    Back when trucks were trucks and not plastic sports utility vehicles that can't handle speed bumps. I'm very envious.

    I love channels like this. I'm currently looking for an old-school truck that runs well and in good shape and I'll add all the bells and whistles later. Nothing like a metal rig that demands respect on the road and will barely have a scratch on it mean while the new vehicles fall apart from coming in contact with a strong wind.

    My Son just became a Marine on 2/5/21 from Parris Island.
    I am buying a GMC Suburban 2500 SLE 2wd for $1500. with 233,000 miles.
    Your truck is bad ass, I am going to watch the video now.
    Take care

    My first truck was an '86 Silverado. You could beat it to death and fix it back up super easy. Other thing worth mentioning for preppers is that an EMP would only take it out of commission for ten minutes if you keep a couple of cheap and easy spare parts around.

    • @joshjenkins3815
      @joshjenkins3815 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Only good if she was a diesel. Gas would go bad months after the emp hits.

    • @reallyhappenings5597

      If China ever uses an EMP, the US will respond with a nuke.

    • @blaquejaque9702
      @blaquejaque9702 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I heard the EMP continuously pulses to take out whatever is repaired. Also they make something for vehicles but whether it will work or not it's yet TBD.

    My dad just handed me down his old daily driver, an 86 k20 burban, and I have loved that truck ever since he got it back in 05 and now that I'm about to get my license he passed it onto me and I cannot explain my excitement lol

    • @noahgaray7923
      @noahgaray7923 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make a video! Lucky you’ve got a k20 with an upgraded th350 or th400 (or a rare manual) the half ton k10 version only had the th350 and they usually burn up from the constant weight of them.

    Got me my 83 Suburban 6.2. 15600. In GREAT shape. I do not have my winch hooked up yet. my father-in-law is a master welder / fabricator and is building me a brush guard for the front and back. And then I'm going to be coating the entire thing with maxxlife but I am going to stick to the original color scheme. You are an inspiration my friend! Got two tents, four sleeping bags, 4 Life vests a cooler with survival gear and Fire Starting equipment, water purification and dehydrated meals. Also A fire extinguisher. A jack. A jumper box. First aid kit. And I'm about to hook up my CB. Hopefully getting it lifted 3 in. I also got me some good off-road 15" tires. It's definitely my dream machine!Happy And the whole family loves it! By the way I heard you loud and clear the entire video. ;-)

    Love your Suburban, I have an '87 silverado half ton 4x4 single cab long bed myself. They are tough but simple trucks. Easy to maintain and surprisingly capable off road for such a large vehicle. I'll be doing a few videos of mine soon, thanks for the inspiration.

    This is awesome. I have been considering an old suburban as my BOV. I like the organization of your pouches in the rear. Proper video; very universal- no political bs, no preachy stuff, just good old proper information. More people need to do videos like this. Ima gonna check out more of your videos later, very impressed sir. You have a ton of decals, does that interfere with your visibility at all?

I almost forgot to mention my brother is also a Marine who finished his tour and went on to other things. Thank you so much for your service and helping keep America safe.

    I loved the square body style of the Chevys back in the 70's/80's. they looked tough and they were/are solid steel. This was when Chevy made great trucks. Awesome job!!

  • @dalejohnson9342
    @dalejohnson9342 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    When I was in the military we had to grease our wire (steel rope) cables. It lubricates the strands so that they do not chafe against each others and it also keeps them clean and protected from dirt, water and all sorts of bad things. Also every once in a while you need to clean the grease out of the cable and then re-grease it. That takes the dirt between the strands out and re-lubes the inner cables.

    Just watched your video, I have an 86' 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban Military Version, I've been working on making a Bugout Vehicle for a few years now, I have owned it since 1997, it started out as a hunting vehicle, but in the past 5 years I've been slowly converting it into the ultimate Bugout Rig, you're video has given me some great ideas for mine, keep up the awesome videos, have you thought about adding a Ham Radio setup to your rig, That's how I stay in touch with my family and friends while on off reading overland runs, again thanks for the awesome video, I thought I was the only person building a Bugout Vehicle from a Suburban 👍🏻✊🏼🇺🇸

    The second vehicle I ever owned was a 1977 Blazer. My Blazer was a lot like your Suburban, the tires where even the same.I had it for around 8 years and never got stuck in it. I live in North East Tennessee too, so you know I tried lol. I had it in the snow storms we had in 93,96, and 98. They don't make them like they use to. I miss my truck now lol.

