I subscribed only because I liked to hear you mispronounce "urinal".
I America, as you may be aware, we pronounce it differently.
      Just sounds so funny:
      "your-EYE-nAl".
      HAHAHAHAHA
We pronounce that thing you have there CORRECTLY!
      "YOUR-in-al" NOT "your-EYE-nAl"
Oh but, carry on much better!
      Everywhere you go.

As an older, male American, I find your channel fascinating! Our dunnies are different and I never knew Aussie plumbing before I watched your channel. I live where it can get -20*F, so all of our plumbing has to stay inside. Watching your vids has definitely enlightened me to many things and I certainly appreciate ya!! Especially loved: "Bob's your motha's brotha." I've been off work with COVID and can't wait to use it when I get back!!!
EDIT: I should've watched just a bit further...where ya talk about a "full tube of lube and a fresh rubba." My kinda guy!!

Definitely keep up with the plumbing videos, Bruce. I find them fascinating. I can imagine those urinals stunk. One time, I walked into one of the restrooms at work and was greeted with a powerful stench. All of the urinals (there were probably 5 or 6 of them) were off the wall, and their drains were being snaked. NASTY!! In one area where I worked, we used vats of heated hydrochloric acid for one of our processes. Even with the ventilation, you could feel it burning in your nose. Everything metal in that room was corroded. Fortunately, I didn't work in that room for long. It's also interesting to see how toilets are connected in Australia versus those in the US.

I feel you mate. Urinals have the strongest most pungent smells. I hate when I have to take it off the wall and poke at the trap to clear all that calcium and debris build up. The waterless urinals are the worst to unclog.

Waterless urinals are even more susceptible to uric acid / urea salt formation than those that get flushed...
Being from Los Angeles, the point of origin of the low volume flush toilets, the last 35 years or so have conclusively demonstrated that toilets of all types need a reasonable volume of flush water, or you end up using even more water to unstop blockages in the toilet traps and the drains.

I've developed a system (the shower is on the wall above the bath) I'll put the plug in the bath whilst showering, collect the water at the end in a bucket, and chuck it down the toilet , do that every 12 or so showers ,a nice sluice down, using 'grey' waste water.

This urinal isn't a blockage issue, it is a lazy management issue. The waterless urinals have an oil like liquid filled filter that uses the basic principle of oil floats on water, to pull even the smallest dribble of urine down into the drain, so nothing sits in the bowl. Those filters need to be changed regularly to maintain the function of the filter, as there is always some loss of the oil like fluid with each use. Once the oil like fluid is low enough, the syphoning effect no longer happens, and the bowl backs up. No doubt plunging a waterless urinals like that will guarantee you loose all of that oil like fluid from the filter as well.
Those filters are not cheap, and replacing them often requires a special tool, and they are usually installed from the under side of the urinal, which also means crawling on a piss covered floor to do the job. And even with all that, you have to be careful installing the filter, so you don't slop out any of the oil like liquid inside by screwing it on too fast, or holding it at an angle.
Waterless urinals are, IMHO, a boondoggle, and a total money grab. Yeah you save on a little water plumbing, and that's about it. And after you buy a couple years worth of filters, you could have easily plumbed the water line for the cost.

    • @grayrabbit2211
      @grayrabbit2211 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Waterless.urinals are terrible for the plumbing though. All of that concentrated urine just crystalizes in the pipes. Its a problem with all urinals eventually but the waterless type more so since it has no water.to dilute it.

Hydrochloric acid - we call it _Salzsäure_ or more rarely _Chlorwasserstoffsäure_ - I also use from time to time to clean the toilet. Otherwise I use amidosulfonic acid in a 10 to 15% concentration. I mix my toilet cleaner myself, it's cheaper and I don't need any dyes or fragrances that are otherwise not actively involved in cleaning. Limescale and urine scale don't stand a chance! :D

I like seeing the other types of plumbing - especially given that i am from a different part of the world with different plumbing

While I'm no plumber by any means although I do consider myself better than the average do-it-yourselfer, I love to see a true professional at work. Keep up the good work, mate.
