- Well, if you followed the saga, you know it's a miracle that this is posted! After two and half weeks of messing with this video, trying to get it to clear copyright, I can't even tell if it's good anymore. But it's posted, so that's what matters! I had a lot of fun with this movie, and I really do have to compliment Daniel Craig on his range, particularly now having seen a bit of his James Bond. Enjoy the reaction, and I'll see you next week!

The foreshadowing I love is "clue is a dumb game, I hate running around, searching rooms, checking boxes" this is what hellen does all weekend.
Related, the first half of the movie is pretty much Blanc being the imposter in the island game of Among Us

I've seen this movie twice now, and the second time around, it hits you: None of the 'Disruptors' had two IQ points to rub together. Peg, mom, and assorted people standing around the boxes figured out the clues. The TH-cam star living with his mom and pimping out his girlfriend, while raging about Feminists. The Engineer who keeps defending the 'misunderstood genius' who is gonna blow up have of civilization. The Influencer who couldn't be trusted with a phone because she kept tweeting such stupid things. The politician who didn't have a clue what was going on and just did what the rich guy said. Hosted by the Billionaire who let everyone else come up with every idea he had in the whole movie.
We don't notice because it's played for comedy, but all of them... The Glass Onion. Peel back a thousand layers, but there's nothing there.
The politician is probably the most realistic part of the whole bunch.
That's at least half of the American congress today, probably 2/3+

Something i love about this movie is the "disruption theory speach" that Miles give to Blanc is foreshadowing the last moment with Helen breaking everything, she start's small and gets everyone excited until she gets to the "infraction point" and brakes "the thing that no one wants her to brake" and at that point everyone try to stop her, she even makes the double finger that Miles gives when he said the speach the first time

Fun fact: the self-portrait that Miles has is actually Edward Norton's face superimposed over Brad Pitt's body in Fight Club.
It says a lot about Duke as a character that he carries a gun on his person wherever he goes (because "you never know when shit's gonna go down") but not an epipen.
I can't help feeling bad for his mom, though. Her son might have been an asshole, but he was still her son.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who noticed this! As someone with allergies and a cousin with an iodine allergy, epipens are everywhere.
Plot-twist: the gun doubles as an epipen.

If Duke's mom hadn't hit him while growing up he might have turned out better.
@@Carabas72 Not saying this to justify or excuse hitting children (it’s a terrible thing to do under any circumstance), but child-hitting doesn’t make someone a gun-carrying misogynist. Duke crossed that bridge all by himself.
You say "the mark of a good mystery is that you can see the clues."
This is absolutely the best movie for that. **everything** is in plain sight.
You see Miles swap the glasses, take the gun, the gun flashes in the shadows, and of course "Glass Onion." As a title basically gives it all the way.
The only major thing is the twin sister twist but that's not a big deal, every movie gets one free pass.
That was my thought, too. Surprise twins always make me think I'm watching a soap opera, not a murder mystery, but it paid off well enough that I was okay with it. You can earn almost anything if you can write it well enough. (I felt the same way about the barfing thing in the first movie.)
(I'm not against soap operas, by the way -- I grew up obsessed with Dark Shadows -- but there are different expectations, like you can't have somebody in a police procedural suddenly whip out a magic ring or a phaser.)
Even the twin sister twist is in plain sight: Benoit uses the wrong name at one point, and Claire notes the differences in behavior even before that.
You can see Duke's phone in Miles's pants pocket multiple times if you're looking, too! 😁
Even the twin twist was hiding in plain sight. "Andi" gripping the railing was her being uneasy on the boat, Det. Blanc called her Helen right before she was shot.

The foreshadowing is the name of the movie, "Glass Onion." As Benoit said it's an object that has many layers and appears complicated but the center is in full view the whole time.
I saw this when it was in theatres which was a few weeks after a certain billionaire bought a certain social media site and this movie was a beautiful catharsis to all that. The “___ ___ is an idiot” scene is just gold. Daniel Craig is having so much fun. Janelle Monae is great and the performance works even better for me on a rewatch. And I never thought I would be so glad that Kate Hudson is back. She’s able to play beautiful moron so well without it being too much.
You picked up on Duke's phone being weird much faster than I did! And I thought Helen was dead still even through the flashback 😂

I love the take on this being New Money, versus Knives Out being Old Money, it's soooo good.
You’re plenty smart! The movie isn’t designed for the viewer to guess things in the first half. The tools are there but it’s almost crafted as a comedy. It’s only when you look back (or rewatch it) that all the pieces fall into place. PLUS- you caught on to some clues at the beginning of the movie!
Yeah, too many people act like a murder mystery story is some kind of test they can pass or fail.

