This video made me realize that not only was/is Hunter being the Golden Guard a tie in to the fact that he DEFINITELY has Golden Child Syndrome, him wearing the Golden Guard mask is also a physical representation of him masking, since he acts differently when wearing the mask as opposed to without it. Thank you for the epiphany!
He's actually what introduced me to golden child syndrome (something that was very important to me) through an edit of him with a song that has heavy themes of golden child syndrome. (Ironically the video was titled "hunter needs therapy")
The last trait that you showed Hunter having as being Autistic at 8:09 would be the delayed response, where those under the spectrum need about a few seconds longer to react to a situation or conversation.
Something else I noticed was that in Any Sport in a Storm, Willow says to Hunter “You can help by attracting people with your sick sky skills.” And Hunter takes it literally by saying “Hm, I don’t feel sick.” It may just be him not knowing how others his age talk but idk
@@kalenkotalik also something interesting: Maybe him also being on the spectrum explaines why he and gus work so well together: th-cam.com/video/AgsMM2R_tqc/w-d-xo.html
Overall it was a good video but I don't think the moments when Belos is possessing him count for much because his brain was being messed with. The hearing point especially.
Literally 😭 “ notices small details, like when Belos, who has possessed him, is actively possessing him and causing paranoia” like yea, that makes him possessed, not autistic
I wrote like a paragraph about this lol, honestly kinda problematic for them to use clips of a person being possessed as examples of autistic traits :/
Just remember that having a few of these symptoms does not necessarily mean a person is autistic. However, coding exists in television to signal cultural knowledge to certain demographics "in-the-know." In other words, Hunter may be coded autistic in the show, but a person like Hunter in real life might not have autism.
Hey sorry but can you explain what “coding” is, like is it making them seem like they’re autistic or something? I’m just a bit confused especially in this video when they said something about trans-coding idk if I’m overthinking it thanks in advance
@languid-4535 Hi! When something is (X)-coded, it means that it's showing traits commonly associated with X group of people without explicitly stating that they belong to said group. In this case, Hunter is coded autistic because he performs many of the same actions an autistic person may exhibit; stimming, disregarding social cues, hyperfixaton, etc. Sheldon from Big Bang Theory, Donatello from the new TMNT show, Sai from Naruto Shippuden, Wednesday Addams from the new Addams Family show are also examples. Hope this helps! 😁
Yup! Throughout the entire video I was thinking “this is “normal” stuff”. Not a single trait mentioned, followed up by a clip of Hunter doing something similar, seemed autistic. He just seems like another neurotypical kid. Most of the video claims he’s autistic because he simply loves a book series😭😭 it just doesn’t make sense to me. Stuff like pacing, avoiding eye contact, and other such things are just done to exaggerate emotions and create more effective storytelling (as in, even younger kids can understand what a character is feeling based on their actions alone). Not to mention they’re present in his character because he lived a super reclusive life during his formative years. He’s not autistic, he’s just figuring out how the world works after being abused.
