Because klaus and Caroline never loved each other. There was steroline and klamille but there was never klaroline. They never even told each other that they loved each other like the other pairings. Klamille, klaus and cami told each other that they loved each other and klaus said they shared a deep connection. Steroline they loved each other and it was predicted that they'd get together from the very first episode. Klaroline was never ever going to happen and even Julie pleck called it toxic.
