I love the softer side of her singing, this is wonderful. Her voice is just so soothing here. Her life must’ve just been so fascinating. I would have loved to followed her around day by day just to see what it would’ve been like think about it all the way back to Violetville. Wow!

Merv Griffin absolutely adored Ethel Merman! He was her biggest fan, seriously. You can tell here his complete enthrallment with her. And she loved him. They sounded great together! She was such a good sport!

I so deeply appreciate the Merv Griffin Show (and Merv) for frequently having Ethel Merman on the show during the last part of her incredible career. Merman was never a nostalgia act. She was at the top of her form up until her last illness. One of my favorite parts of this wonderful appearance are the fun, carefree moments after Ethel and Merv finish singing YOU'RE JUST IN LOVE.

Just walking across the stage to the microphone, she has such authority and confidence.

That was fabulous! I think she has the cutest smile, quite a twinkle in her eye when she smiles… God bless her!

This lady was in her early seventies here. Amazing. Only Merman could do that.

Love that bulletproof helmet of hair - they just don't do those styles anymore! And they don't make'em like Merman anymore.

I know right!!! There should be a birds nest in that hair. I wonder how many cans of aqua net it took to keep it from moving?? Lol BTW, love Ethel’s shoes and dress. She Always looks like 1 million bucks

Not bad considering Merv screwed up the lyrics BIG TIME!

I know nothing about Ethel Merman and her private life or even what she may have been like as a person. Perhaps she was the kindest and sweetest lady on earth. However, I never liked her voice. Way too loud and unmelodious for me. For stage performances she was probably loved, because she sure could project her voice, so effectively in fact, that it has been said she didn't even need a microphone to be heard loudly and clearly as far as the back seat theatre rows.
There is a wonderful film clip on TH-cam where Ethel and Donald O'Connor are singing this together...hec she almost drowns him out , but Donald does manage to hold his own. Donald's voice is absolutely beautiful, then in comes Merman and starts, and honestly if i could have pressed delete on her I would have she just sounded like a noisy obnoxious foghorn to me.
I know many people like her a lot ,fair enough to each his own, she just wasn't my cup of tea as a singer. Just my opinion .

To Ms. Merman. Is this when you were hiding out with Dinah Washington? Are you both little teapots here or Sugar Bowls? Love, Don xoxo December 10, 2023 (Date of Video I'm watching 1979 Since you appear to be eating Ms. Washington's cooking here, I hope this means she's fine. Love, Don xoxo (eat Dark Chocolate sweetie. Find the highest level, with the least sugar that appeals to you. I can't eat the completely unsweetened kind as I am a stockier build, but it helps your brain stay sharp!)

I love your shoes you have on in the 1979 video. I should remember the talk show hosts name you're with. He's a nice guy I remember from the 1980s, but I don't. Love, Don xoxo

I've heard Sinatra sing this and listened again today. His rendition was much slower and the notes just weren't there. Ethel with the way she sang it was so much better! I wish I had seen her in person.

To Ms. Ethel Merman prior to 1980. It appears that you and I connect for many reasons, but I relate to you because your generation is Analog and Digital (from being in music. I'm in the Business Corporation world where we've gone from Analog to Digital beginning the mid 1980s while I was in College. I started my HR career as big companies were becoming completely digitized (digital) and moving from paper analog. You're from the music industry, which it appears to me sitting here in 2023 went digital first. Love you. I bet the 2023 guys are FREAKING OUT about now! as they're reading this and "absorbing" (digesting) it. Love, Don xoxo

I come across a lot of your messages, it’s almost like you’re typing it directly to her. Do you realize she is gone? She will never see anything that you type, they are weird messages that make no sense