TLDR: I think it's more likely Hunter has PTSD because Tism and PTSD share similar traits, but he has more little things that lead towards him having PTSD. Okay okay, I like this headcanon but I actually think Hunter has PTSD! It is considered a form of neurodivergence, and it shares many traits with autism. He flinches a lot, as if he's expected he's going to be hit. He is so used to it that he doesn't even try to defend himself. He disassociates a lot (which also makes him go non-verbal) and also he has trouble opening up to people. He does do a lot of stimming. The masking confidence thing can also be tied to PTSD in essentially the same way. They feel comfort in people not being able to see them. Eye contact is something people with PTSD don't do unless they're really comfortable with a person! He's made eye contact with Darius, Willow, Luz, and Gus before, people who he really cares about. People with PTSD struggle to connect with others, also as shown in the episode where he tried to make Willow and her team join the Emperor's Coven. He doesn't understand how bad things are, and he doesn't pick up on their unhappiness until a while afterward. Also, people with PTSD can come off as blunt, and sometimes even rude, when really they just think a bit differently because of traumas. The meltdowns and bursts of anger also tie into their frustrations with their state of self. Also, I think when he said idc too, I think her meant he didn't care to know who they were. People with autism and PTSD both share a lack of self-expression. I do agree that Gus, Luz, and Hunter are probably neurodivergent. I feel like Gus is more leaning toward Autism, and Luz almost definitely has ADHD. People with PTSD are jumpy and notice things very easily, especially when they are tied to their trauma, even if they don't know it. I wouldn't consider the times when Hunter is possessed as anything having to do with him because..well..he's possessed.. ANYWAY, you can do your own research and fact-check me if you'd like. Not saying Hunter isn't Autistic, it's really all headcanon anyway, and if you wanna HC him as Autistic, then knock yourself out! :)
He for sure has PTSD from Belos and everything that happened in the Coven, and the masking confidence im almost certain had to do with his whole life, personality, and the only thing he ever was acknowledged for WAS being the Golde Guard and wearing that mask, however I do think its likely hes also on the spectrum! (Although everyone has a few ASD traits, which is why its autism SPECTRUM disorder)
He makes eye contact when willow is mentioned autistic people make eye contact with people they are comfortable around or when that person/people is mentioned but also it's common for autistic people to make to much eye contact so yeah it makes sense why he makes eye contact when willow is mentioned
So unrelated to this specific comment section and I am talking to the the youtuber but you said in a video that autistic people only stim when their excited but that's not true
I would like to point out that those traits can also stem from child abuse, and I think that this is the case here! That's actually why I thought I was autistic before I discussed it with my doctor. It still means that Hunter's neurodivergent tho 🐖
@@marianmeletlidiscrap to double on this point, a lot of autistic people are abused/mistreated as children, whether it's via their parents or via bullying in school/in friend groups.
Being autistic myself this just makes me love hunter even more the fact that the creators put in all these small details is what makes it such an anazing show! Love you hunter and the owl house!
I have diagnosed ADHD, so this may be an ADHD thing, but the scenes of Hunter walking in the background not really responding to anything(The scenes in For The Future you have marked under "Acting like an "NPC"") remind me of when I zone out or get stuck in my head for extended periods of time. Especially considering that most of these scenes take place right after Flapjack's death, I don't really see this as an autistic trait. I'm sure I would probably act similarly, as it is an easy way to keep my mind off of things I don't want to be thinking about. Obviously, this is up to your interpretation, and I know little about autism, so I could be completely wrong about this!
I think the nudging thing(where Willow is cutting her hair) is more because it’s books about witch hunters and he probably doesn’t want Willow to know about it.
I have diagnosed trauma, and I noticed alot of these symptoms are very similar. I'm unsure if he is autistic or simply traumatized 😭 also, the first part of "acting like an NPC" was him being possessed by belos, so I don't think it necessarily counts if it's belos trying to stay undercover and act normal
Alr folks. Hear me out. Why not both? (I’m autistic, and likely traumatised (no diagnosis, so take it with a grain of salt) and it’s not a combination you see too much representation of? Like off the top my head, I couldn’t name an autistic character with trauma in any media I’ve seen. So, a win for representation - if it is both. )
5:39, he's still using proper grammar (insistence on proper grammar usage could also be a trait, though) "i think [those things wont happen]" "i don't care to [know what those things are]"
Thank you! I'm a bit of a grammar nut, and I was looking for this comment. Neither of these instances are gramatically incorrect, they just leave off parts that could be implied. It's very common in spoken English and even in written English (as the "I think" could be separated by an em dash).
