I'm totally loving your toggle system...it's so quick and easy to set-up. It's comparable to the simplicity of the Kephart Spear point knife. In that, it's a design that's been around for Hundreds of years. And it works with out fail. If it ain't broke, don't fix kinda mentality. That what I like...

I've got a duality of consciousness - I want to use my gear like our brave men and women have done to protect our country - when the higher quality(cost)/lower durability of the upscale items in the civi world may fail. You never fail to have that content. To have already gone out and done what I'm dreaming up - like using my poncho as a tarp, a hammock, a tent. Thank you for your service.

Thank you, sir, for this great instructional video. Having the military poncho, the woobie and the reflective blanket provides us so much versatility. My loadout always includes these three valuable pieces of gear.

Awwww, the basic training bivouac. I remember the shelter half we had to lug. Setting up in the deep forest woods of Ft Leonardwood. In hellish rain. After basic training ..went on to do that a bunch of times for Ranger Training.
When you are making a truckers hitch you can make it easier on yourself by passing the line through the loop 2x before you start to pull to tension the rope. Great video!

wilderness innovations makes a nice poncho that has channelled ends, so it can be a hammock. or a chair very easily.

Great idea and always practice safety
never underestimate the many uses of the military poncho . it keeps you dry , makes a tent , sun blocker, a cover for shooting from concealment, a mat to lay on keeping you dry and mud free, and now it's a quick hammock , and quick take down . in shtf you will need mobility without leaving a footprint so others won't know you are/were in that area . great video.
Excellent instructional video. 45 years ago, I carried 2 ponchos(they were od in those days). We were taught a few ways to use them as shelters but, if you were on guard, you took down your shelter or got wet. The extra poncho made life in the field alot more comfortable. The ponchos also became improvised stretchers using 2 - 10' long bambo poles. Sometimes, we could scrounge up a jungle hammock but some of the officers would confiscate them(the Bn XO usually). A couple of years later when I made 2LT, I just slept in the back seat of my jeep. BTW those ponchos shed part of their rubber layer so I just keep them for sentimental reasons.
We had a number of tricks to better our chances and comfort. One I remember, was to squeeze a dressing and a C rat accessory pack into the first aid pouch. If you could get an extra pouch you put a bandage and C rat pack into it. The little pouch on the side of the canteen got the halizone tablets and a p-38.

Thanks for this, I usually use a Wilderness Innovation poncho that is wonderful, and is already designed to be used as a hammock, but it is always good to know how to use a normal (military) poncho in the case of an emergency.

I know it’s 2 years later but I have to thank you. I’m doing some out of state training missions with the army and I left my hammock back in base and I did not want to buy another one but I do have my poncho and it really does work with 550 cord. Thank you so much!

Your videos are sooo clean in production...and great content...you have convinced me to do the speed ridge line set up....I have a list that I made called presence of mind and it has to do with putting your brain into function right at a SHTF situation of any degree....it could be just as lost in urban or wild conditions and one or the items is can you make a quick camp...which I think from location to shelter to fire spot you want 90 minutes...beat the weather or threat situation. That is “smothin’it” like unreal, and I bet you could now throw that set up against the clock in 15 minutes easy (15 on fire pit spot 15 on wood collection 10min. Fire build....if possible then....eat.).... great vid...Dave C is the man. His advice and showing not only how, but what you really just don’t want to be without in a load out....boy, has he not evolved into his ancestor....for our benefit....Great human....