One bit of foreshadowing I only recently noticed: the dress that Helen wears when she first arrives at the island foreshadows her outfit in the climax - both have red on the left side of the chest. ^^

When Blanc yells "Helen" before the flashback, I think part of the reason we're encouraged to dismiss it is that Blanc has already established that he often charmingly avoids swearing ("fiddlesticks!" "Halle Berry, that has a kick!"). It's plausible that he'd say "Helen!" in lieu of "Hell!"

I have seen him in so many other things, and he will always be Steve to me 😂 I think that was actually the first time I ever saw him (and it's one of my all time favorite movies--I actually drive a red Mini Cooper because of it).

You are plenty smart enough for this movie! You guessed several of the mysteries correctly, like the ultimate fate of the Mona Lisa, and the fact that Helen was not really dead.

For sure! Janelle Monaé absolutely knocked it out of the park. I don't think there were any really weak performances, but she stole the show, hands down. Kathryn Hahn is also just a scene stealer wherever she goes, and while some others may not, I really enjoy Craig's Benoit Blanc. He's campy and a joy to watch!

-I saw this in the theater when it had its one week run. During Helen’s glass breaking, I was doing everything I could to not pop. I was in the back mouthing “YES!” and clenching my fist. I had been riding a high over something that was less than two weeks away and this kept it going.I don’t care what Ben Shapiro says. This movie was fantastic.
-Benoit solving the murder mystery before it had even happened was hysterical. The arrow firing and the expression on Miles’ face as it hits him with “blood” spurting out was the perfect ending of that.
-I loved the rewind back to reveal how Benoit was invited. Then, when they incorporated that with the rest of the movie that had happened, it fit well like how Back To The Future 2 took the events of the first one and added the plot of the second one to create a seamless movie.
- Johnson manages to come up with the most unique casting choices. Seeing Dave Bautista here shows how far he’s come since doing a wrestling vignette where he came out of the Ohio River as Leviathan in WWE’s developmental system at the time.
-I still think Benoit playing Among Us in the bathtub against Stephen Sondheim, Angela Landsbury, Natasha Lyonne, and Kereem Abdul Jabbar is one of the greatest “Wait. Is that….?” scenes.
-I never realized that Derol was the same guy that played Trooper Wagner in “Knives Out.”
-I’m not sure if I’d consider this is a sequel or further adventures.

The thing about the puzzles is that they ARE simple. The average person might mistakenly think they're more complex and they must be stupid because they don't know chess or Morse code and can't solve them on their own. But if you come into it with the correct foreknowledge to recognize what you're looking at on sight, then there's literally no substance to them. You know you're looking at an optical illusion, so you just do the trick with your eyes you need to see where the button is and press it. You know how to decode the dots and dashes in Morse code, so you just do what the message tells you to do. It's not like when you play an actual puzzle game like Portal or even something as simple as Sudoku where you need no external knowledge outside the game's own mechanics and you have to make actual logical deductions in order to solve the problems they present.
Birdie was definitely my favorite character. I wouldn’t be a fan in real life, but for some reason she was the most tolerable of the “disrupters” to me

I enjoyed the movie, but I liked the first one more.
I like that, no matter who you are, there's at least one person in this movie who's smarter than you are, but there's also at least one person who's dumber than you are. Us, in the audience? We're all somewhere in the middle.
That being said, when Blanc told Miles that the box had contained simple, children's puzzles, it turned out that he was lying. He'd had the box delivered to him in pieces. 🙂

For all the times you said you weren't smart enough for this movie, you are the only person I've seen to consistently guess the plot twists before they happen.
I enjoy them both, but I think Glass Onion is more of a fun murder romp.
It definitely has a different tone, and I love that about it. It has a lot of the elements that made the first one good, but it feels completely new, and much lighter than Knives Out. Truly a delight!