Seeing Hunter show the same autism traits as me fills me with joy, especially the vocal stimming/stimming in general and the special interests/info dumping 😭
Just realized that the show runners hint that Gus knows about Hunter being a grimwalker under the guise of a Cosmic Frontier theory. 1:04 then for Halloween Gus is Cpt. Avery and Hunter of O'Bailey
I have a sister with autism, and seeing a video point out autistic traits in one of my favorite characters of TOH has helped me understand a bit more about her and bond with her! Thanks (also, I know I’m late but HAPPY AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MOUNTH!!)
Most of these can honestly be explained by the fact that Hunters was in a cult, his first real friend died, he’s a teenager, and he was alone most of his life
Pretty interesting. We can't be quite sure though because for each and every one of these behaviours you can trace it back to his life at the castle, which could also mean they're just trauma responses. Nonetheless, such is the beauty of leaving things to interpretation, and it's wonderful to see people relate to him on such a personal level
Alright, i can relate to a lot of this and a lot of hunter's character as a whole because sci-fi and wolves was literally me as a teen -Rubbing skin as stimming: I rub my thumb and middle finger together a lot, i also find typing and games that focus a lot on quick hand reflexes to be a good way to maintain my hyperactivity -The leg shake not so much, but i've done it once or twice. -Vocal stimming: Whenever i'm excited about stuff, i always quietly scream "Yesss" -Pacing: Totally. I love just getting out of my chair to just walk in circles around my room. -Hand flapping: When my excited stimming isnt vocal, i usually like to shake my fists a lot. -"Cringy" special interests: I always get so over excited whenever new star wars content drops, my excitement when they came out carried my opinion on the sequels. They aren't Attack of the Clones or Revenge of the Sith, but they're good. -Emphasizing by talking about myself: Yeah, totally. It's one thing i'm always like "Why the hell do i do this and why do i always forget i do this minutes after i'm thinking about this?" -Masking confidence: This is why i'm always online and will never do a face reveal. -Unmasking: Totally, i have to always keep myself entertained in some way or i'm left with my anxiety-filled brain -Scripting: I said Obi-Wan's signature line "Hello there" in the past ONCE. and now i say it EVERY TIME I GREET A STAR WARS FAN. -Avoiding Eye Contact: whenever i cried i always would put my eyes on my knees to hide my face -Social Cues and Norms: Oh my god i still cannot adapt to society, i sit in the weirdest positions, i do make a few other mess-ups but not sitting in the way everyone else does is the one that i always am reminded of when explaining why a character is autistic and they get to the social norms part -Acting without second thought: I always trust my gut before trusting my brain. -Going nonverbal: Cant relate that much, for me it's honestly the opposite when i'm doing something stressful -Meltdowns: I would go into a gamer rage whenever i was at my limit -Shutdowns: Whenever i'm super stressed and dont want anything to escalate further i just try to seperate myself from everyone else and focus on me -Struggling to express emotion: Yeah, i used to never talk to my family about shit because i couldnt even process anything when i needed it. -Small details and hearing senses: I swear man, everytime my old-ass fan makes a noise i dont recognize, i flinch hearing it and immediatly think "Oh my god it's gonna fall," and also whenever i'm watching gameplay and the youtuber does something and talks about it, i'm just like "You dingus that's not what that does, that's not how that works, check the wiki next time." -Acting like an NPC: totally. Now, enough about myself, traveller. We shall focus on you, as the customer is right. Do you have an interest in my wares? -You also forgot struggles with not being good enough, it could be just a normal thing, but it's another common thing i find both myself and Hunter struggling with.
as an autistic person myself, all this is VERY accurate to me, i make a lot of hand gestures, obsessed with nerdy things, and more, i would love for dana terrance to reveal hunter is autistic, since she already revealed he’s bisexual
4:19 While I absolutely have been convinced that Hunter is on the Spectrum, I don't think this scene in particular is related. In fact, it very clearly isn't. This outburst isn't an impulse, it's Belos' own anger starting to seep in. But yeah, just about everything else seems very familiar.
I like how everyone see the traits and may even know that he doesn't act like a "normal" person but they don't question it or don't judge he for it. I also like fact that they spent so much time with him that they sometimes know how to help without even realizing it.
