DAN!!! This is the 4th vlog In a row I am watching and I tell you what.. You are a true gent. Proper funny with the one liners on each vlog and love you approach for all the fish you target plus looking after the banks with picking up and taking other peoples rubbish home. Your a top bloke👌👍
I see this video is quite old now and I'll have to watch your more modern stuff as you may have changed your approach. the problem with leaving the pike in the net before unhooking is the pike may still swallow the bait. Barbed hooks are more likely to stay in place but not 100%. I unhook straight away then return it to the water In the net to rest if I want to weigh or get a photo. I have seen a bait in a pikes mouth as it went into the net and because I had a second run played the next pike but in that time It swallowed the bait. A few other incidents also made me aware how quickly pike will swallow baits when we stop applying pressure. This stopped me using barbless and made me change my sequence of unhooking. Your river rigs are spot on I use a very similar setup and I'm very impressed with your fishing I'll scribe.
Great video. You can tell you are worried about the "experts" turning up to criticise your pike handling. You are fine mate and a bloody good angler too. Top job.
Hahaha yeah mate nearly all my pike videos eventually get a comment about fish care or rigs etc so I try to explain everything as I do it to keep those armchair experts happy. Cheers for watching mate
@@dangoesoutdoors897 I've had a couple on my vids too... and I'm by no means perfect. If I'm watching a video, I want to see how he got on fishing. Not to find things to pick at. We all learn, and all improve. Some good tips in there! Looking forward to your next vid!
Nice video. Nice how you gently treat the pike, except always check the upper jaw. Easy to repear, makes it a lot easyer to eat and grow. Also the gill arches must be checked. I had once that they weren't in line. I think its important to put in place. Its one of the most important vital organs of the pike i think. You treat the fish well, and your an experience angler. Must be no problem for you mate. Good job and good luck with fishing!!!
Not tryed them but often thought of it. To be honest I havn't had many problems with trebles but I am thinking of changing one of the hooks to a single
Last time I was at that peg I was stung by all sorts of plants about 1000 times 🤣, I was gonna go down there 2 weeks ago but with the weather I didn’t bother, great video as usual.
Thanks mate yeah I try to show the fish care side of things well. To be honest when I'm on the bank youngsters normally have big nets and mats with them probably because its carp fishing thats got them into the sport.
is this is fishing ? i don't understand you british people, i think i will put all river with deadbaits and go home watch tv from now on, after will go collect them.
Very good example of landing and returning pike Dan but its bad to openly advertise your local swim like this, do you realise you will ruin your own favourite water by doing this ?
Thanks Bill. Can't say I'm bothered about the swims being ruined, I don't name waters unless they're commercials and these spots are no secret to the local club members
if everyone treated pike like you Dan there would be no problem, but there are a lot of migrant workers in the area who kill all they catch , they have emptied the Derwent and other rivers in York area. If you pan down your camera you can be much more discrete and not give away your swims to the fish thieves.

I love your enthusiasm Dan. A great ambassador for the sport, and I'd be proud to fish with you one day buddy ?.
Dan, have you tried circle hooks yet? Or any thoughts on them. I've got some to try out, they make sense from the pikes perspective.
Not tryed them but often thought of it. To be honest I havn't had many problems with trebles but I am thinking of changing one of the hooks to a single
