 The American Shakespeare Center will definitely be a must see!
How about the stories of Mary Gray and Betsy Bell Mountains. Or at least mention that Staunton was the Capitol for three days located at the Trinity Episcopal Church. Or how about that Francis Collins was born there. Or a little about Western State Hospital and it's history. Please think about doing an addendum to include more history and less food.
the only thing i am curious about is what kind of vehicle were you in when you made this video it looks like a nice interior so would appreciate finding out what kind of vehicle
Are they still closing some of the downtown streets in the evenings for pedestrians only, with outside dining and shops staying open later? And there's Shenandoah Park nearby along with the northern entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
GREAT VIDEO,THE HISTORIC STAUNTON COULD BE MY LAST PLACE TO LIVE SOON ,YOU FORGOT NICE PLACE TO EAT LIKE TASTE OF INDIA,THE SHACK,CHICANO BOY,BYERS ST BISTRO,THE DEPOT GRILL,MOTGOMERY PARK,SMALL TOWN WITH FULL PACKAGE TO ENJOY IN FAMILY
As a Stauntonian at birth, I THANK YOU for the pronunciation tutorial for the newbies! The Depot Grille is a nice dining experience also.
The pronunciation is everything! Haha! Thank you for watching :)
@@flywithflorin Stayed in Staunton in 1990 .The place I stayed was a hotel downtown that was also a seniors residence can't recall the name.
You forgot to tell folks to visit Pufferbellies- our amazing toy store that has the most lovely window displays- especially at Christmas. And the Art Co-op shouldn't be missed either!!!
And visitors should certainly try to see The Great Grebo perform, if they can! ;)
Thanks for watching!

John, thank you for watching! Mill Street and Depot are excellent Staunton classics.
Just went to Barren Ridge after watching this video. It was nice. The wine was okay and the atmosphere was great. Well worth the stop.
Happy you enjoyed your time. Safe travels!
Thanks for the tips! Heading to see Shakespeare shortly 🎉
Enjoy your trip!!
PS- grab split banana after

Lived in Staunton for a few months in the late eighties. Beautiful Shenandoah Mountain town!

Do you have a video about Waynesboro, Va ??
We are planning to visit there in two weeks.~
Would love to hear more about the foodie scene! I’ve heard there’s amazing taco places and random spots like Sweet Addie’s!
I have some future videos in the works to cover just this :) Thank you for watching

You need to update. Stonewall Jackson has a new name, duck pond no longer has the big weeping willow tree.
STAN TON...YESSS. Thank you, thank you!

I have had the good fortune of eating at a restaurant in Staunton called Mrs. Rowe's.
I pronounce the Staunton the same way I pronounce aunt. 😊 I pronounce it the same way you do.😊
Wrighte’s Dairy!
Wright's has the best onion rings.
@@flywithflorinThe place is also infested with cockroaches.
@@balser77Wright's dairy has the BEST burger. Idk about you but I've never seen cockroaches
Did not mention statler brothers museum correct on the pronunciation of staunton
Klines ice cream!
A Staunton classic!
Take the "U" out of Staunton and it will then be pronounced correctly to those that read phonetically
It's understandable why people mispronounce the name. There is a Stawn-ton, Ill.
Same issue with Waltham, Ill. And Walth-Ham, Mass.
The city name is spelled wrong... relative to the pronunciation.
as a traditional US city...
Ironic that the English who created the language pronounce Staunton just as it's spelled much like Taunton in Massachusetts.
Per cap the gayest city in va