My thoughts exactly. I related to all but the hearing one, and i might even relate to that (my hearing is better than my other senses but ik people with better hearing than me - who are autistic, i should probably add - so idk)
I think a lot Hunter acting like an “NPC” is also him experiencing periods of dissociation. Autistic people usually end up on autopilot while dissociating because their bodies still feel the urge to stim/mask/play along until the can get out of overstimulating environments.
I’m neurotypical, but I found that I do a lot of these things myself. It was super educational, and I hope I can better understand my neurodivergent friends!
This is super cool!! As someone who’s neurotypical but has an autistic sibling, this is honestly pretty informative and explains to me some stuff about my sibling and one of my favorite characters!! I love this! Happy Autism Acceptance Month!
I’ve never been diagnosed with autism by a doctor but i fit with pretty much all of the signs of it. I’ve pretty much ignored it for most of my life since i thought it was normal. I read an article about it and apparently boys get diagnosed more than girls because their signs are more pronounced, while girl’s signs can go more unnoticed. I’m thinking that’s probably why i never really thought to talk to anyone about it, since i thought it was just normal kid behavior, but I’m realizing now that i might have been wrong. Hunter was always my favorite character of the owl house since he acted a lot like me but didn’t know that they were autism signs until now. So i learned something interesting today!
My parents thought my sister might’ve been autistic but they never ended up taking her to get tested. Ive noticed for a while now i had the signs i knew about but didn’t really know all the signs until now. I kind of want to say something to my parents but i don’t think they would believe me. I love my parents and think they’re great but I believe parents think that autism is just not being able to function and having to have a person help them during school and all that. Yes, that may be the most prominent of the autism spectrum but there’s still a bunch of people out there with high-functioning autism who may not even know that they have it. Just realized I’m rambling, but it feels nice to vent about it! :)
@@GraceyMace if your parents don’t want to get you screened for something you may have then that’s a fucked up parent. My parents are like that so I lack relationships with them but I hope you either find yourself happy being self-diagnosed or your parents take you to get screened :)
One of my stims is that when i get excited and I’m around a person i like, i drum my hands on them, i don’t do it hard but i do it to my sister a lot and one day while we both had friends over doing a film project for school, so i was drumming on her like i usually do since i was excited (i was using lollipops for some reason) and she kept calling me the c word. It kinda irritated me and i may have smacked her a little bit too hard on the head, then she went on and made this huge scene in front of everyone crying and saying how I’m such a horrible sister because i always hit her! I don’t even hit her i just drum my hands on her back or shoulders when i get happy or excited, i do that with all my friends! She ended up getting me screamed at by my dad while i was just trying not to cry in front of them, went outside for a bit trying to calm down so we could finish filming but when i came back in, my mom asked me if i was okay. I almost burst into tears right as soon as i started talking, told them i needed a break, i got up and practically ran to my room, shut my door and into my dog’s fur for a while before my mom came into my room to talk with me telling me that we needed to film and that i won’t have to see her after we finish filming. This was a few weeks ago but I’m still pretty upset about it. She embarrassed me in front of everyone and I’m assuming when she went back to her room with her friend she was talking shit about me. I’ve never been so humiliated than in that moment and i still try to avoid her as much as possible so she doesn’t get me into trouble again. She does this shit all the time! She mostly does it to my parents, not in front of people but she makes a huge scene out of nothing then starts crying and runs off to her room and we just sit there like ‘wtf’. My sister’s fine when she’s not doing that shit but goddamn does she piss you off when she does. She is gonna be one hell of a Karen when she’s an adult! Kinda turned this into a rant but that’s the story of how i got screamed because i was stimming and my sister irritated me so i hit her a bit harder (keep in mind that it wasn’t that hard, imagine knocking on door level)
I know that I am autistic because it runs in the family and a lot of traits I have I see reflected in my siblings. I am just waiting to get an official diagnosis.