I love that Daniel Craig really worked hard for that funny accent in this movie, he sounds so different in comparison to the Bond movies.
my brother and sister IMMEDIATELY noticed Miles handing Duke the glass and I was like, what? and we had to replay it.

The biggest hole in this story is that it is in Greece instead of the Florida keys or some other US coastal island. It is almost impossible to get a firearm, especially a handgun, into a European country. And Greece is more restrictive than most others. Dave Bautista's character would never have gotten it past Greek customs, let alone been able to OPEN CARRY it or discharge it on the pier in the port town.

Thank you for reviewing one of my favs of 2022. Netflix signed Rian Johnson to do at least two more of the series on the streaming service. I don't know if Knives Out is an official part of the trilogy because it was a theatrical release.

Loved the reaction! I’m a huge fan of the first and this lived up to the hype as a sequel. Also they are already doing a 3rd movie. Netflix bought the rights after KO came out under the stipulation that 2 more be made.
I enjoy that so much of your vocabulary is taken from The Good Place.
First, thank you for thoroughly entertaining me, an old woman with way too much time of her own. Indeed I really enjoyed your reactions to Rian Johnson’s « Glass Onion ». I did for five main reasons:
1) Your comments were relevant, smart and to the point. BTW let me vouch personally for the one about not going into business with friends as it could ruin your friendship, a compounded gaffe if you add family members to the mix, which I unfortunately did in my youth. But eh!, as Craig’s Bond says himself to Vesper on the beach: « Lesson learned! ».
2) Your pleasant and animated face reacting to what you were watching.
3) The time and efforts you put into enriching your video with fun images or relevant quotes from famous movies.
4) The movies you reacted at so far are all favourites of mines.
5) The care you took to dress according to the movie you’re about to watch. It’s good to learn your reason for picking your outfit when you react to a movie.

Netflix paid $479 million for the rights to Knives out 2 and 3 so there will be another. The director, producer and Daniel Craig each got $100 million.
I don't think there's anything to really nitpick in regards to what information the movie gives the audience and whether or not they had the chance to solve the mystery themselves. Like, there isn't really anything withheld to conceal the answers. Benoit might have known more than we did at the start, but by the end when he starts laying it all out, we've been given all the same information he has. Like, if you're upset that you couldn't predict Andi was dead and we've been watching her twin pose as her the whole time, the reason you weren't given enough clues to guess that is because that's just the midpoint twist, not the final conclusion. The twist IS information you're being given so that you can solve the actual mystery.
Johnson did a very good job (and a difficult one) of making sure it was a satisfying "Benoit Blanc" mystery, but also making its setting and plot structure very different, so there's no sense of just seeing the same movie with a slightly bigger budget.
You did well in picking up clues and making guesses, but that's in part because Johnson has no interest in cheating the audience. He gives a fair chance of working it out as it goes. (Although having said that, Knives Out was trickier because it had the illusion of turning from a murder-mystery into a Hitchcock-style thriller for its second act.)
I asked a friend about if he predicted a movie's twist once (not a Johnson film), and he said no he didn't - because you can't; the filmmaker just didn't give you enough information *to* guess it. Johnson doesn't do that. He gives you a fair shot (no pun intended).
Oh..., and as for a third one, I think Netflicks had built that into their deal. Also, Rian Johnson has said as long as Craig is willing to play Blanc, he'll keep writing these stories. Daniel Craig is clearly loving it - so yes, there'll be at least one more. And I'm here for it.
Great reactions to the sequel Glass Onion, Jacqui!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽After multiple viewings of this film, something did occur to me. Once it was revealed that Andi was Helen, why didn't Helen go back to her own accent? I do like this one better than the first film. A third film would be great!🙂
A Knives Out Mystery (spoiler free)
The 2019 original Knives Out and the 2022 sequel Glass Onion are rewatchable films. Unlike other movies in the “whodunit” (murder) genre, the reveals enhanced rewatch experience as subtle clues became obvious.
The director (Rian Johnson) is a master of expectation subversion and misdirection, as he made a distinctly different sequel in the same universe. Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is the only returning character anchoring both movies.
The first movie was set in a stuffy British house with a patriarch and his dysfunctional family (old money-ish).
The sequel was set on a private Greek island of a billionaire surrounded by his inner circle of “disrupters” (new money-ish).
The first movie is better (in my opinion), but the second is a worthy sequel - more transparent (glass), more layered (onion), and more fun in the sun.
Great movie. It didn’t grab me quite as quickly as Knives Out, but I think it’s actually more clever and rewatchable.

