I love Charlotte, I moved here five years ago, broke homeless with nothing. Spent 30 days at the Salvation Army then went to the Men's Shelter at 1210 N. Tryon. Got a job at Nolen Kitchen and got out of the shelter after a few months. Relapsed ended up homeless again living out of a storage unit. I went to the Charlotte Rescue Mission, I got my life back on track, and I am forever grateful to the CRM for what they do. Now I see 100's of tents around Urban Ministries and I can't help but realize it has changed this much since I got here in the last couple of years. Sad sad story but it could be worse.
Allot of people don't realize that Charlotte is a major banking hub because Charlotte was the center of the first gold rush in the United States. A gold belt runs from Georgia up through the Carolina's. From 1799 till 1849, so much gold was coming out of the area that the government located a mint in the Charlotte area so that it could be closer to the source of what was most of the domestic supply of gold in the US at that time. Of course in 1849, folks moved west and huge strikes of gold started the western migration that impacted the Carolina Gold rush but gold was still being mined in NC to some extent well into the early 1900's although the heyday was over. Charlotte is crisscrossed with many mine tunnels under its street to this day from famous mines such as the St. Catherine, Rudisell and Capps mines to name a few. The largest gold nugget ever found in the eastern US a 28 pound monster was pulled out of Little Meadow Creek in neighboring Cabarrus County on the famous Reed Mine property, home of the first major gold discovery in the US in 1799. The most significant silver deposits at that time also were found just a few miles north of Charlotte in Davidson County at the Silver Hill Mining district. These mines continued to operate even during the Civil war since the lead from the Silver Hill mines was instrumental for use in Confederate bullets. Due to the need for bullets during that time, many of the bullets contained as much silver as they did lead because there simply wasn't enough time to separate the two. So it is true that the Confederate army was shooting silver bullets at the Union soldiers unknowingly. Many people don't realize the rich history of Charlotte and the surrounding area of NC. The schools aren't really teaching it and that's sad. There are four bronze statues at the intersection of Trade and Tryon Street in Charlotte that commemorate the history of the Charlotte area. One of these, is a gold prospector.
Dude! Your material is awesome..... u do some phenomenal work. U should do the rest of the major cities of the Carolinas, Raleigh Durham, Charleston,Fayetteville, Columbia and so on. Incredible!
@@jerrydavis3548 that's not altogether true..... u look at the Raleigh Durham area and how it's grown plus the Wilmington and Triad areas of our state have grown large and as far as South Carolina, Greenville and Charleston are on a tear as well. Just look them all up on TH-cam and you'll be pleasantly surprised!
@@jerrydavis3548 that's not true. The other NC cities are unique, they may not be as big as Charlotte but they still are progressive in their own way. Raleigh-Durham area alone is very progressive maybe even more than Charlotte
