    I am excited to hear that you are going to show your African violets on your channel more. I learned how to propagate my African violets from a leaf from one of your earlier videos and I am looking forward to learning more about them. I think that they will compliment your orchids on the channel very well. :)

    I am so glad that you started your African violet collection back up! I had a collection three years ago that all died at the same time for some unknown reason. I have since started out a new collection recently and went to the seller you previously recommended, and won a couple of bids! i'm excited to see how this collection progresses.

    For the bigger leafs cut the leaf in half to reduce transpiration. Also ensures it stops growth and focuses on adventitious root growth.

      Hi, I never found it made a difference, but I will be making a video experiment soon and see what the difference really is :D also about the water loss situation.. I believe it makes no difference, because not only are we reducing the number of stomatas, but also leaf content which stores water. We are practically not changing the ratio one bit so it should not make a difference. Regarding growth I don't know if it will make a difference either, because cut leaves still grow, but in width more, so again my logic tells me it doesn't help. But I will make sure to thoroughly and objectively test it, with measurements as well 😄

    I would enjoy hearing you talk about washing African violet plants. So, I have heard for years that leaves should NEVER get wet. Well, someone told me it's ok to get them wet, you just don't want them to stay wet and never put them in strong light when the leaves are wet because the heat from the light will reflect through the water and spot the leaves. I had a very dusty violet that I gave a drenching in the shower to wash the dust off. I made sure I did it early in the day and put it in front of a fan to dry. No leaf damage at all from the water.

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, well some get spotted, sone don't, depends how sensitive the leaf is and how long the water remains on the leaf. In my experience temperature has nothing to do with it, but the type (heavily variegated) and length of time water remains on the leaf does :)

    • @matthewcondon1985
      @matthewcondon1985 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MissOrchidGirl It's more like the water droplets on the leaves act like magnifying glassing and focus the light causing a focused hot spot on the leaf causing a "burn" spot. I could be wrong.

      that is the water gauge. It tells her when the water is high or low in the reservoir. They are self-watering planters and they have a small string underneath them to wick up water into the soil.

    If you like African violet may i suggest streptocarpus ,the common name is cape violet, i have 18 and love them so much, the care and propagation are very similar to the African violet as thay are both part of the gesneriad family of plants,i even joined the gesneriad society of America there is also the British streptocarpus society both have a wealth of information and seed banks members can buy from and make seed donations to 😊 the gesneriad family has many beautiful members gloxinia are also lovely and newly conciderd to be a part of the family as well