I relate a bunch to Hunter. He has so many traits I do and I love seeing him on screen, not portrayed as comic relief for his autism, not portrayed as stupid when he doesn’t understand things and being shown very positively. He is really good representation. Here’s one I’d like to add: in the flyer derby episode Willow says “You can attract new recruits with your sick flying skills” and he says “I don’t feel sick.”
GAAAHHHH WAIT WHAT?!?!!! MY FAV CHARACTER JUST LIKE MEEEEEEE 1:38 yep, as an autistic individual, I can confirm that the only way I can show I can relate is by talking about something similar that I’ve been through or done Hehe, I lov the sad but bad boi even more now
Great! I'm going to go cry in the corner and question if I'm autistic or not. (I'm not self diagnosing I'm just really confused and don't know how to process what I just learned. ( when I'm stressed I'll make little dragon noises in response cuz it's easier for me. Also I spent an hour trying firgure out how to word this.) sorry it so long. ;-;
3:44 this is interesting because the first episode we actually see Hunter interact with Luz he says "you don't really tend think things through, do you?"
even if he isn't confirmed to be autistic, i do think the choices dana made were very intentional. like you said, he literally has to "mask" and it isn't until the mask comes off that he's able to find out who he truly is, make connections, and show love for his special interests. great video! my partner is autistic and they really love and relate to hunter, i'm so glad that's a shared experience for autistic persons in the fandom!
The shutdown one really got to me. I have autism and around a month ago my girlfriend was put in a mental hospital after she was caught setting up her su!cid3 plan. I couldn't talk to her, no one would tell me what was going on, i felt helpless and like i had failed her. I was stuck in shutdown for 4 weeks. She's out now, but I still can't talk to her because her parents took her phone.
3:11 it took me a long time before I was finally able to make eye contact! Also I just realised how right you are about Hunter having Autism, there are so many similarities between me and Hunter
As for talking about ourselves in relation to others' struggles, a lot of neurotypical people mistakenly see this as us being self-centered. However, given how often autistic people are misunderstood, and how often neurotypicals try to act like they can understand what we're dealing with when they really don't, we see the discussion of our own similar problems as a way of reassuring the other person that we do understand and can relate to what they're going through, and that we're not just giving them ignorant and empty platitudes that don't apply to the situation at hand.
The issue is that a lot of these are common in certain personality types and even the different ticks manifest in non autistics people quite often. Of course, I cant deny I match many of them myself lol XD. Another important thing is that autism as a syndrome is not neccsarily diagnosable by the prescence of anyone specific trait as some syndrome are.
This video made me cry so fucking much, at 0:15 he was pacing which is a stim I do a lot and I feel like nobody talks about that stim so it just made me feel like I’m not alone
Respectfully, i think Hunter being able to notice small sounds is because of trauma… and the parts where he’s possessed are a bit of a stretch. i didnt really pick up on the rest of these though, so pretty cool ^v^
1:55 he was talking about that because she show him a picture of something that kinda hurt him, when she noticed, she felt bad of making things wrong, that why he says all of that in that scene, he wasn’t mad at them, he just didn’t knew how to express himself.
I was diagnosed not that long ago all these descriptions match a lot alike with me and what I do So thanks for this it really helps paint a picture for me
To me that last one looked like not understanding social cues. He looked confused and embarrassed when he didn’t understand what everyone else was doing and he acted like he understood what was going on
6:32 I didn’t know this and since I’m autistic I realised how accurate that was. It actually took me a very long time to get the one person, and then I start crying over something so small. My friend is actually a really smart and kind person.