    I love your truck, great setup, only caveat I would give is you said "new vehicles have push button electronic lockers"(paraphrasing) I'm not sure if your just talking about putting the vehicle into 4 wheel drive or actual lockers like on a Rubicon wrangler. Big difference between a locker which goes in your differential and locking hubs. With locking hubs you still have a open differentials which whatever tire gets the least amount of traction spins, with a limited slip in your differential whatever tire gets the most traction spins, and with a locker it locks the tires together so they both spin equally (a lunchbox, electronic, or full spool is all on cost and personal preference). Whether you put the locker in the front diff or the rear, or both is all up to you. If you don't have lockers yet, I would encourage you to get some, makes a world of difference offroad. As I said though beautiful truck, great job on the bumpers, and the build overall.

    Love your rig, I have a 2 built up land cruisers, one new one older. But that burban has always been a vehicle I wanted (especially after seeing Dontes Peak) lol...can the sheltered cargo space you cant beat, you throw a small box trailer behind that and you can take the whole house...nice man

    Considered adding an additional battery for a parallel or independent system? Would come in handy for winching. Keep a fresh battery for starting while you have another powering radio, winch, roof lights or other auxiliary items.
    Who makes or sells that roof rack?
    With those gears, are you screaming at highway speed or not to bad?

    Informative video thank you! My favorite model Suburban the square body solid axle trucks! You are very polite and soft spoken I sense your manners where taught growing up or military or both. If that jacket is real then thank you for your service. Few questions what size tire and wheel package is that? Who made those killer front and rear bumpers? What was that spark under neath by the winch when working it? Loose ground or squirrel? God Bless America.

    I'm about to pull the trigger on an 88 burban here in a week or so that could be this one's brother. Pretty stoked because it's gonna be the first four wheel drive I will have ever owned
    So I bought it. Already dagged it thru some ditches and holes and I gotta say, I think I'm in love. Truck runs better than my 08 Silverado and rides like a straight axle 4x4

    Sadly where we live in Commiefornia we can't leave ANYTHING in our vehicles as someone WILL break in, smashing windows or steal the whole vehicle with their nasty tweeker selves Lol. I lived in the Philippines for over 5 years and my wife and I had a 74 Toyota Fj40 with a 4" lift, 12" x 33" tires on bead lock rims, anti inversion shackles, power steering, roof rack with large lights, high lift jack, spare fuel cans, water cans, snorkels for typhoon season etc etc and no one touched it! Couldn't bring it to the USA with us in 2013 because the shipping would have been $3000 not including having to pay off corrupt customs officers before we ever left country. Sooooooo, we sold it.

      +Matthew Green. Does every bug-out vehicle have to be modded to the gills with stuff, and always packed with stuff, just for the sake of having stuff? Not every BOV has to look like it was on the SEMA convention floor that day. I personally think SSGT Badass' 'Burban is badass, and as SSGT Badass said, it's his family daily, hence the car seats. Peace out.

    Thank you for showing the rear bumper now I know what I need on my 85 bourbon mine's got a 12 inch lift four on the body 8 on the suspension it sits on 40 inch bear claws.
    Had the 350 gone through and everything is sweet with a turbo 400 behind it.
    With a few modifications I got rid of the junk aluminum transfer case and installed an np205.
    I found a smashed 85 C30 Air Force truck at a salvage yard and was able to get the entire truck for 800 bucks for spare parts for the bourbon.
    Square body Bourbons are getting harder to find most of them are rust buckets or have been cut up and made into mudding vehicles.
    It was my first choice for bug-out vehicle.
    I have a roof rack similar to your Defender the only difference is I have a roof hatch that I installed where I can go up top from the inside but I do like the idea of the old Chevy van ladder that you put on the rear barn doors.
    Anyhow my brother that's a sweet bourbon.
    And by the way my other vehicle is an 18-wheeler. Lol