I loved this movie. It is more of a mystery - style movie than a traditional whodunit, with vital information withheld from the audience. Some grumpy critics have whined on that score. It doesn't take away from what the movie is.
I agree with them in the sense that that's bad writing on a technical level, but I think the movie is done so well that it shouldn't matter. Something doesn't have to be technically great to be fun and enjoyable, and that's exactly what this movie is. I absolutely loved it!
@@movienightwithjacqui I would say that neither of the Knives Out movies have been whodunits. They put on the tropes of a whodoneit, but I think it has been more a crime thriller type vibe to the actuall story, you could even argue a comedy with the "its just dumb" ending. I think if it was setting out to be a whodoneit I might be mad about hidden information, but I think this movie is just to much fun and is not even trying to be a true whodone it! No idea if I got my ideas off correctly, but I think that is enough typing for tonight.

Thought of another thing. One of my favorite TV shows is called "Leverage" (If you have not see it, go watch it. There are new episodes currently being put out) and it does a similar thing to this. You get to see the original con (or mystery in this case) from the perspective out a outsider, and then as the movie/show moves on you get more reveled. I think it is a very fun way to tell a story, and in the end, at least to me, it feels like a puzzle clicking itself together on the screen.
I saw in the cinema (and 4 times since), it was my third favourite film of last year and whilst I prefer the mystery of the first, this one is just so much fun I can’t resist going back. Along with Paddington In Peru, the third Benoit Blanc film is my most anticipated threequel. Also I can recommend the Paddingtons to react to.
Another movie sort of along these lines is "The Menu"

I noticed Miles giving Duke his glass and Blanc calling Helen by her name, but in a 'murder mystery', I try to notice everything I possibly can.
This film has a couple things in it that I really don't like. First of all, there's no way Miles would let Blanc keep that hydrogen crystal. Hold it and look at it, but not keep it. Secondly, if the gang was all at Andi's house that night, there's no way that none of them heard Andi's car running in the garage. But the main thing is that just because Miles has the envelope doesn't mean he killed Andi. Blanc's theory was that someone brought it there to give to him. They could have already given it to him, so that plot point was meh for me.

I would recommend checking out the 1920 silent horror classic called The Golem: How He Came into the World, if that's OKay? It's a great little horror movie about the creation of an artificial clay monster in order to save the Jews. I think it'd be cool to see someone cover the movie about the monster of Jewish fairy tales and Jewish folklore. It's really creepy, weird, and atmospheric in the best ways.

I mean, if you like these Rian Johnson mysteries, why not check out the 1970s mystery that inspired him? The Last of Sheila (1973) was written by Stephen Sondheim (West Side Story) and Anthony Perkins (Psycho), with an all-star cast (James Mason, James Coburn, Richard Benjamin, Diane Cannon, Raquel Welch, Ian McShane, Joan Hackett)...and is possibly the most perfect murder mystery film ever. It's a film that really tells you everything ahead of time, and you will be kicking yourself for missing the clues. It's a mystery that doesn't cheat.
If you haven't seen it can you please do Erin Brockovich and Jerry Maguire.

I remember seeing The 6th Sense in the cinema when it first came out. A gang of us went. We were all ... WOW. Except for one of our group, who figured it out in the first few minutes. As clever as he was, I remember thinking, and saying over pints after the movie ... how sad for you. The only reason you sat through the movie was to prove yourself correct, while we all just enjoyed the ride, and the twist. Movies are suposed to be entertainment, first and foremost. If they make you think, even better, but ... their first priority ...
I didn’t like this movie until I heard all the Easter eggs that put it into context. While I still don’t think it’s as good as Knives Out, it’s really leapt up in rating over the last few weeks as I get other people’s take on it.