the fact that most of the things Hunter does are similar or exact to what I do every day without realizing it is... impressive, I've always had suspicions that I really am autistic (I was even told I had autistic spectrum traits), I just need to get tested by a professional so I can definitely know if I am or not (although there is also the fact that I am ADHD person)
I'm autistic and I have an almost crippling mythology and language addiction. Never thought that would actually count as an autistic trait. 7:55 also I often stand like this staring at absolutely nothing
7:36 just a fyi, autistic peoples brains are not underdeveloped. thats not why its a disability. there is some tissue missing in certain parts according to some studies i guess?? autistic brains actually tend to grow much faster as kids than neurotypical ppl, but they do start shrinking earlier (mid twenties). the reason its a disability is because our brains work entirely different from neurotypicals which makes it hard to function in a world not built for us. as well as the sensory issues, shutdowns, meltdowns, and autistic burnout.
@@cunningsmile4166 it happens to everyone even neurotypicals, but its just little early for us. neurotypical brains start shrinking in their 30s-40s. its not anything to worry too much about; the change isnt that drastic
Thank you for saying this, as an autistic person I was confused and kind of sad about the implications of what was said in that part of the video being true, and I’m glad that someone called it out because misinformation is bad and being overly simplistic in describing something serious is also not great. ♥︎
The last one is "delayed reaction" which is common in autism where it takes a little longer for a person to process what is happening to react accordingly
Well.... I'm also autistic and some of my interests are considered cringe.... But f#ck what others say it's cringe to them but not to us our interests are special to us and we shouldn't let others dictate that we shouldn't like something that they don't
Some of these scenes feel a bit forced into the idea of Hunter having autism. I actually like the idea of him having PTSD. People who have PTSD can have alike symptoms to that of autism and other neurodivergent things whether they had it before or after the traumatic experience. I might have autism or ADHD or both based on the things I did as a toddler/child, but it's hard to tell because I went through some traumatizing stuff and have been diagnosed with PTSD which has similar symptoms. Honestly, it could go both ways, but I like the PTSD idea more. We also have to consider that he's from another dimension and probably wasn't allowed to do kid stuff. Some people who have gone through childhood trauma can regress when they are older and have child-like traits. I certainly went through that and so did my siblings and mom(my mom was groomed by my dad as a teen). This is just my couple cents though.
@@kalenkotalik yeah but even if he has trauma and is islated and there traits that cant be explained that those traits might be able to explained by him being in another world mabye not all but most
5:01 Sometimes its a ticking bomb 5:21. If i need to calm down away from things, i often grunt out a strained response to whomever asks me what im doing. If i get pestered and not allowed to go away, it builds up until KABOOM
I personally think Hunter is more CPTSD than Autism, but as an autistic person with CPTSD I love how the traits he exhibits overlaps both diagnoses !! Very good rep for both autism and CPTSD, as individuals and comorbidly
I just realized I forgot to add that Hunter shows to have poor proprioception (fine motoring skills) when he tried to cut is hair in the Thanks to Them montage and when he impaled his finger on the sewing machine also in Thanks to Them!
I love the fact that Hunter being O'Bailey and Gus being Avery is awesome hinting at the fact that Gus was starting to figure out Hunter was a grimwalker before anyone else
I also have Autism, and yes some of these I can relate to. Its different for everyone who has it. for me for an example; its difficult to keep eye contact when talking to someone, I sometimes repeat myself when talking, and I don't like some certain loud noises.
As someone who is autistic, i had a feeling that hunter might be autistic. I’m only just realizing now that he acts just like me lol. I love this man!!
Im 33 years old and as someone with high functioning autism and ADHD this actually help me truly understand about my autism not just by telling me the traits but by also showing the examples of those traits. Thank you for this video this means alot. Keep making more videos like this. It could help lots of people that they know what they have but have no example of what it looks like and help them understand of what they have.

@@ezzybean__ You get it!
