I bought a Talon brand new in 93. Still have it today. Best car I've ever owned. She was unbelievable in her day, would go through corners like she was on rails, and pull away effortlessly.

I bought a brand New Eagle Talon TSI AWD in 1989 when I was 20 years old... cost me around $13,000.... Man I loved that car.
I used to race it all the time down Gratiot Avenue in Detroit.
I only raced zero to the speed limit as the bigger engines would have easily beaten me from a rolling race.
The only "normal" cars I remember losing to were Grand Nationals, a few slightly modded Monte Carlo SS's, a few Vettes and one Formula 350 converted into a manual.
Manuals were actually faster cars than Autos back then, and MUCH preferred....
The Eagle Talon I bought was a special model. It was a one-of-a-kind signature black and Gold SCCA pace car... it was awesome and very quick for the time...
I beat that car to the ground during races, we went so hard people used to light cigarettes off my red hot brake rotors...
I wish I still had it, all that's left are a few faded polaroids and stories nobody cares about... sigh...

Dude this is awesome. When I was a kid my dad worked at a Jeep/Eagle dealership and brought home a red Talon tsi AWD 5 speed. The acceleration in that car and the feeling you get in your stomach from it absolutely blew me away. Made me want to go to school and become something so I could afford my own sports cars. So now my brother and I are both doctors and we own/owned many Porsches, BMW's, Mercs, a Ferrari 360, a Viper SRT-10, Bentley GT, R35 GTR, plus many other cars all because of that Talon experience.

My short list in late 1990 was a red loaded Eagle Talon TSi and a red Stealth R/T NA. I went with the Stealth R/T. I was afraid of the turbo longevity, but it was ball during the test drives. He ran a 13.9 I think it was ( almost 2 car length ahead of me ) The announcer thought my car was a new Vette and he said the Talon just beat a Vette. My 95 Vette ( auto) ran a 13.8 completely stock, so glad I didn't race it.

This was my very first car. White with white rims and a light gray interior. I had so much fun with that thing . . . but can attest that brake fade was HUGE after just a bit of spirited driving and the power-steering rack had a hard time keeping up with repeated quick turns, so the wheel would get light, heavy, light, heavy, during rapid esses. But, overall, it served me well for almost TEN years.

    • @mitsubishikid1187
      @mitsubishikid1187 6 ปีที่แล้ว

I installed the popular front 2 piston big brake upgrade on my "90 talon, they can be sourced from the non turbo mitsu 3000gt/non turbo dodge stealth models, as well as the mitsu diamante, and some later "93-"94 talons/eclipses/lasers actually from the factory used the bigger 2 piston brake setup [on the awd models only], it was a great upgrade for the money with noticeable gains in stopping power for my early 90 car, they do still fade a small amount but it's a lot better then the single piston units and stopping power is greatly improved with them.

Same here, the white on white Talon was amazing looking. Took it apart to replace all the speakers and run a huge power cable to the trunk for a 4 x 10" woofer box. Had it until the family grew too large to seat everyone. Really miss that car. Got a black one later, but my heart was always with the first one. I still have a permanent eBay search, just in case a white on white Talon in decent shape ever comes available...

It's really all relative. The ~$16K is about $42K today (and your comment is from four years ago, before the roughly 50% increase in average transaction price). Decent cars can be had for that. Mind you, there is a dearth of anything that is not an SUV - because hatchbacks and wagons don't do the same exact thing. 😏

Great car. I had the chance to drive one brand new working at a dealership. For its day, it had a lot of power and handling. That car stood out as a real performance car in 1990.

As a teen I remember these cars being ultra cool. Now when you see them they're all ragged out to hell with cigarette burns all over the cloth seats, not that you'd notice from all the stains everywhere.

It's a 6 bolt. You're thinking of the massively blown out of proportion early 7 bolt 4Gs that 3% or less had issues with thrust bearing failure. Funny story the older BMWs, and Supra MKIV had worse problems with thrust bearing failure than 4G63s but you never hear that.

Still have my 1991 Talon Tsi AWD. Owned it for 21 years. I'm never getting rid of it. After the original fast and furious movie came out, everyone wanted to race me. That didn't last long, as ppl realized this car hauled ass. I can't even start telling you how many other cars I handed their asses to on a silver platter. Now, what I find hilarious up here in Canada, is anyone under 30 has no idea what the car even is! Had a few teens think it was a Sylvia! I think it's about time for a frame off resto, and bump the HP up to 700-800hp from the 350 it's now at.