Yeah this movie, I doubt you can figure out yourself until very late. Most of it is about having to fill the blanks to fit a certain narrative and a narrative can be anything. Once the things start to fall into place, its realy fun though.
You really can't, just because of the way it's written. It's technically not great mystery writing, but who cares? Like you said, it's a fun movie, and that's all that matters 😊

"Andi" is actually her twin in the first half - but the clues for everything else are there. I actually thought that was clever, considering that the vast majority of people are seeing this movie on a streaming platform and not in the theatre, so they can easily rewatch it and notice all the little things they overlooked the first time (like Miles' misuse of words or Helen dropping her phone into Birdie's bag).

From the description given it sounds like the killer drugged her to knock her out, then searched and found the letter, then put her in her car in the garage and started the engine. Then just left, so when the killer saw her he/she just assumed they failed and Andi came to reveal what had been done.
28:28 You need to watch the movie a second time, you can literally see all the clues. I have watched it 4 times know and I pick up on more stuff each time I watch it (the first watch thru I turned my brain off and just enjoyed the ride).

My brain genuinely malfunctioned, and I just couldn't say Norton 😂 I said it fine a few minutes later, but it just stopped working for a moment. The Italian Job is one of my all time favorite movies (I actually drive a red Mini Cooper because of it).

Both 😊 I saw the remake when it first came out and absolutely fell in love with it--and Mini Coopers. I wanted one for years, and my family laughed so hard when I finally got one (2018), because they knew exactly why. I even named her Stella after Charlize Theron's character. The remake will always be special to me, just because it was my first experience, but I love the original, and my dream is to eventually own a fully restored 1960s Mini.

At the end of day Helen did push the button that destroyed the Mona Lisa. I really don't think the French would let her get away with that. She would do some prison time. The politician and the science guy would also be ruined by their association with Miles.
You're probably right about Lionel, but I'm not sure about the others. Helen is definitely in the clear: the Mona Lisa is a fake (the real Mona Lisa was painted on wood, not canvas), so the French will likely let it slide. Claire _might_ be able to salvage her career, given that she was unaware of the dangers of Klear until they were on the island, and had built her campaign around renewable energy in general.
Miles, however, believed the Louvre had sent him the real painting, and installed an override on the security system anyway. That's gonna cost him.
Miles was 1) not allowed to have an override button for the Mona Lisa's security and 2) not allowed to run his house on highly experimental hydrogen fuel. Helen couldn't possibly have destroyed the Mona Lisa without those two things.
He's totally on the hook for it, and his insurance companies will pretend they've never even heard of him.

It's the real painting. The real-world Mona Lisa being painted on wood doesn't matter. World-famous celebrity detectives are not a thing in the real world. These stories do not tale place in the real world.
Also, there originally was a scene that explained it wasn't the real Mona Lisa (at the insistance of the studio) but Ryan Johnson hated it and removed it because it undermined the entire movie. The story just doesn't work with a fake Mona Lisa.

eventually people will learn how to react to these movies. there's nothing to predict. you'll never have enough info to solve anything. these aren't real murder mysteries. you just sit back and watch it unfold, it doesn't require you to figure anything out.

Ok I just wanted to let you know this: I always give different content providers a shot, especially reaction videos. But just a few minutes into your video I had to cut it off. The problem was your use of DINGS to notate text on the screen. I know alot of content providers use this because they think it's cutesy, but the problem for me is my dog is hypersensitive to these dings and goes into a mini panic attack whenever they come up. He starts shaking and panting uncontrollably. It's why I had to stop viewing other channels who like to do this as well (i.e. Cinemasins). I was really enjoying your reaction aside from that but if this is something you use on a regular basis I can't subscribe to your channel. Anyway, I just wanted to point this out because I can't be the only one who has this issue. But just to show I'm not trying to be critical, I gave your video a thumbs up, because like I said, I was enjoying your reaction otherwise.
I think the first one was better. I say that because it annoyed me after watching half the movie it went back to the beginning and told the story again, but with a little more info. seemed like lazy writing too me.
Fully respect that. I agree it's technically bad writing, and understandably a sticking point for a lot of people. It did bug me, but I found I enjoyed the movie regardless, because of the performances, and the great comedy beats. I had a professor in film school say that just because a movie is bad, doesn't mean you have to hate it, and while there are some bad movies I really do hate, I personally really liked this one. Just me though! 😊