Everyone is different-
I speculate he has both PTSD and autism because I have both and am pretty much Hunter in real life lol.
he also might be both
He for sure has PTSD from Belos and everything that happened in the Coven, and the masking confidence im almost certain had to do with his whole life, personality, and the only thing he ever was acknowledged for WAS being the Golde Guard and wearing that mask, however I do think its likely hes also on the spectrum! (Although everyone has a few ASD traits, which is why its autism SPECTRUM disorder)
He also emphasizes by talking to himself when he tries to comfort gus in one of the last season 2 episodes
I know but this video is about season 3 but thanks for considering!
He makes eye contact when willow is mentioned autistic people make eye contact with people they are comfortable around or when that person/people is mentioned but also it's common for autistic people to make to much eye contact so yeah it makes sense why he makes eye contact when willow is mentioned
OOOHHH I WAS ALWAYS CONFUSED AS TO WHY I MADE MORE EYE CONTACT (I am diagnosed with autism)

@@michalelkin-bronner13 it's thinking mostly.
I would like to point out that those traits can also stem from child abuse, and I think that this is the case here! That's actually why I thought I was autistic before I discussed it with my doctor. It still means that Hunter's neurodivergent tho 🐖
a lot of autistic people have ptsd too, which can make things a bit more complicated
@@marianmeletlidiscrap to double on this point, a lot of autistic people are abused/mistreated as children, whether it's via their parents or via bullying in school/in friend groups.
True! Autistic traits can come from build behaviors and brain connections too. All our weird brains are valid.
4:16 in that scene he wasn’t acting on impulse, he was possessed by Belos
You’re totally right and totally valid. Plus, ADHD and autism have a lot of traits in common, so this can be autistic coding too! /gen
Hyper and autistic differ in the ability to sit long times
@@LexithepoptartA lot of autistic people have ADHD as well
Or because it is a scene in which they focus more on the other characters and there they put him as a background character for a few seconds.
@@GusPorter-gi5ff Yes, this is true as well. Especially considering the amount of shots of NPC Luz and Amity there are in For The Future.
I think the nudging thing(where Willow is cutting her hair) is more because it’s books about witch hunters and he probably doesn’t want Willow to know about it.
I think they mean where he’s rubbing his elbow :0
I have diagnosed trauma, and I noticed alot of these symptoms are very similar. I'm unsure if he is autistic or simply traumatized 😭 also, the first part of "acting like an NPC" was him being possessed by belos, so I don't think it necessarily counts if it's belos trying to stay undercover and act normal
He was essentially a child soldier, so my first guess was traumatized...
Alr folks. Hear me out. Why not both?
(I’m autistic, and likely traumatised (no diagnosis, so take it with a grain of salt) and it’s not a combination you see too much representation of? Like off the top my head, I couldn’t name an autistic character with trauma in any media I’ve seen. So, a win for representation - if it is both. )
A very fair point
@@diakritika both ? thats a option

5:39, he's still using proper grammar (insistence on proper grammar usage could also be a trait, though)
"i think [those things wont happen]"
"i don't care to [know what those things are]"
Thank you! I'm a bit of a grammar nut, and I was looking for this comment. Neither of these instances are gramatically incorrect, they just leave off parts that could be implied. It's very common in spoken English and even in written English (as the "I think" could be separated by an em dash).
When he “flaps” is hands I think he only shows the motion a wolf makes with their paws, like you can do when you imitate a animal and say “rawr”
It was obvious
Being a person with Autism myself, Hunter is a relatable character.
I have a sister with autism, and seeing a video point out autistic traits in one of my favorite characters of TOH has helped me understand a bit more about her and bond with her! Thanks (also, I know I’m late but HAPPY AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MOUNTH!!)
Most of these can honestly be explained by the fact that Hunters was in a cult, his first real friend died, he’s a teenager, and he was alone most of his life
He's also traumatized, so yea
Pretty interesting. We can't be quite sure though because for each and every one of these behaviours you can trace it back to his life at the castle, which could also mean they're just trauma responses. Nonetheless, such is the beauty of leaving things to interpretation, and it's wonderful to see people relate to him on such a personal level
Alright, i can relate to a lot of this and a lot of hunter's character as a whole because sci-fi and wolves was literally me as a teen
-Rubbing skin as stimming: I rub my thumb and middle finger together a lot, i also find typing and games that focus a lot on quick hand reflexes to be a good way to maintain my hyperactivity
-The leg shake not so much, but i've done it once or twice.
