Fun to watch. My first S&T was Ney vs Wellington in '79. Fun to remember those days and getting them in the mail.

My Buddy had this one and I think he played it to death.
My favourite when I had a subscription was Breitenfeld a Gustavus Adolphus victory during the thirty years war. I ended reading a massive book on the thirty years because of this one pretty rudimentary game.
My Dad was a big roman history buff and Spartacus was one of my favourite movies.
I must have started subscribing around 1974/75. I got Road to Richmond and Conquistador and Revolt in the East when they started to really cheap out on their games.
    Thanks

Enjoyed this. We're the same age and Classic comics became an intro to classic literature for me. I have a small collection of Classic comic favorites- The Jungle Book, Kim, Pitcairn Island, Frankenstein etc. I planning a reread of The Iliad and you reminded me of the Classic version of that which was a favorite. Also the Caesar in Gaul good also. The first time I encountered Vercegetorix. Cheers.

Oh wow, an oldie but a goodie. That issue of S&T sells for good money these days. The first print of issue 25 had paper counters, but the second print had mounted counters (also used in the flat tray version). My copy has mounted counters.
Loved the look, thanks Gilbert, your PnP copy looks great.

Cool Gilbert! I bet you are looking forward to Mark Hermans Rebel Fury coming out soon! 6 Battles all about the approach to battle and forming the battle lines. And without millions of rules to bog you down!

Actually, I'm not. I did not like "Gettysburg' too much. I think his system is much better for large campaigns with plenty of movement potential. Gettysburg just didn't work for me with a battlefield only about 16 miles square.

Thank you, that was fun. You kept Great Battles of Alexander and SPQR but not Great Battles of Julius Caesar?

Yes, part of me regrets not keeping Caesar but the scenarios were all fairly large and the rules booklet was kind of 'old style'. Of course I could always purchase the new edition.

Not that you loved Caesar less, but that you loved (Republic of) Rome more.

Here is what got me interested in Caesar. HS library had With the Eagles.[Novel of Rome in the time of Caesar & Cicero].
by Paul L. Anderson and other Roman novels by him.

Ah, yes, PRESTAGs before it homogenised. I preferred Phalanx and the Renaissance of Infantry. And compliments on a well organized game room.

"NERO, an absolutely failed game." How true! It's not even about Nero -- he's dead at the start of the game. It's about his succession, The Year of the Four Emperors, in AD 69. Everything on the box cover is a fraud: the title, the bust of Nero, the Colosseum, whose construction wasn't even started until AD 72 and completed in AD 80. Yes, a major disappointment. Liked your video, though.