-Vocal stimming: Whenever i'm excited about stuff, i always quietly scream "Yesss"
-Pacing: Totally.
It's one thing i'm always like "Why the hell do i do this and why do i always forget i do this minutes after i'm thinking about this?"
-Masking confidence: This is why i'm always online and will never do a face reveal.
-Unmasking: Totally, i have to always keep myself entertained in some way or i'm left with my anxiety-filled brain
-Scripting: I said Obi-Wan's signature line "Hello there" in the past ONCE. and now i say it EVERY TIME I GREET A STAR WARS FAN.
-Avoiding Eye Contact: whenever i cried i always would put my eyes on my knees to hide my face
-Social Cues and Norms: Oh my god i still cannot adapt to society, i sit in the weirdest positions, i do make a few other mess-ups but not sitting in the way everyone else does is the one that i always am reminded of when explaining why a character is autistic and they get to the social norms part
-Acting without second thought: I always trust my gut before trusting my brain.
-Going nonverbal: Cant relate that much, for me it's honestly the opposite when i'm doing something stressful
-Meltdowns: I would go into a gamer rage whenever i was at my limit
-Shutdowns: Whenever i'm super stressed and dont want anything to escalate further i just try to seperate myself from everyone else and focus on me
-Struggling to express emotion: Yeah, i used to never talk to my family about shit because i couldnt even process anything when i needed it.
-Small details and hearing senses: I swear man, everytime my old-ass fan makes a noise i dont recognize, i flinch hearing it and immediatly think "Oh my god it's gonna fall," and also whenever i'm watching gameplay and the youtuber does something and talks about it, i'm just like "You dingus that's not what that does, that's not how that works, check the wiki next time."
-Acting like an NPC: totally. Now, enough about myself, traveller. We shall focus on you, as the customer is right. Do you have an interest in my wares?
-You also forgot struggles with not being good enough, it could be just a normal thing, but it's another common thing i find both myself and Hunter struggling with.
2:14 notice how he immediately rejects any change of plans. Even though he’s very nervous and might benefit from having extra support.
as an autistic person myself, all this is VERY accurate to me, i make a lot of hand gestures, obsessed with nerdy things, and more, i would love for dana terrance to reveal hunter is autistic, since she already revealed he’s bisexual
yes it is revealed that he is bi but many people are going to yell at her for forced lgbtq rep
holy shit he REALLY just like me fr. i'm bi and i'm 90% sure i'm autistic

All i see is a kid who grew up sheltered and traumatized.
I know what you mean
He shows autistic traits that can't be explained by cptsd
I’m glad I could help!
Ive always founded hunter relatable and now you're scaring me with these facts 😰

Hearing is utter PAIN. The sensitivity is not what its cracked up to be.
0:39 “and I love them” same bro same
The issue is that a lot of these are common in certain personality types and even the different ticks manifest in non autistics people quite often.

I relate so much to Hunter a lot, his character development grew pretty good, from chaotic neutral to good, being autistic myself, I love Hunter.
1:55 he was talking about that because she show him a picture of something that kinda hurt him, when she noticed, she felt bad of making things wrong, that why he says all of that in that scene, he wasn’t mad at them, he just didn’t knew how to express himself.

the fact that most of the things Hunter does are similar or exact to what I do every day without realizing it is... impressive, I've always had suspicions that I really am autistic (I was even told I had autistic spectrum traits), I just need to get tested by a professional so I can definitely know if I am or not (although there is also the fact that I am ADHD person)

Neurotypicals can display autistic traits as well, just not as much as those who are autistic.
